Y'know, being an 80's kid myself, I know how much this film is loved and adored, but I've always had an uncomfortable love/hate relationship with it.

Yes, it's a beautiful film but it's also highly disturbing and I still don't care to revisit it. The scene where the horse dies is horrifying. Maybe one day my opinions will change but I fear I'll always have negative memories about this movie.

I'm disappointed that there are no extras. Especially since the German DVD includes two versions of the film (the German Theatrical Cut and the International Theatrical Cut), a 43-minute documentary (in German) from 1984, Limahl's music video for the title song, an interactive 3D still gallery, and interactive game.

totally awesome, this is one of my favorite childhood favorites :P

I really like that cover art too, I wonder if they'll give it some good bonus features (not getting my hopes up though).
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I saw an announcement for this along with the original Clash of the Titans.

Don't really remember the movie that much.

I really, really, REALLY hate this movie. I was so glad when it defied its own title and ended.

Such a waste of all the room. Heck, the Region 1 DVD beats this Blu-Ray in bonus stuff by having a trailer and trivia on the book and characters. A movie's Blu-Ray should excel its former DVD in picture, audio, and heaps more bonus features. When I'm ready to jump on the Blu-Ray wagon, I'm buying the movies whose Blu-Rays surpass their DVDs in bonus content. What do I need a barebones Blu-Ray of a movie for if its DVD is barebones as well?

I love this movie, but they have got to be kidding with such a stupid release of it. Hollywood, this isn't how you get guys like me to switch to Blue Ray by a release that actually take things away from the DVD release! Very sad!

I wonder what the re-make will be like if it actually gets made.

I didn't realize this release didn't have any bonus features when I posted this....hopefully there will be more details about it in January or sooner about if this is just a barebones blu ray (which......sounds wrong on everything Blu Ray is suppose to stand for.....)

It wouldn't be the first time a Blu-ray has had less special features than the DVD. Both "The Graduate" and "Misery" off the top of my head only had the movie in hi-def on the Blu-ray disc. "Misery" included a DVD of the special edition so you sort of still get the features, and "Graduate" included one copy of a various past DVD release, so it was crap shoot if you'd get the special edition of a version with the just the movie on DVD. It really is bullcrap, but sadly it's nothing new.

Fox used to be notorious for leaving off almost all DVD features from the Blu-ray in almost every single release.

I thought the movie was okay..... Until I read the book. I can see why Ende sued the filmmakers. :headshake:

Why did the author sue the filmmakers?

The movies were ridiculously different from the books, and the author was unhappy with that.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who was heavily disturbed by the horse drowning.
I got to see it a year ago, and saw how fake it all was. I don't think the Blu-ray is going to help that, so I'm not buying it.

And to release a bare bones Blu-ray now means they can double dip later with more extras. They did it with DVD and now they're doing it again with BD. Too bad most people will fall for it because they want to see the movie in HD.

Am I the only person on Planet Earth who is tired of hearing people complain that the movies made are not like the books they were inspired from?

I didn't say it, he did himself. Although, the changes were pretty drastic in this particular case.....

I'm sure they were. And I'm not really a writer, so I don't mind if anyone dismisses my view completely on this. But still, I could care less about any movie not being what the book was. I can't see how any movie could ever live up to any book. Every director will take their liberties. Otherwise- what's the point of making a movie in the first place?

On that note, this isn't the only case of this director making a film that was met with backlash. It seems Outbreak was quite dispised by critics and everyone else- though financially it was a hit. And a lot of people strongly dislike Enemy Mine. I don't get it. I would still say his films are more intelligent than anything Michael Bay's had his name anywhere near.
