With Christmas just around the corner, has anyone seen the Babes in Toyland DVD in any of the Christmas movie displays yet like at Walmart?
Two years ago, Walmart had it in amongst the Christmas movies and I wanted to pick it up. However, when I returned the next day, all copies were gone. I didn't see it anywhere last year in any of the holiday movie displays. Anyone seen it in stores this year?

We need a 2-disc special edition for the upcoming 50th Anniversary: Remastered 1:66 "Babes in Toyland" (with remixed Stereo track from original multichannel stems) plus extras: remastered "Backstage Party," "Title Makers," "The Truth About Mother Goose." "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood," "Midnight in a Toy Shop," "Santa's Workshop," trailers, original cast LP and "Disney Family Album: Annette." (Maybe even include a remastered "March of the Wooden Soldiers" since it is now Public Domain).

My local Best Buy had it in two separate displays. One was an end cap of Disney Christmas movies in the DVD section. The other was near the checkout and it's a section of all Christmas movies, so at least here it's getting a lot of push for the holidays. I hope it becomes an annual top seller around this time like Hocus Pocus did so that Disney gives it a proper release.Barbossa wrote:With Christmas just around the corner, has anyone seen the Babes in Toyland DVD in any of the Christmas movie displays yet like at Walmart?
I'm currently watching and reviewing every Disney film in chronological order. You can follow along at my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.

Walmart did bring out the Santa Clause 3-pack with Tim the Toolman, so I'm hoping Babes hits the shelves soon.goofystitch wrote:My local Best Buy had it in two separate displays. I havent seen it at all anywhere this yearBarbossa wrote:It's odd, I still haven't seen Babes anywhere this year. Not even in Future Shop or HMV. I'll try Walmart again tomorrow as I just remembered that last year they had the Christmas DVDs in the seasonal section with the Christmas decorations, not in the DVD/Home entertainment area.

50th anniversary in 2011, perfect time for a new DVD release with good special features and maybe even the BLU RAY.....but would Disney give this movie the love it deserves?

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

That sounds like an awesome costume!MadasaHatter wrote:I've always had an affection for this film. I don't know why. I actually was Barnaby for Halloween once when I was a kid in kindergarden. We did the whole kindergarden parade thing around the whole school and everything. NO-ONE got my costume. My dad made it and it was AWESOME!!
Last year, I was thinking that I'd really love to make a Mary Contrary dress to wear to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, but I haven't had the time to make progress on that idea. Yet... Christmas comes again next year, right?

Johnny Depp as Barnaby doesn't seem hard to imagine. Can't figure out a part for Helena Bonham Carter, though... could she be the slightly quirky and twisted Mother Goose?

NO NO NO. This is a Disney Classic that MUST NOT be TOUCHED!Barbossa wrote:I wonder if anyone at Disney has ever considered to remake this one. I wonder how a Tim Burton version of this would be, we'd defnitely get a dose of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
I am sure you were just being funny, but I am tired of the remakes, remakes, remakes.........

I thought it was really funny (painted some amusing images in my mind), but I don't think I'd like for it to actually happen, either.jediliz wrote: I am sure you were just being funny, but I am tired of the remakes, remakes, remakes.........

I hear you Cordy. I dont understand it.Cordy_Biddle wrote:You'd think that the ever-expanding fanbase of Annette Funicello would cause Disney to re-think how they've packaged her movies on DVD, but I sadly doubt it...

Considering how many people feel this film is inferior to the 1934 version with Laurel and Hardy, which makes it a remake, I don't see the horror in someone else trying another take on the story if it's a quality film.
I'd love to see a version that like the 1934 tries to be scary and is funny, has the effects and song and dance sequences of the Disney version, but unlike either makes Tom and Mary somewhat compelling characters.
