Congrats, Margos! It's great that you feel comfortable enough to come out there. UD was actually the first place where I came out of the closet too.
Plus UD rules in having the most awesome gay and bi people than anywhere else.
And it's also nice to mee another bisexual. I know down at my school's GLBT center I'm pretty much like the lone bi rep for all our panel discussions with have about the center with the other classes.

Yeah, I just knew that we had a pretty decent-sized, supportive community here. But I'm not that comfortable, yet.... I believe only 6 people that I know in real life know (and two of them are bi too). I'm probably not going to tell my mother for quite a long time, either. It's bad enough she doesn't trust me around my male friends, I can't imagine how isolated she'd make me if she knew!PrincePhillipFan wrote: Congrats, Margos! Sorry for destroying all the "gay" fun, but something happened recently that disgusted me because it goes against all my beliefs of equality and human rights.
A few days ago a young man was brutally murdered. Not only that, they cut off his head and his penis, and left his body to rot. His apparent crime? You guessed it... he was gay.
This is one of the worst hate crimes Puerto Rico has ever seen, forcing people to march for gay rights as well as human rights.
What I find disgusting is that they have killed people for being gang members, criminals, rapists and such, and yet they didn't receive the cruelty this young man did. Its as if being gay is worse than being a murdered, thief, corrupt person, rapist and the like, and this bothers me.
I may not be gay, but I believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. People should only be punished when they have done something truly terrible, like raping a little girl, threatening the lives of others and the disruption of our right to live at peace. Being gay shouldn't be a crime, and sadly, its considered to be WORSE than the things I mentioned.
It is also sad that people are using the word of God to pursue the hatred of pursue of gays, something that contradicts God's word of love and equality. It's disgusting.

Pap, that is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard! I was shocked and horrified, and outraged! There has to be something that we can do about this, because it's simply intolerable that people can be so, well, intolerant! This has been going on for a long, long time and it needs to stop. I can't believe that people can be so cruel. And of course, the saddest irony is the last thing that you pointed out: that it's mostly fundamental Christians persecuting people. If I recall correctly, Jesus wanted everyone to love everyone else. And persecuting people for loving would be one of those things that would probably make Jesus very angry if he was still alive today.

Sorry for the double post, and the ridiculously long-ago quote, I was just paging back through this thread, and couldn't help but comment. Lady GaGa is my hero!Nick Bryant wrote:These stories are so endearing

Well, I don't think so, anyway. I mean, aside from the few people that already know and everyone on UD, no one that knows me can tell that I'm bisexual... (which is what the song is about). Which is a bit unfortunate, as I do not have the guts to actually come fully out of the closet yet of my own volition..... Maybe I will if I listen to Lady GaGa enough, if her music can magically imbue me with her own strength and courage!Mason_Ireton wrote:hmmm *thinks* wan'na bet Margos ? *chuckles*

I know. But at the same time, it seems counterproductive: promoting LGBT pride while hiding my own sexuality. Just feels a little hypocritical to me. And a hypocrite is the last thing I want to be. I don't know what I'm afraid of, I guess it's just that I've been repressed for so long that, even though I myself am becoming more comfortable with it, I'm still a little nervous about it, and even more shy around girls than I used to be....Mason_Ireton wrote:just take your time Margos, no need to rush my dear.

We're going to be discussing gay marriage in a my AP Government class soon... Oh boy, I am not looking forward to that. I have a friend, who's really more like an older brother, who's kind of a homophobe. If we don't murder each other, it'll be a miracle!
Anyway.... I feel like I've been more or less taking over this thread.... Where is everyone!?

Sorry for the double-post (and my "hostile takeover" of this thread, for some reason), but here's something I found interesting.... seriously, not like the last thing I posted:

I think the only real problem I had was that Lambert sounded worse than usual—he usually does great. I guess being on tour for the first time has taken its toll. The song’s so-so though. I felt bad because I wanted him to do great.
I don’t understand the problem people had with his performance though. Nearly everyone was sexualized on this show. Even Carrie Underwood relied on sex appeal for her performance (she sounded horrible by the way; I think she was just singing too high). Clarkson and Houston were the only ones I can remember having any real decorum. The only reason it’s an issue is because he’s gay. That much is obvious.
I mean, to be honest, I don’t like the blatant sexuality either, but that goes for everyone and not just the gay guy.
By the way, did anyone notice how awkward it was when Taylor Swift won over Michael Jackson for Entertainer of the Year (or whatever)? I knew it was coming.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Yeah, it's a double-standard, it's disgusting, and it needs to stop. I'm proud of Adam for even having the balls to do his performance, and who gives a shit what the mainstream machine thinks! (Of course, Lady GaGa's still the queen of the shock-factor, but young Lambert seems to be learning.....)
But yeah, I was shocked when Taylor Swift beat Michael Jackson. To be fair, I was rooting for GaGa to beat MJ... (yeah, never gonna happen, I know). But seriously!? The fact that MJ lost to anyone is odd enough, but Taylor Swift!? I mean, she's good and all (I loved "You Belong with Me), but... really? Artist of the year?

In regards to Lambert, I saw on IMDB that "over 1500 people complained" about his behaviour. What I'm curious about is what was the total number of people who watched the show and in what percent does that 1500 relate too? If 100,000s or millions of people watched it than those who complained would be a minuscule percentage of the total audience that in no way would reflect everyone's opinions and likely just be a bunch of homophobic jerks.
But like the FCC episode of Family Guy says, "each call equals a billion people!".
