Is it worth to buy or should I rent it?

Any comments please respone. :D
I saw it in theaters and overall thought it was only "ok." The visuals are really cool, and the fact that it's kind of part of WDW brought to life makes it worth watching. I'm not an Eddie Murphey fan (well, that's an understatement, I don't like him at all), so that probably made me like it a little less. I'd say it is definitely worth renting. As for making a purchase? I will be, just to have it in the collection, and I think it will be fun to watch just before going to WDW (along with POTC), but you might want to see it before making that decision for yourself.

I was planning on getting Haunted Mansion on DVD this Tuesday as soon as I can find the closest, and cheapest place to buy it. I'm hoping that Blockbuster will do the DVD trade in for Haunted Mansion.

I wouldn't recommend a blind buy. I like Eddie Murphy especially his early stuff. This is not in the class of even his recent Nutty Professor, Dr. Dolittle. It's closer to Nutty Professor 2, Dr. Dolittle 2 & Daddy Day Care. It's a mediocre comedy that is very forgettable. Possibly worth a rental though I'd recommend waiting for it to hit cable. My .02

I agree with Buffalo Bill. In my opinion this movie is nothing special. It's one of the only movies I've ever seen that I felt was a waste of my time. The acting's okay. The visuals are good. But everything else just plain sucked. It may be a good rental on a boring, stormy Saturday night, but I certainly don't recommend a blind buy.

I also agree that this is not a film that you should buy without seeing it. It gets very mixed feelings from the audience. I personally liked it, but I know a lot of people who didn't. However, if you have ridden the ride, there will at least be the thrill of finding all of the refences to it in the film. Anyway, it is worth a rental fee for any Disney fan, but watch it before you buy it, or you will probably hate it if it dosen't live up to your standards.

Goofystitch - thank you very much for your honest appraisal.

I am an Eddie Murphy fan when he is on(about half the time) and the ride is among my wife and mine favorite.

I think I am going to get it. But it really is too bad they dont have anything on the ride. That was one of the best parts of the Pirates DVD. You are right.

'Haunted Mansion' DVD - bilingual cover?

Post by nilito »

Hi,
I'm sorta new here. I registered some time ago, but always forget that there's a message board here too. Anyway, I live in Quebec, Canada. One of the things that Disney DVD has been doing for several years now (as some of you may or may not know) is releasing bilingual covers on their DVDs in Canada - I hate it. I have been ordering from Amazon.com (in the U.S) since. It's more expensive, but hey. Now, I'm worried. I've been seeing (from several U.S. sources) that the 'Haunted Mansion' DVD is only being made as a bilingual. Does anyone know this to be a fact? Please help. Has anyone seen the DVD cover for themselves to confirm this? Thanks.

I don't know where you live in Quebec, but in Montreal there are usually a few places that sell the DVDs with the English cover only. Sometimes I have to look hard, but they're around.

Amazon just has the Canadian cover on their website for reasons unknown. The US DVD that they ship is without that circle on the cover.

Buy without hesitation! :D

Are you guys sure? I hate that damned 'version francais incluse' little yellow circle crap!!
rodneyf: where in Montreal do they have all-english covers. I am from Montreal. However, all I see is either fully-bilingual covers or the all-english ones with the stupid little yellow 'version francais' thing on it. You know, it wouldn't be so bad if they kept doing them like they did with 'The Fox and the Hound' (where the 'version francais incluse' thing was a green sticker on the wrapper!!) - instead, I'm paying something like $45CDN per DVD!!!

If you use the DVDSoon website, you not only get free shipping (I'm their biggest advocate at the moment) and Canadian prices, they mark all of the bilingual covers with a (v.f) suffix. In most cases, there are 2 versions available for each item.

e.g.
Haunted Mansion, The (2003) PG $ 26.98
Haunted Mansion, The (v.f) (2003) PG $ 26.98

Hope that helps.

Looks to me like a Rental copy may have slipped in by accident.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Haunted Mansion Blu-ray Question

Post by Flanger-Hanger »

The DVD's running time for the movie is 88 minutes but a Blu-ray review I read said it was 99 minutes (which is what IMDB, and several reviews said the film's correct running time was). Anyway, is the Blu-ray really 11 minutes longer? Is this just a typo? Or, if it's true, what's different?
