I still think it would've been possible to do the Hyperion Studios feature on the DVD. In my eyes, the technology used for it is equivalent to a DVD menu. How many DVD menus feature animated transitions? Plenty, and that's really all the Hyperion Studios does. It bookends each video clip with footage from the menu it's from that way the experience is seamless. I don't see how this is exclusive to Blu-ray outside of a smoother, speedier experience, but considering the Hyperion menus are mostly static, loading times shouldn't make things that clunky.

Exactly. Or, they simply could have converted the files into something that could have been placed on a DVD with more ease and fluidity, like any normal bonus feature.
The way it is now, I would have rather have had them simply re-package the 2001 DVD, with maybe the new restoration substituted.

My advice to anybody who owns the Platinum Edition and wants to get the new restoration is to pick up the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack in one of its many forms. That way you get to watch the new restoration now and will have all of the bonus features if/when you get a Blu-Ray player down the road. And if you never get a Blu-Ray player, odds are somebody that you know will and you can ask them if you can use their TV for 4 hours to take the Hyperion Studio tour.

Hey I've come to learn to always lower my hopes whenever a new edition of a DVD comes out.

I was at Wal-Mart and Target on weekend that I saw a "Diamond Edition" of "Snow White" which was recently came out. I looked at it and I'm not suppose to pick it up, so I have to avoid it at all costs. I do like the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD a lot better than the "Diamond Edition", because it is so cool to watch and it's still the best. It's got the extra, the music video with Barbra Streisand on there and lots more including a documentary by Angela Landsbury.

I'm not a big fan of Blu-Rays, but I prefer DVD's, so I realized that I will not be picking that up, so I do prefer the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD which is a lot better, but I'm keeping it.

When it comes out on a regular DVD by late November, I will get it for my niece just in time for Christmas, because she doesn't have it yet. We shall see.

Instead of buying a "Diamond Edition" of "Snow White", I decided to get something else including "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and "The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again" as a 2-DVD double feature release which I got at Wal-Mart for $10 and a Looney Tunes DVD's for $15, and the second one a week later.

I haven't watched the Looney Tunes in a very long time, but it is still the best, but it is way better than the Disney Princess, "Hanna Montana" and all that Disney stuff is in the drain.

I haven't bought a Looney Tunes DVD in a long time since I last bought it back in 2005, but after 4 years, I decided to get it and enjoy, so I got to hold off that "Snow White" Diamond Edition for now, but I have to get something else.

So for now, I'm keeping the "Snow White" 2001 Platinum Edition DVD, but I'm not getting the Diamond Edition. Never!

I just got round to buying the Collectors Edition today in the UK ... and I have to say I am appalled with Disney with this release.

This is the most important film in Disney history ... yet it has been delivered extremely poorly over here. There have been a few TV adverts; mostly connected to a supermarket. No huge poster displays .... not bus shelter posters .... and hardly any web advertising.

One really totally destroyed me though was the DVD itself. Now I understand DVD cant have all the features of a bluray, I understand that. But from what I gather, Sleeping Beauty the year before, managed a happy medium in between the two. The DVD banner which would normally state 'Two Disc Special Edition' or some such now has the winning title of ...... '2 Disc DVD'.

That is it.

Disney isnt even pretending that they are going to make their DVDs 'Special' any more. Its just a plain grey ugly banner, with the different DVD cover of Snow White and the apple.

I know how bluray is better in every way, but I cannot afford a player, and will not for a very a long time. I cant help that. I dont feel I should be discriminated by Disney when I still want to purchase a DVD. I was too young to buy Snow White the first time, so have been looking forward to owning this for a very long time. Due to such dissapointment in this DVD, I'm going to see if I can buy the 2001 version.

I know this seems terribly over-dramatic, but you know what it's like with the run up to a big release from Disney. I think its been two years for this one ? And to be faced with such a dissapointing plain old 'DVD' .... with nothing 'special' about it ..... is, well, extremely upsetting. Think I am considering this as the death of Disney DVD.

I'm with you 100%, Atlanticaunderthesea. There was absolutely no reason to do this, even if Blu-Ray is so superior. There's clever marketing, and then there's just.... crossing the line!

I don't like it that Disney is hyping blu-ray on everyone. I think this is supposed to be a push to get people switched to blu-ray even though some people may be strapped for cash. Why can't we have much of a choice anyway?

As I've said before, I would be more willing to get blu-rays if it wasn't for the prices. But I probably wouldn't be able to play them. I could watch a blu-ray with my sister's Playstation 3, but I still wouldn't be able to play it because I don't have a blu-ray TV. I have a plasma HD TV. I'm not so keen on spending a load of money to watch a movie that would look good enough on my little, old bedroom TV.

Blu-ray is better than DVD when it comes to quality, but to me it's not worth it for the price. Maybe a year or two from now I could get a blu-ray TV or player, but not right now. The bonus features are nice to have, but I'm getting the DVDs no matter how much they dry them up.

Disney used to do coupons for both the DVD and Blu-Rays, but that seems to have stopped with 'Hannah Montana: The Moive.' Ever since, they've offered a $10 coupon for Blu-Rays and nothing for the DVDs. It's possible that they will have one for this, but the fact that they haven't even advertised the DVD-only release is probably a good indication that there won't be a manufacturers coupon for it.

Yup, I think you're right. The last time I saw a $5 off coupon for a DVD was in September with DisneyNature's earth.
