What Movie Did You Just Watch? - Shh! It's Starting!

Post by zackisthewalrus »

I get to start a new mega-thread! Yaaaaaaay!

Volume 7

Sorry for not continuing the Batman references. I don't really know many. Haha.

Finding Nemo - Best of the best.

Edit: To the people below me, sorry! I tried to add "...and Robin" or even just "And Robin," but there's not enough space left.

You can always add "...and Robin" to the thread title!

Anyway, right now National Treasure: Book of Secrets is on Encore Drama, but I'm not really paying attention to it. But it counts, I guess.

Add the "Robin" part, please. We're almost completed with the Batman references! :P

Last night I watched Untamed Heart. I had seen parts of it a couple times on TV before, and always liked seeing it, so I rented it and watched it all! It was really good.

Hairspray (2007) - We had our new home theater installed yesterday, and this was my first choice for a movie. I don't really know why, but it was. Haha

For future Bat-film reference, the next few volumes should be titled....

What Movie Did You Just Watch?.... And Robin!
What Movie Did You Just Watch? Begins
The Dark Movie You Just Watched

Just so ya know. :P I saw Up In The Air yesterday. I don't have time to post a review, or even a mini-review, but it's definitely worth seeing, a 10/10 or a solid A. Best film of the year for me.

Tuesday night, I watched District 9. I was really surprised how good it was. Probably my third favorite movie of the year (Next to Up and Star Trek).

8/10

Last night, I watched The Muppet Christmas Carol, which was really the first time I saw it since it first came out in theatres. I thought it was pretty good, but I could've done without some of the songs.

Just because I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I'm gonna correct you. This version of "Grinch" was released in '66, not '64. That's all. Haha.

This Is It was really engaging, Michael knew excatly how he wanted to please/surprise his audience. The man was a genius when it came to performing for his fans and durning the film he was open to suggestions other then his own. I loved the lil tribute he made to Jackson 5 by including a few of their songs.

I'd recommend this film for anybody who wants a good concert film.

The Princess and the Frog

The movie was tremendous, but my viewing experience was terrible. To keep a long story short I'll simply leave the following piece of advice:

If your kids can't stay quiet and sit still for an hour and a half, DON'T bring them to a movie theatre.

Last night we watched Elf, A Muppet Family Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street (the 1947(?) version). A wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve!

Monsters Inc. - Some of the best surround sound material I've heard. A good film also. Not nearly my favorite from Pixar, but still great!

The Polar Express - Not as good as I remembered, which kinda saddened me. It was still pretty good. The train arriving at the boy's house shook me and my sister in our home theater. Haha.

A Christmas Story - An excellent Christmas film. Does anymore need to be said.

Meet the Robinsons-Not as good as I remember. Maybe I just can't stand Lewis' voice. Or maybe Bowler Hat Guy is really annoying. It is pretty heartwarming though, and a great family movie.

6/10

A Charlie Brown Christmas- This probably doesn't count, but I just LOVE this special. It's so simple, yet awesome. My only regret is that it could go longer...

I finally decided to check this out, morbid curiosity being the only logical excuse as to why. When I got the chance to see it earlier this week, I felt the dread well up inside me like a heavy wave. I have such a low tolerance for stupidity and gross-out movies. So, I thought I would just watch the first 20 or so minutes, until it got really gross- then I'd bail. But, shockingly, this movie turned out to be nothing I couldn't handle. I even decided to eat some pasta while it was playing. There's lot of very immature gags, naturally - since all the characters have a yucky bodily fluid or freakishly unattractive physical trait attributed to them. And you just knew the #1 most used of these would be Windy Winston's farting. I actually thought they were going to really milk Valerie Vomit's 'talent'... but she only lets loose once during the film (that I counted). And... that's enough about that (since it's still in poor taste). What really kills this movie (which starts out pretty well, other than the fact that the little kid is chased by bullies twice his age - the second most unbelievable bully-to-kid dynamic since Shrunken Heads) is the fairly cliched and dumb plot. They do a pretty good job of keeping us thinking that Tangerine is really a good person underneath, but the morality play at the end is really lame. I think it's quite astounding that I personally found the most irritating thing that happens in this movie the dialogue scene about the "Kids" eating "everything!!" around a street fire. If I can handle this, you can too.

An oddity from my childhood that I decided to revisit - with the same basic result as my revisiting of Transylvania Twist 5 years ago... disappointment. The thing that really bothers me about this Gremlins rip-off is that- not only do the "Munchies" talk, but they talk like idiots. Sort of like perverted, mini-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, only dressed like the bounty hunters from the Critters series. Thankfully the lead male is a lot less obnoxious than Transylvania's wise-cracking stand-up wannabe (here, the lead male actually aspires to be a comedian). This movie however makes no use of any of its' potential. Especially- having the creatures multiply by chopping pieces off of them (where's any blood??), and scenes set at a garish miniature golf course, a video rental place (my job), a fast-food joint, and a roadside ice cream shoppe. Very reminiscent of Joe Dante's early horror pics Piranha and The Howling (Robert Picardo shows up here in a cameo) and Gremlins and Critters (Nadine Van Der Velde, the daughter April, even shows up here as the main guy's girlfriend). It's Cliche City - I counted references to at least 5 other horror movies, yet I suspect the filmmakers truly were unaware of where they'd seen them before. And nowhere near as fun as it should be. The Carol Burnett Show's Harvey Korman (R.I.P.) shows up in a dual role as twin brothers and gives a comic performance somewhat secondary to the woman playing his prissy wife, who is almost a hoot.

Home Alone, minus the first half-hour, but I've seen it before, so it didn't matter. Always a fun holiday movie! Wait, actually, I fell asleep before it ended, haha...I'm just remembering. I guess I fell asleep at the part where Kevin's family just was coming home, so I didn't miss much!
