Thanksgiving Themed Movies

Since I LOVE watching holiday-themed films and episodes of television shows, I realized that I barely watch ANY Thanksgiving-themed films.

So, that said, what are your favorites that you recommend?

Hannah and Her Sisters - it all depends on if you like Woody Allen movies or not.

Planes, Trains, & Automobiles - need I say more?

Dutch - a really really really really really really really really really really bad movie with Ed O'Neill and Ethan Embry (years before they'd team up again for the "Dragnet" revival). But it's so bad that it's awesome.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is really the only Thanksgiving-themed movie that comes to mind to me, unless you count A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

One of the signature scenes in The Color Purple takes place during the family Thanksgiving feast.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving - It's not really a movie, but it's worth a credit.

For me it's Charlie Brown and Garfield. There's also a Rankin/Bass one that my parents have a copy of, but I've never gotten into the habit of watching it (though I love Rankin/Bass, but it's 2D and they are better with puppets; except with Frosty). I also have a recording of a Ralphie Thanksgiving story (Ralphie from A Christmas Story, this was one of the TV movies that predated that film, and Ralph is a teen in it), but it is less about the holiday and more about a romance he had that year. It just comes to a head on Thanksgiving. Then, I have a film I bought for 3 bucks after a friend raved about it. It stars Katie Holmes and is called "Pieces of April". However, as alluring as the cover was, I found it just awful, ha. Then, and I'm just throwing titles out now for folks LOOKING for Thanksgiving film, there's the National Lampoon's one, "Thanksgiving Reunion". Also not very good. I need to start watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles I guess. Another good one though, is Addams Family Reunion, which has its Thanksgiving moment that makes it pretty fun to watch on the big day.

Chicken Run also kinda feels Thanksgiving-ish to me, ha.

I, along with countless others, absolutely love Pieces of April. Definitely Katie Holmes's best performance to date.

"What's Cooking" is a good, lesser-known Thanksgiving movie. It's directed by the same woman who did "Bend It Like Beckham." It's the interweaving stories of four (I think, maybe more, maybe less) families of different ethnicities who are all trying to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Very good portrayal of different family types.
