We can always say this thread is for our favourite films from the decade of 2000-2009, then next year start a thread for our favourite films of the decade 2001-2010. Then a year later, our favourite films of the decade 2002 to 2011! Or, instead of going forward, let's pick some random ten-year period in the past! Now I wanna start a "What Were your Favorite Movies of the Decade 1983 to 1992?" Cause that's 10 years! A decade! :D

Okay, so I used those Wiki pages (thanks) to pick out some big faves from those years, in no particular order (and understand of course that I obviously didn't see all the movies for any of the years, just a bunch of them). Anyway, I then had to cut down the list A LOT. So, here are my top faves (though many more than 25), but even with those lists to go by, I'm sure I missed some or some maybe weren't written there. Sorry, but for franchises I think it'd be best for me to just say the franchise in some cases, like...

The Harry Potter films
The Spider-Man films
The Star Wars films
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The PIXAR films, except Cars, which I only liked
American Psycho
Best In Show
Chicken Run
Emperor's New Groove
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Trick 'r Treat
The X-Men films (Wolverine too)
Star Trek
Iron Man
Monster House
O Brother, Where Art Thou
The Patriot
Enchanted
The Pirates of the Caribbean films, especially the original
The Haunted Mansion
Batman Begins and The Dark Knight
Chronicles of Narnia
the Lord of the Rings Trilogy
King Kong
Scary Movie 1, 2, and 3
Shadow of the Vampire
Dawn of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Tigger Movie
Unbreakable
the Fantastic Four films
Fantasia 2000
Lilo and Stitch
Donnie Darko
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Joe Dirt
Josie and the Pussycats
The Producers
Phantom of the Opera
Mummy Returns
She Creature
Shrek 2
Dukes of Hazzard
Zoolander
Austin Powers in Gold Member
Mothman Prophecies
Resident Evil
Treasure Planet
Bad Santa
Down with Love
Elf
Incredible Hulk
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Looney Tunes Back in Action
Peter Pan
Tencious D and the Pick of Destiny
Hot Rod
Napoleon Dynamite
Nacho Libre
Anchorman
Ladykillers
Shaun of the Dead
Van Helsing
Zombieland
Constantine
National Treasure 1 and 2
Herbie: Fully Loaded
Sky High
40 yr Old Virgin
Just Friends
Moulin Rouge
The Ringer
Grandma's Boy
The Prestige
Borat
A Christmas Carol
Inglorious Basterds
Knocked Up
the Transformers movies
Fanboys
The Mist
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Sweeney Todd
Speed Racer
Step Brothers
Watchmen
Fido
And, yes, the Scooby and Garfield movies

I had much more intelligent sounding movies on my longer list, but as I focused on my very top faves, ha, well...

Can we really start the threads, Luke? :D

And if we do, should they be in Polls & Games or in Movies, Music, TV?

I've actually been working on an alphabetical list of 100 from the first ten years of '00s.
How? :o I was scrolling through the wikipedia pages for this decade and I was surprised to see how few good films there've been.

My top ten:

1. Transamerica ~ The only reason I gave this movie a shot was because of Felicity Huffman. I was so surprised I liked it this much. I have to admit that the transgendered have always made me a little uncomfortable (I don't think badly of them, just I feel weird around them, but this gave me a lot of empathy for people who go through those kinds of feelings. Also, Kevin Zeger and Fionnulla Flanagan give amazing performances alongside Huffman.
2. Nanny McPhee ~ To be honest, I liked this movie more than either Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Not to say it's the better-made movie, but there's a certain charm to it that I don't get from those other Magic nanny-type films. Emma Thompson, of course, played the best part, but I thought Angela Lansbury, Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie, and Thomas Sangster also did really great with their roles.
3. Stardust ~ I haven't read Stardust (though I would love to read it whenever I have the chance to buy it), but this movie turned out fantabulous. Throughout the whole movie, I think the actors could've easily made the film bad (Michelle Phiefer is one of those hit-and-miss actresses, and Robert de Niro's character was borderline), and yet they hit their roles perfectly. This movie just had a dark, sarcastic, magical feel to it that I loved.
4. Treasure Planet ~ So under-loved. Albeit having bad CGI integration, some annoying sidekicks, and annoying voice castings for some characters (Thompson's voice felt weird for Amelia; Martin Short's voice is grating; David Hyde Pierce, while a good actor, doesn't work very well just as a voice, imo), Jim makes the movie, and that's really all that needs to be said.
5. Moulin Rouge!
6. The Lord of the Rings series ~ I don't feel like wasting 3 spots for the same series. I'm so glad they got someone who could do this right--I don't think anyone else could or would have.
7. Hairspray ~ The music is excellent, which is the deciding factor for a musical (usually). While the story's rather fluffy, I think it works very well as-is (John Travolta is the best part of the whole movie for me  ).
8. 3:10 to Yuma ~ I was really surprised, again, that I liked this. Yes, it's a remake and, yes, it's a western, but Russel Crowe and Christian Bale keep what could have been an otherwise dull movie interesting.
9. Sweeney Todd ~ I hated this the first time I watched it. But around the 3rd time, I really liked it. Usually, I find Burton's style a little uncreative (he does the same monotone-for-boring v. color-for-happy in every movie), but I think it worked well here. I actually wonder if he would be good for something like Les Miserables. The music, while not the strongest in the world, actually worked very well. Depp and Carter do pretty good jobs, and Ed Sanders as Toby was a stand-out.
10. Spirited Away

