Garfield and Friends is season 1 is slated for a July release for all those who are fans of the series.

The first season contained 13 episodes before jumping to an average of 26 for seasons 2-4 i believe and then a 10 episode final season.

I love Garfield and Friends I remember watching it when I was younger during the 90's on CBS channel 2 on Saturday Mornings when it was popular with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Mask and Beakman's World.
Yeah those were the days.

it's very old style in it's approach. Rather than create a 30 minute show that runs the risk of jumping the shark they created smaller shorts that were similar to many of the older movie theatre shorts.

The real test will be how frequently they put the episodes out and what they do with the larger seasons {which run 26 and 27 episodes as opposed to 13}.

This knocks another one off the list of cartoons i want to see on dvd, hopefully it sells well.

Who were those barnyard animals? I remember that there were Garfield shorts and shorts involving animals, but I can barely remember it... except that one was about a love for peanuts, and that, in turn, made me want peanuts.

I remember the show very well. Garfield sounded suspiciously like Bill Murray, in my opinion. Here's a link I found to the theme song (beware, it plays right away when you click on it):

Oh, I loved that show ... one of my favorite cartoons when I was little, and even now (though it's been a while since I've seen it). I would buy the seasons on DVD, if they released them. Or even just small collections of episodes ...

The farm bits were called US Acres, I think, and had Orson the pig, and Sheldon, Wade (was the duck, I think). And the rooster. I liked how they mixed that in with the Garfield stories, I think it made for a nice variety.

Ironically Garfield and Bill Murray has been linked for years.

Lorenzo Music the voice of Garfield also did the voice of Murray's character Pete Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters {he also did Tummy Gummy, voices on talespin and those old 80's crash test dummy commercials}.

He sadly passed away from cancer but now ironically Bill Murray will voice Garfield for the movie. They both have that sarfacstic, lethargic sound to them.

This is a HUGE year for Garfield from a marketing standpoint. The first set of TV specials debute in June along with the movie, the first season of garfield and friends follows in july and from i've read the rest will follow.

Sniff sniff I miss those days. It's all Saturday morning cable run crapped these days!

I'm glad that Fox picked up Garfield distribution. My dad once asked me what I would think if Disney bought the rights to Garfield and I was thinking the end of the world as we know it! Heehee

I'm set to see the movie, by the first Garfield Special Dvd, and this. Hey I'm in the state where Garfield was born. he's my childhood idol and he's a kitty! i love kitties!

I don't mind the theme song ... it's not bad.

The Garfield movie is on my to-see list. I hope it turns out well. And if the series is indeed hitting DVD, I'm growing very eager to see it ... now that I'm remembering it all (and loving animation).

speaking about songs... do you remember that "Ant song" ????? damn, that WAS catchy :)

I looooved the show and of course would buy it.

The farm advantures, and the "quickies" were also great. I remember the rooster is called Roy, and there were Bo and Lanolin, two sheeps that always were fighting ahaha!!

I am exactly one day older than Garfield. I think of him like a brother. I grew up with him. 8)

If I had more money to spend on DVD's this would be one I would definitely be getting...

I'm just worried about the market getting flooded. At one point there werent enough good shows on dvd. Now the list is spinning out of control.

Batman and Jetsons and Garfield, etc. etc.

Though to me the gravest sin is how much they charge for Star Trek the Next Generation. I'm sorry but I'm not shelling out 700 dollars for 7 seasons. And that's if I can get them all at reasonable prices {samsclub.com,etc}.

Retail price is probably closer to or even over $1000 bucks for the series.

Gene must be spinning in his grave.

That's the only reason I don't have the X-Files box sets on DVD yet. :x

All these good shows on DVD... and a lot of shitty ones too... but no #@$*ing second season of Twin Peaks yet.

I must second you on this one! What is even more bothersome is the fact that the season one set doesn't even come with the first episode! The only way to get is to get the Asian bootleg, if it is a bootleg. So, you get that, you get the Season One set and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and you have almost the entire story except for the second season. I heard a rumor that the second season will be coming out eventually, but its really, really dumb to release half of a show.
