The Princess and the Frog Discussion - Part III

Goliath, have you forgotten there can be more than one type of pompous person? Don't you know, say, many obnoxious people in your life, or dreaming people in your life, and yet, of course, they are all different?

And you'll have to prove they actually traced animation from other films, because unless they are exactly, exactly copied, like the dance taken from Sleeping Beauty used in Beauty and the Beast, you can't say they are, and even then, who is to say they didn't slightly, slightly change little things in that dance? When animating something, artists can't help but put their own creativity to it. It doesn't matter. Sometimes differences between things are tiny, but they are still unique. We need to all relate to each other...

Well, I do recall in a sneak peek clip Mama Odie pulling her wand out of thin air, just like the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella did.

Just saw Anika Noni Rose's interview on "The View". They showed a clip of 'Almost There' , and Anika says she's still incredibly moved (and appeared quite emotional) talking about her role as Disney's first black princess. A fantastic interview; glad I managed to tape it!

Disney Jedi, that scene was not in the film (trust me, Cinderella's my favorite). She didn't even have a wand.

I want to know where that scene and the scene of Tiana transforming into the frog (in view of her body transforming) went! They had time to animate these scenes that never made it in, but not animate a few certain scenes a little better? Don't worry folks, as I said it was just amount of frames and static movement issues...

Is that some sort of sarcasm about the fairy godmother's wand? Mama Odie makes her magic stick appear the EXACT same way the fairy godmother did in Cinderella. Its in the "dig a little deeper" song

Are you saying that the fairy godmother from Cinderella doesn't have a wand or am I totally reading this the wrong way . . .



. . . in that mama Odie's scene doesn't match up with the way the fairy godmother pulls it out of thin air (a scene I remember from Cinderella but couldn't find a screencap of).

I think I've seen the scene or heard about Mama Odie's Wand....its more of a stick or a can in disguise of a wand from what I saw in a commerical...and she whips it out I think fast out of her pocket and gets it fast when saying....not bad for a 92 year old blind lady.....and maybe its in Dig a Little deeper...and she does have a wand...she was hitting Louis with it in the trailer turning him into everything from a goat a pig or a cow i I remember correctly from the trailer...

anyway I am going to see it tomorrow with my family....it's been years since we all went to see a Disney Film in theaters....

I just saw a midnight screening in New Orleans, my hometown, and really enjoyed it. Here are some of my thoughts about the film:

It was GREAT to see a traditionally animated Disney feature again, after the medium had been written off for dead by Disney just a few years ago!

And not just an animated film, but an animated MUSICAL in which the characters sing! I was one of the people who initially felt disapointed when Alan Menken was not included in the project, but I have to give props to Randy Newman for a catchy set of songs that worked well with the story and are also very authentic to the styles of music that most people associate with New Orleans and Louisiana music. Jazz, zydeco, and gospel are all represented. I was particularly fond of the jazz-flavored songs.

Despite recent problems faced by New Orleans (Katrina, etc.), seeing this movie made me proud to be from New Orleans. After all, how many cities can say they are the setting of both a Disney Animated Classic AND a "land" in a Disney theme park? (New Orleans Square at Disneyland)

I was impressed at the layers of details and effort the filmmakers put into capturing the look and feel of the city. The architecture was very authentic, ranging from the French Quarter, Uptown, Ninth Ward-style "shotgun" housing, the Riverfront, etc. I also enjoyed seeing the streetcars, riverboats, St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Mardi Gras, etc.

The film was very funny but also had a lot of heart, especially towards the end. As others have said, there were some unexpected twists. Spoiler alert: The only thing I didn't like was that they killed off Ray, one of the cute and endearing sidekicks, just before the end of the film, which I wasn't expecting in a DAC. But at least even this was presented in a hopeful way which strongly suggested his soul transcended death.

Oh, and IMO Disney Duster and Prince Phillip Fan are right on the money regarding the character development of Tiana and Naveen. I thought it was very refreshing that Tiana's main motivation was to fufill her father's dream. A very different angle for a "princess film".

All in all, this was a very enjoyable film that I enjoyed very much and will see again before it leaves theatres!

The only things perhaps I was tired because I saw it at 12...

The film truly lacked a standout "song" - and I don't know if I was just tired but the pacing seemed really off O_o

I'm pretty sure that was animated just for the commercials, to show Tiana transform really quickly. There's also animation at the end of some of the commercials with Tiana in her green dress also.

Tiana is at Charlotte's costume party. Tiana was originally wearing a simple peasant costume, but after an incident her dress is ruined. So Charlotte lets her borrow one of her princess dress. It's the dress that convinces Naveen that she is, in fact, a princess

And that's unfortunate about your father. Still, you can go alone...

She got the blue dress because her friend is a VERY spoiled southern belle, but she's a good friend to Tiana. She was working a party for Tiana when she gets her dress dirty, and she's allowed to wear one of the many gowns that she owns. (Tiana's mom actually was a seemstress who made the dresses for her)

I find it so depressing to hear of people that are racist....it serves no good and usually is just a heartless emotion that usually does nothing but spread hard and rude feelings torwards others....thats why I don't get why anyone would be racist torwards anyone of any color.....If people really want world peace Racism is one the first things at the top of feelings that needs to go
