Us DVD people won't trash your enjoyment of your amazingly advanced technology, but you Blu-people must kindly stop bashing our cost-effective and still pretty darn good way of watching movies!

And that's just one. The most recent one. I have very rarely seen anyone say that Blu-Ray is stupid or pointless. Impractical, yes, but good for those who can afford it. I have never seen anyone insult Blu-fans, per se, only tell them to quit the superiority complex.Prince Edward wrote: Blu-ray is the future and they are better than DVD, so I don't understand those who say that they will never buy anything else than DVDs. Did you guys say the same thing about VHS when DVDs were the new format? And are you planning to buy DVDs 20-30 years from now also? Why not embrace new and better technology and stop fighting the future.
However, the above isn't a great example. In fact, I barely registered it as a negative statement in comparison to some of the others, insulting the intelligence of all of us "stingy tightwads" who cling to our "obsolete, crappy-quality DVDs," because we simply don't appreciate movies, and don't want to see them in their "proper" quality.

I'm a Blu-Ray supporter, but I have posted all over UD about how wrong I thought their marketing tactics were with the DVD packaging and I side with all of the DVD owners who are upset about the lack of new features on the 2-disc DVD. So I guess I am evidence of a Blu-Ray fan who admits that Disney uses some bad tactics to push Blu-Ray on consumers who aren't ready to switch yet.ajmrowland wrote:evidence?Margos wrote:That's funny.
Blu-Ray is still new. Only about 10% of the market has switched. There's nothing wrong with still buying DVDs. In fact, it's normal.

That's more an unbiased statement than actually bashing the format. A lot of people could tell you blu-ray is actually better, but that does not mean they've totally given up on DVD.Margos wrote:And that's just one. The most recent one. And about 20% of the market switched to blu-ray.

Yes. There are plenty of blu-supporters who do not wish to start fights, and understand that it's all just petty squabbling over something that never needed to be a war.
I am not saying anything about specific blu-users, but, in general, there are more combative blu-people than combative DVD people. Let's just all agree that the marketing is ridiculous, and shut up about it!

For the hundreth time: it's not significantly better and it's not comparable to the difference between VHS and DVD. BluRay is a cynical marketing ploy to trick people into buying things they already own, only a few years after the introduction of DVD.Prince Edward wrote:Blu-ray is the future and they are better than DVD, so I don't understand those who say that they will never buy anything else than DVDs. This is the way i feel too. Although there is an evident upscale of audio-visual quality in Blu-rays the difference is not as huge as the difference between VHS/DVDs. However, I've began buying blu-rays because I've realised i can't fight the market and i don't want to be left in the same situation that i was (missing many Disney releases which were soon vaulted because of my denial to upgrade to DVDs) when DVDs were introduced.Goliath wrote:For the hundreth time: it's not significantly better and it's not comparable to the difference between VHS and DVD. Blu-ray has a resolution that's five times higher than dvd, while vhs had the same resolution as dvd. The audio is the same track that the studios mix, only compressed. Again far greater than the difference between dvd and vhs.Goliath wrote: For the hundreth time: it's not significantly better and it's not comparable to the difference between VHS and DVD. Just because it's also a disc doesn't mean the difference is smaller.

Actually, VHS had 250 lines of resolution horizontally as opposed to DVD's 480. DVD was a marked improvement on the VHS in every way.KubrickFan wrote:vhs had the same resolution as dvd
But you are right in saying that Blu-ray is not "slightly" better than DVD. It's about four times better than DVD image-wise. That's not slightly better, that's just superior. There's really no way around it. If you're okay with DVDs, that's fine, I don't care, and I do think Disney's marketing is lame as all get out, but you can't argue with the resolution numbers.

Just bougth the two disk DVD "Deluxe edition" of Snow White and I'm sorry to say I'm dissapointed. So few extra! No "making of", Art Galleries or Character Development, the sort of things most 'deluxe editions' of Disney DVD's are crammed with! Did I double-dip just for these few more bonusses like "Disney through the ages" and "Snow White returns"?
I guess I have to buy a blue-ray player to play the blue-disk edition which of course is full of the bonus features I would like to see.
I'm suspecting Disney is DELIBIRATELY bringing out such bare-bones "DVD 'deluxe editions' " so that lots of fans will feel forced to buy a blu- ray player to get a deluxe Disney edition that's worth the name. (or why else is Blu-ray so heavily promoted on this dvd?)
Really, I feel angry
(I really needed something to lighten the mood: last week I had a terrible backage -lumbago- and now I'm almost recovered from that I've catched a terrible cold )

Please tell me where on the case it says Deluxe? It seems by calling them "2-Disc DVDs" Disney is being very careful to impart these are nothing more than a step above a normal bare bones release. It's like the Days of VHS and Laserdisc - one was the Super Duper Deluxe Widescreen Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious edition and the other was the VHS. This time, It's the Diamond Edition and the DVD, it's just that the DVD has more than one platter.BelleGirl wrote:Just bougth the two disk DVD "Deluxe edition" of Snow White and I'm sorry to say I'm dissapointed.
So, I haven't been around here much lately, but I have a question. To be honest, I'm too lazy to scroll through this thread and look for an answer. Can someone tell me... If I already own the original 2-Disc Platinum Edition DVD, is there any reason to double dip on the new DVD version?

If you have a dying desire to see John Ratzenburger completely destroy Micheal Eisner's legacy through some not too so subtle sarcasm, yes (Poor Jodi Benson got the short straw on that bonus feature...). The restoration is also much, much better. Other than that if you plan to stick to DVD I wouldn't bother (though remember what happened to everybody who got the VHS...).Simba3 wrote:So, I haven't been around here much lately, but I have a question.
