Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume 1.....Help!

I need everyone's help on this topic, but I'm having a very difficult time trying to obtain a copy of MICKEY MOUSE IN LIVING COLOR VOL.1 with no such luck.I have searched ebay and some people are asking outrageous prices and I have heard that some of the treasures are possible bootleg verisons and not the real thing.A friend of mine has suggested to try cosco(is that the name?) but I have all the volume sets except MMILC Vol.1 and I don't want to buy the whole set just for that Mickey collection.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can end my search?

There are no way you are going to get this at an "good" price.

When this box was released it was almost sold out before it hit the stores so this is a real collectors item.

If you are at Ebay, and you find boxes with the original Tin box, then it can't bee a bootleg since that would be to expencive to make for the bootlegers.

But you will not find it any cheaper then atleast $50

You might want to try and look in stores where they sell DVD's but it isn't common for people to buy rare dvd's there. I am talking about places like Barnes and Nobles, possibly Borders et cetera. I am not sure what store you have around your location, but I found this set around March last year at my Barnes and Nobles alongside two other tins. This past weekend, of of the two (which I didn't buy) were still there.

So you might want to search at random stores, or have them check their databases to see if any store nearby has what you're looking for.

There is always the complete set at Costco if you dont care about the tins.

If you have a multi-region player, they are coming out in Europe/UK/Australia in May (ish).

Mickey in Color was the last of the Treasures that I found. I just drove around to every different store I could think of that sold DVD's, used and new, and had almost given up hope at finding it. Luckily, I did find it, and paid around $35 for it. That was well over a year ago, February or so of last year. If you have patience you can just keep checking out used DVD stores, or stores that seem to have hard to find titles, or just be prepared to pay out the nose for it on eBay. With it being so long since it's been released, I'd say your chances of finding it for a decent price are, unfortunately, slim if not non-existent.

You could try to get a South American copy. They are being released now, and they are probably in NTSC if that's what you prefer. The European and Australian versions are in PAL.

Correct me if I am wrong Andres but I thought the Treasures were only on DVD. NTSC/PAL are not references usually associated with DVDs that I have heard. Thought they were replaced by the Region codes.

You're both right and wrong. In the strictest sense, DVDs are neither PAL nor NTSC, since that only refers to the color system. The color system is created by the player, and is never stored on disc.

However, there are other differences between different TV-systems around the world, such as the number of scan lines and frames per second.

In lack of better words, PAL and NTSC is commonly used to describe discs for different TV-systems that are loosely connected with PAL and NTSC. A more appropriate description would mean going into technical details that would be much harder for people to understand.

And on top of that there are of course the region codes...

Nelson, have you checked Half.com? Someone is selling an authentic copy WITH the tin for $50. That's the cheapest it's been since they sold out. Any of the cheaper ones listed there do not have the tin, and hence have a very high likelyhood of being either pirated or non-US region. Yes they are. Because with VHS and laserdisc, the color signal (PAL or NTSC) is actually recorded on the tape or disc.

On DVD, the color is recorded digitally as MPEG data, and the PAL or NTSC signal is created by the player, but only if your TV/projector is connected to the player by composite video or S-video. If you connect your TV or projector by RGB or component video, then there is no PAL or NTSC involved at all.

But even though there's in theory no PAL or NTSC on DVD discs, it's convenient to refer to discs as such because of other differences in the TV systems (frame rate and number of scan lines). With a slightly relaxed definition of PAL and NTSC, you may want to include those parameters in the specification.

Nelson, I thought I read somewhere that they will eventually be re-releasing these Treasure sets, although the packaging may be different, so if you strike out everywhere, as painful as it may be, you might want to wait rather than spend as much as you'd spend on all 4 of next month's Treasures.

According to DVDAngle.com the Treasures are all going to be rereleased individually. They wrote a scathing editorial about studios double and more dipping for DVDs. The first dip was the tins, the second was the complete set and the third is selling them individually without tins.

The award for worst though went to Kill Bill which is scheduled to be released six different times with different packaging and extras before Christmas.

Of course a bunch of us got sucked in by the first Lord of the Rings. It was a special enough movie that I did repurchase it.

But there are others like A League of their Own where I bought the DVD a couple of months ago then a remastered special edition came out a couple of weeks ago. Arrrrgh.

Andres - thank you for the explanation. I now see that many, although not all of my DVDs have an NTSC designation that I had never noticed before.

Nelson - the article did not say, the point of the article was the practice of double dipping for sales. The article did say the content of the Treasures is not limited - Disney has and will again reissue the content.

This was from an April 16 editorial. Given this I would hold off. Who knows we might see some rereleased stuff with the May 18 treasures.
My local Costco said they could purchase the set of seven treasures any time they wanted, it was not a one time deal, so I would expect to see these in circulation.

WOW!!! 6 Kill Bill editions in 3/4 of a year? No way, there's just no way! Can that really be a good idea for them? I think 3 would be pushing it. People aren't going to rebuy more than 2, and a lot of people will just hold out for the latter editions... and they'll ALL hold out when Kill Bill vol. 2 rolls out on DVD (well, not all, but a lot).

I hate not having the best release, but you just never know what DVD is going to be rereleased 2 months after you buy it. Generally, the only one this happens to is the one you buy, regardless of what it is.

Eh, that's life.

I like the Treasures rerelease rumors. Of course, I'll have to wait and see how they are handled. I really want the tins, but if it saves me at least $20 (probably more) on each set to not have them, I'll just deal without.
