Hmmmm... I think I've seen something like that once. Or maybe not.Escapay wrote:I wouldn't mind seeing a sitcom called "The Big Band Theory" actually. It can be about a trumpet player and a percussionist who live together and compete for the affections of the conductor's daughter.

I don't think that's on my card...my card has a rollie pollie guy in a british like blue coat and is dresser really fancy and is bald and is holding a cup of what looks to be beer and the guy's eyes are like very popped out and he is smiling and a cat is rubbing against his leg and he's in a roomSky Syndrome wrote:Thank you very much for the card, Luke. For anyone curious, it shows a illustration from the book A Christmas Carol of Scrooge being brought the big turkey by a man and the little boy he asked to buy it for him.
and the back of the card says Mr. Pickwick proposes a Toast....

Apparently Mr. Pickwick is a character from Charles Dickens' first book called The Pickwick Papers. There's a musical play written about him called Mr. Pickwick's Christmas, but it seems to be a mix of both A Christmas Carol and events from the Pickwick Papers (Google's not really giving much more than that). Apparently Charles Dickens had nothing to do with this, so it's weird that a Christmas card company would lump illustrations of that show together with ones from A Christmas Carol.
I lucked out and got an iconic one from A Christmas Carol: Bob Cratchit walking down the street with Tiny Tim on his shoulder.
I'm not so lucky when it comes to Secret Santa presents, though. Not only have I not gotten mine, yet, but it looks like my Cindy Lou Who hasn't, either, and I sent that thing over a week ago. Why does the post office hate me?

Thanks for looking up the backstory of the card...it's always neat to hear about stories that some people have forgot about such as in my card pickwick.....thankss for doing that..Disneykid wrote:Apparently Mr. Pickwick is a character from Charles Dickens' first book called The Pickwick Papers. We were joking about how me, reyquila and Disneykid haven't received our presents due to the USPS somehow hating us and thus taking longer than usualdisneyboy20022 wrote:btw what's this talk of a its a bad year to be Puertorican?
We'll make it through, though, so don't worry too much about us
And great to know another fellow Puertorican, Disneykid!
FELIZ, FELIZ NAVIDAD!
Glad to see that many people have gotten the cards. The Dickens ones come not just A Christmas Carol, but from a variety of his works including The Pickwick Papers. Meanwhile, if you're wondering which Dickens story involved little furry creatures dancing around a Christmas tree, know that you actually got a Dickens-free card. Entirely different but no less special.
I share the uneasiness of those still waiting gifts. Eight to go and just four pre-Christmas mail days. I have a feeling that a lot of them will show up on Monday and the rest in the final few days. Postmen and postwomen of the world, don't let us down!

Oh and I am hoping for a Christmas miracle. Lord knows us Puertoricans seriously need it...

Great. The first Christmas party I was to have with my support group today was canceled because of the darn snow storm that blew up from the southern states. The drive would have taken an hour and a half. I wasn't invited to any other Christmas party and the last time I went to one was 2005. The gift coming my way will certainly be a pick-me-up. Darn you, Jack Frost.

Here's a video of Foamy typing a letter to Santa.

Disneykid, however, was mentioning how Puerto Rico is going through one of the worst economic recessions and social distress in history due to poor decisions made by the current government.
some might say that's the same thing the 50 states are going through too at the moment

Pickwick Papers also features fairly prominently in Little Women, but maybe I'm just showing my nerdy side.
Anyway, Gus, I wanted to make sure you knew I received your card in the mail. Thanks for it!!! Personal touches are always nice!
Here's hoping all the rest of you receive your gifts sooner than later. I'll have my fingers crossed for you.

While I'm a bit uneasy that my gift to another has yet to get there my father woke me up around two hours ago with a package that he said was on the front step.
This package was from California and since some unforeseen goings on have stifled the possibility of me going to school there (for now....) there was no other reason I could see that I'd get a Californian package than Secret Santa!
Inside the package was a lovely home made card from Joe AKA magicalwands who had drawn a Disneyland style Castle in the clouds a wreath and Mickey as well as making a clip art piece of Jiminy Cricket into a pop up! He explained his original intentions for the extra things of the package and wished me a merry Christmas. There was also an extra note saying how things changed in prep for the package. The gift items were a Large plastic Disneyland shopping bag, the most current and Christmas-sy of the Disneyland and DCA park maps, and The Disney Theme Park Edition Trouble Game featuring Stitch!
Funnily enough I got the normal edition of Trouble for my 27 year old sister who (although she has yet to get her copy) said she was also going to get the normal version for me too.
We do love it a lot! We already played it this morning.....she won.
Thank you so very VERY much Joe for the lovely gifts, good luck at CalArts and very Merry Christmas to you!
