I have the BDP-BX2 which is the Sam's Club version (Costco may also sell this model, I'm not sure) of the BDP-S360. The only difference between the two models is the BX2 comes with a backlit remote and a HDMI cable. The BX2 is on sale for $125 at Sam's Club now.Maerj wrote:Is the Sony BDP-S360 Bluray player good, does anyone know? That's the one the article says will be at Target for $149 with a $20 gift card. I wouldn't mind getting one, I'd like a good player that upgrades regular DVDs, since I have a lot of those. THe price isn't too bad.
So far I have had no problems with the player since I got it in June. Seems to be as fast as my PS3 loading, and the picture quality is great (DVDs and Blu-rays). Its very quiet too.
The only downside to this model and the S360 is the lack of built in wireless for BD-Live. You can use BD-Live, but you will need a wired connection for it, and a USB memory stick (1 gig or better) for storage. You can still download firmware updates without it connected to the internet. Sony provides the updates on their site and instructions to create update CDs.
Overall its a good player and I would recommend one (either the BDP-BX2 or the BDP-S360).

So who else is going to be braving the crowds in a few hours? I'm getting out to Target around 4:15 to hopefully snag a copy of the Blu-ray "Wizard of Oz" (two, if possible, one for my mom). I will understandably be very out out if they do not have them in, as it's pretty much the only thing I want to get today.
Here's hoping we none of us get trampled...

...and I got to Target around 4:30, waited on line 'til 5:00, and then got in to see a blank slot where the three-disc Emerald Edition of "The Wizard of Oz" should be. I managed to find an employee who said they had five copies in the back. I got two, one for me and one for my mom, and ran to the register and was out of the store by 5:16. A successful trip!
The line outside the store wasn't too bad, I'd say maybe around 700 feet long or so. Inside, it was a little worse. People were getting hit by carts all over, especially since a majority of the people couldn't see over widescreen TVs. Still, not any worse than I'd expect. Best Buy I hear was a mess, though.
I think people like PanFan are going to have a better time of things, because everyone seems to be focusing on big items as opposed to CDs / DVDs / Blu-rays, and just sort of grabbing them as they see them. Nonetheless, I'm glad I got what I wanted and got out. I might not mind going back later today and seeing what's left over in some stores, but I'm content to nap for now.

Went to Wal Mart at 5 a.m. with some friends, and we had all the stuff we wanted within 15 minutes (it would have taken shorter if we didn't have to fight through the massive crowd of people). We waited in line for TWO HOURS. I wouldn't normally have done that, but my friend needed a certain gift for their cousin and it happened to be on sale cheap, and they had other stuff for Christmas gifts so it wasn't that bad.
I also went to Best Buy and got everything I had hoped to get with the exception of Family Guy Vol. 7 - which they were selling without slipcovers so the cover was just the one giant picture of the Griffins' family room with random recurring characters with no title on it anywhere (except on the spine), and there was no way I was getting that.
We then headed to Target and I panicked when I couldn't find a copy of season 2 of Friends at the display in the front of the store, so I sprinted to the back and found the last copy! Along with Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Rihanna's Rated R album, I felt accomplished.

I really did not buy much this year as the sales were kind of a letdown.
I first went to Target and picked up The Wizard of Oz, Reservoir Dogs and The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray (As well as a few hockey cards). I wanted to get Batman: Arkham Asylum for my PS3, but they were all out.
I then went to Meijer and did not see anything I liked (Except for maybe Casino Royale on BD, but the price scanner rang it up to 29.95 instead of 9.00, so I put it back)