The rest are some that I just enjoyed, but most are likely not in my all-time favorites list (some pretty good, some so-so). In no particular order:

Howl’s Moving Castle
Meet the Robinsons
Digimon: The Movie
The Road to El Dorado
The Tigger Movie
Titan A. E
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
Kung Fu Panda
The Phantom of the Opera
Artificial Intelligence
Rent
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
(Yeah, the costumes, script and I-guess-you-would-call-it-camera-work were really bad, but I thought the child actors did so good that it gives the movie a charm you wouldn't expect)
Madea’s Family Reunion
Disturbia
Mamma Mia!
The Dark Knight
X-2
Saved!
Diary of a Mad Black Woman
Beauty Shop
The Devil Wears Prada
Doubt
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Australia

Eh, 100 is only 10 per year. Even in bad years, it's not hard to find ten films you really like. Especially when you're nuts like me and have tried to see as much recent stuff as you can. But if I were to post the list here, you'd definitely see stuff that no publication would recognize in such a list (things like <i>Remember the Titans</i>, <i>The Emperor's New Groove</i>, and <i>Click</i>, for example). You also wouldn't see stuff that no publication would dare overlook in such a list.

I'm one of the few in the world who probably does (or at least gives it the benefit of the doubt). Usually the information I look up on it can be easily confirmed elsewhere, and I use it mainly as a "check here first, confirm elsewhere if it doesn't sound true." While the whole open-editing process does cause some fiction to be misconstrued as fact, it's also a matter of knowing yourself what you know/theorise to be true versus just blindly believing (or disbelieving) what wikipedia says.

With the "(Year) in Film", there's little reason to actually lie on that page ("Haha, I'm gonna change the release date of this movie from January 23 to January 30!"), so I'd trust what it says.

What Escapay said!

I know Wiki has it's inacuracies at times and those lists don't seem to always include limited release or foreign films (although I'm pretty sure there are other Wiki pages that cover those), but I mentioned the Wiki lists to try and be helpful to anyone looking for a list because I know how hard it is to remember what I've seen in a given year (vs another year, or some films may even slip my mind completely). I couldn't think of another list anywhere, so even if those list are only 99% accurate, I find them extremely helpful for remembering what I've seen in a given year.

I guess another source could be the year-end and weekly box office charts at boxofficemojo.com, except it would omit movies that didn't make the chart.
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney

I've been making lists and scrapping them for this list the past few days. I'm just going to make my list in the format that I used for the CD & TV show threads. There are so many movies that I haven't seen, though (but Netflix will help me catch up), so obviously I only could list films I've seen. And I'm just listing theatrical- TV and Direct to Video titles made my list super-long when I tried before.

In order, first favorite, then 2nd, then 3rd:

2000:
The Emperor's New Groove & Dinosaur (tie)
Remember the Titans
My Dog Skip
& How the Grinch Stole Christmas (tie)

2001:
Pearl Harbor
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
& Monsters, Inc. (tie)
Serendipity & The Princess Diaries & Save the Last Dance (tie)

2002:
Treasure Planet
Lilo & Stitch
A Walk to Remember

2003:
Brother Bear
Finding Nemo
Elf
& How to Deal (tie)

2004:
Home on the Range
The Incredibles
& The Notebook (tie)
Mean Girls & Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (tie)

2005:
Chicken Little
Ice Princess
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe
& Shopgirl (tie)

2006:
Cars
American Dreamz
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
& Click (tie)

2007:
Enchanted
Meet the Robinsons
Ratatouille

2008:
Wall-e & High School Musical 3: Senior Year & Bolt (tie)
Australia
Twilight

2009:
The Princess & the Frog
Up
Hannah Montana: The Movie
& New Moon (tie)

Here's my list of 25 favorite movies from the decade. (This doesn't mean I think they are necessarily the best; they're just my favorites.)

There are a few films that I haven't seen yet, which would otherwise be very likely to be on my list as well. These include Up, The Princess and the Frog and, most of all, Oliver Stone's South of the Border.

I tried to rank them, but I couldn't do it, so I'll list them chronologically:

Almost Famous (2000)
Requiem for a dream (2000)
Unbreakable (2000)
Pane e tulipani (2000) (Bread and Tulips)
High Fidelity (2000)
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
The hole (2001)
L’Auberge Espagnole (2002) (The Spanish Apartment)
Lilo & Stitch (2002)
Io non ho paura (2003) (I'm not scared)
Runaway Jury (2003)
Kill Bill, Vol. 1 (2003)
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
National Treasure (2004)
Moolaadé (2004)
A love song for Bobby Long (2004)
Bin-Jip (2005) (3 Iron)
The Girl in the Café (2005)
Sin City (2005)
No direction home (2005)
Volver (2006) (To return)
Blood diamond (2006)
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Ratatouille (2007)
I’m not there (2007)

Others that may be of better quality, but didn't make it to my top 25 of favorites:

Samaria (2004) (Samaritan Girl)
Hotel Rwanda (2004)
Der Untergang (2004) (Downfall)
Hwal (2005) (The Bow)
The last king of Scotland (2006)

Another way to check all films that came out a particular year (not just American films), is to check this section of IMDb:
