I think what we are all saying is that these treasures are kinda MADE for the disney fans...and many of us have collected them over the years. The thing is it looks like it was just a mistake made when creating the dvd's and we would like it fixed. It's the idea that these are the complete collections of cartoon shorts which should be...complete. It's being able to say YES I have all of the donald shorts...volume 4 was completing Donald and now we are kinda frazzled that there is a mistake in one. That's it...so how do we fix this? send an email...letter...who has the contact info?

That short was originally in 3D. I guess it depends what sort of print they used for the process to turn it into a standard 2D version. I too noticed it looked a bit pale, I have the "Staring Chip n Dale" DVD as well, so I'm gonna run them side by side to compare. Maybe they used a different source for the Treasure DVD instead?Barbossa wrote:Has anybody noticed the colour is a bit off in "Working for Peanuts"? It seems to be more pale than it should be.

And as you said, it is NOT generally available to the public. For that matter neither is "Song of the South", but I have a prestine two-disc release that will do until the 'real' thing comes along. Same for "So Dear To My Heart".

And the quality is nothing short of a VHS tape that has been played over and over. Plus it isn't anamorphic widescreen like it should be.So Dear To My Heart was put on DVD a few months ago and is a Disney Movie Club Exclusive.

So Dear To My Heart was filmed in Widescreen? Are you sure? I could have sworn that 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea was the first live action Disney movie filmed in widescreen.
According to DVD Times, from the 1890's to the 1950's there was essentially only one aspect ratio, 1.33:1. There were unsuccessful experiments with wider frames, but I doubt the a Disney movie in 1948 was actually produced or even intended for cropping into a wider aspect ratio.

So Dear to My Heart should not be widescreen. It was released in 1949 and 1.33:1 is its correct academy ratio!dvdjunkie wrote:And the quality is nothing short of a VHS tape that has been played over and over. Plus it isn't anamorphic widescreen like it should be.
And besides the UK DVD has a gorgeously restored print, so surely they used the same for the R1?

As others have stated So Dear to My Heart should be 1.37:1 because it was an academy ratio film made before widescreen even existed. Plus judging from the screencaps it looks alot better than my VHS copy of the movie.dvdjunkie wrote:And the quality is nothing short of a VHS tape that has been played over and over. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I did a search and couldn't find anything that matched.
Just posting to let folks know that, according to GAC, there is a replacement disc available for Chronological Donald Volume 4 to fix the "Bee on Guard" truncation issue. The GAC thread is located here and the contact info can be found at the top of the thread.

donald duck cut short
I just checked mine and it is cut short! Also, 5 seconds is 5 seconds. Maybe there are certain bee organizations that object to the treatment of bees in such cartoons!

I just got off the phone with a most helpful young lady named 'Mickey' (how appropriate!) at the Disney help line, 1-800-723-4763. The return mailers are on the way to me for replacement of both the More Silly Symphonies discs and also for disc one of The Chronological Donald, Vol. 4 set. For anyone that was hesitant to call or like me, was not aware of any issues with these discs until very recently, give them a call, customer service will know exactly what you're talking about. Have the binder case for each set and the discs in front of you so the information they will ask for is readily available. The replacement discs are still available should you want them. Thanks to everyone in this thread who provided useful information and to the Disney CS Dept. for make this process so easy!

Mailed Disney yesterday with the numbers on the data side of the Donald disc and got a prompt reply. They wanted me to send a scan of the invoice and wanted the bar code number of the Donald, vol. 4 set.
I sent them a reply with the required information and within an hour or so I got another reply that the disc is on its way!
I live in The Netherlands, and they did not ask me (yet) to send the original disc back. Maybe a return slip or something is included with the disc, but on previous replacements I did (More Silly Symphonies and the True Life Adventures) I did not have to return the original discs. I also did not have to return an original defective disc (one disc of Elfego Baca was not playing correctly) that was replaced.
Great service by Disney US!! (The service of Buena Vista/Disney in The Netherlands is not this good unfortunately)

So, what's the deal here? Did they actually make replacement discs for the Bee On Guard problem?
Frankly, I understand and agree with those complaining about the missing bit, though I'm rather surprised and disappointed that people didn't find the out of sync audio on "Runaway Brain" to be a much bigger issue. That annoys the heck out of me anytime I try to watch it. I even replaced the disc back when I thought it was just mine that was screwy.
