Blu-Rays for Gone With the Wind and Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz 3 Disc Emerald Edition, currently Target exclusive, is up for pre-order on Amazon for a Dec 1 release date. That exclusivity didn't last as long as I thought it would and hopefully this will help the price drop. I intend on picking it up for $13 on Black Friday from Target, unless Amazon can do better.

Now if Warner would make a 2-disc GWTW, instead of the current overpriced 1-disc version, and sell it everywhere so the competition would knock the price down.

I'm sure the stripped-down double BD of "Gone with the Wind" will quickly eventuate on Amazon...and you shouldn't have to wait long at all, if the Emerald Edition of "Wizard" is already being rushed out in December.

Does anyone's Target have any Oz Blus? All the Targets around me haven't had any for a couple of weeks now and I'm starting to think they won't have any for Black Friday. Just my luck, what they hell kind of rich people can afford to pay the full price $40 anyways, jerks.

Just want to know if its just really popular at my Targets or if all Targets haven't been receiving shipments.

I didnt bother going out shopping till like noon today. I didnt know until just before I left that my dad finally got a Blu Ray. So I was kind of an idiot for missing out on the WoO Blu Rays. Theyre sold out everywhere but I dunno if they were sold out before the Black Day sale even begun. But given that it's a 70th Anniv 3 disc collection for only $13, chances of me getting my copy even if I had gone at 4am were still very unlikely anyways.

I'm probably just gonna order over Amazon.

I went out yesterday specifically for the Emerald Edition of Wizard and Target didn't have any. I was rather upset because everyone else in the Blu-ray aisle was just looking, they weren't actually getting anything. I actually did want something and after five minutes, I discovered that there wasn't even a slot for it. Maybe I'll find a deal somewhere else, but I do really want this. I might go looking today.

This happened to me when "Snow White" was released. There were absolutely no Blu's on the shelf (this was the day after it's release!) so I asked an employee and it turned out that they hadn't yet unpacked their shipment! I waited for around 5 mins until they unpacked the discs and received an extra discount.

Sometimes when you don't see something that has been advertised, it pays to ask...

Well, I went to a different Target and acquired a copy of The Wizard of Oz. There were only two other copies, so maybe I should have purchased them and sold them on eBay for big money

Anyway, story time:

I found the copy the second time I looked at the Blu-ray section. I guess I didn't see it (probably because it was at the bottom). Anyway, the slot said $39.99 so I asked an employee to check the price and he told me that it was, indeed, $39.99. I told him that that wasn't what the ad said and he told me some bologna about how it was just for the DVD version. I was like, "whatever," and my dad and I left because he needed to check for something in the automotive department. Whatever he wanted wasn't there, so I decided to look again at the Blu-ray because I was 100% positive that the employee was wrong. I used the price checker and, lo-and-behold, the Blu-ray was $12.99. So we got it, and I'm pretty happy with myself. I think that the employees should probably at least recheck the merchandise before just going with their gut feeling. But, whatever. I'm happy.

Well all 5 of my Targets haven't had the Oz Blu in weeks

I checked all of them for a couple of weeks now, hoping to snag a copy, and then PM on Black Friday but they never had any (just the empty space on the shelf). I ended up asking employees the day before and they said they wouldn't be getting any shipments until Saturday at the earliest. Why the hell even advertise this damn sale if none of their stores are going to stock them on the day of the sale. I ended up not leaving the house on Black Friday.

I never go to Target and this is one of the reasons why. I don't pay over $20 for any of my Blus, especially since I've been getting my recent ones for around $10, so I guess It'll be waiting a while before I can purchase this. It figures a ton of them show up on eBay the next day.

Target or Warner really dropped the ball on this one!

Agreed. I probably should've gone to Target again today to check if they were on the shelves this time but I just gave up an ordered a copy on Amazon for around $30. I feel that it's the best deal to be doing now. Ebay copies (some of which state that theyre bought straight from Target

) are being sold for ungodly prices and the regular stores will be selling them for $40 or more after this weekend ends.

I wouldn't wait around on this purchase if I were you. I would recommend buying on Amazon (or another site if you can find) for the best price you can get before the prices for these copies become insane.

Warner Home Video has announced yet another Blu-ray release for the all-time classic Gone with the Wind. This one is called the Scarlett Edition: it consists of three discs and comes with all the disc-based features found in the 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition (including the six-hour documentary When the Lion Roars on the history of MGM), but not the CD soundtrack sampler, or the memorabilia. Street date is set for April 13, and list price is $49.99.

Also The Wizard of Oz 3-Disc Emerald Edition is on sale for $16.49 at amazon.com

So why does Gone With the Wind 3-disc include the same third disc (When the Lion Roars) that the The Wizard of Oz 3-disc set has? Why didn't they just give us the same 2-disc set that the UK has? Probably to charge us more for a repeat documentary on a film studio that had nothing to do with making Gone With the Wind.

Oh well, I'm glad it's FINALLY available but I won't pay over $15 for it (since the third disc is a waste).

Third disc or not, you won't pay more than $15 for a two disc blu-ray? That's sort of ridiculous.

No its not. Wouldn't pay more then $15 for a 2-disc DVD, won't pay that either for Blu-ray. It would have to be a movie I REALLY love to pay more then that (I only just like Gone With the Wind). What is ridiculous are people who spend a TON of money on movies they don't REALLY love (maybe never even seen before, blind buying, I think its called), just because they're Blu-rays, and they feel the format alone is worth the premium.

You probably weren't around during the early years of dvd. And what's the fun of only buying movies you already know? If I'd had to wait for movies to appear on tv or something, I would've missed out on a lot of great movies.

I must agree with KubrikFan. I've never seen a problem with blind-buying. After all, you "blind-buy" cinema tickets, and view with one or two other people and you've probably exceeded the cost of a DVD/Blu-ray already for one viewing - expecially if you take into account travel costs etc. And if you get a DVD/Blu-ray you don't like, you can always sell it on and recoup some of the cost. [shrugs] I've never understood why people don't want to blind-buy DVDs.

I rarely blind-buy, unless i know im gonna enjoy it. i netflix most of my movies, and that's fun too! I'm a blind-renter.

Blind buying is dumb. My library gets everything released (except porn) so there is no incentive to spend money. After renting it for free, if I like it, I'll buy it. If not, at least I didn't waste money.

Well, what if you don't have that option? My library doesn't even rent Blu-rays, and the local rental store won't have every title either. Plus, my player is converted to play all regions. Where am I going to rent BDs from region A? For some titles it's simply impossible to check them before you see them on BD. And frankly, I like being able to watch a movie that I've never seen before.
