I have two copies of Little Mermaid both of which were brought from the high street in the uk.. one has the hologram with inlay booklet/sheet & the other has niether.. other than that they are identical including print quality on the discs !
I know what the far eastern copies look like.. and this is not one of them.
Is/was there an obvious mistake with certain batches of Little Mermaid or am I in posession of a very, very good copy ?

That's an interesting question.
My suggestion is that you should check the region number(s) and copy protection status of the disc.
If that looks ok, my guess is that it's genuine. They might have replaced a worn or damaged cover with a display dummy. (Shops sometimes get empty cases for display purposes. Since they aren't meant to be sold, they come without the hologram and chapter insert.)

The early European releases were distributed by Warner Bros, and I believe the initial batch didn't have the Buena Vista hologram.

Possibly. But The Little Mermaid was in fact one of the last few titles distributed by Warner before Buena Vista took over. So I doubt that any problems with early releases would apply in this case.2099net wrote:The early European releases were distributed by Warner Bros, and I believe the initial batch didn't have the Buena Vista hologram.

Hologram
I have a copy of Lady & The Tramp without the hologram.papa_flump wrote:I have re checked the disc & cases .... both are identical... down to the barcode etc.. they are also both Warner distribution editions...
as I said earlier the only difference is the missing hologram & booklet !!
Released by Warner Home Video
It has the insert inside and the disc is dual layer with copy protection on.
Early releases of Disney DVD's were minus the hologram

Interesting.... my copy of Lady & the Tramp does have the hologram!!!
the region coding etc are identical of both discs....
my best guess is that of an earlier poster on the subject... shop display case... however these seemed to be mainly photocopies etc.. andwhy waste money printing such a case without the hologram... surely it would be just as cheap to use original cases.... (in the volume Disney use)

Didn't Shop display cases have "SAMPLE FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY" printed across the back. My disc was sealed in polythene, but I got a little concerned when everyone was going on about the hologram. So I decided to open it and it is a genuine disc with the green "U" logo on.papa_flump wrote:Interesting.... my copy of Lady & the Tramp does have the hologram!!!
