The Punisher (2004)

Post by DDMAN26 »

Just got back from seeing The Punisher.
Awful, terrible film. I knew I should have seen Kill Bill Vol 2 instead. Don't waste your time. Worst comic book movie ever. Worse than Batman and Robin. Worse than Daredevil. League of Extrodinary Gentleman. Maybe the worst movie of the past five years. Terrible terrible terrible. Save your money. See Home on the Range. See the Passion. See the Ladykillers. Eternal Sunshine. Anything has to be better than this.

Wow! Thanks. I didn't think this movie looked all that good, but I was going to see it anyway because I like all of the recent comic book movies. I saw "Kill Bill 2" and it was amazing. I am sorry that you saw the wrong movie.

I would certainly hope so.

The Punisher comics have so much potential for a movie; if Hollywood has now screwed it up worse the second time then that is really sad.

As pointed out here, it SURELY couldn't be worse than the original Punisher movie with Dolf (and yes, you have Australia to blame for that one - filmed in Queensland, starring 'Australia's own' Barry Otto, father of Miranda 'Eowyn' Otto).

I have only read the comic adaptation so far (not out here in Australia), so stuff could have changed, but based on the script it seemed like a smart mix of the origin story and the Garth Ennis run on the Marvel Knights imprint (not his current much darker, and arguably better MAX run).

I still lokk forward to it, as the Punisher is one of my guilty favourite collections.

Loomis I've never seen the original Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie. Maybe the worst big budgeted comic book movie might be more accurate.

I saw it & really enjoyed it. It's quite violent which is to be expected but I thought Tom Jane was very good & Travolta (though he had a couple of laughable lines) on the whole was an excellent antagonist. I don't care what the critics say I think it was well worth seeing (& I plan on buying the dvd).

Jules: You know the shows on TV?
Vincent: I don't watch TV.
Jules: Yeah, but, you are aware that there's an invention called television, and on this invention they show shows, right?
