Walt Disney Treasures - 54 Disc Set!

Do any other props and costumes survive from "Babes in Toyland"?

It's wonderful to see these pieces (does Annette know about them being on display?). So many classic costumes from other studios were sold/auctioned off years ago, never to be heard from again...

I'm sure there are many more props and costumes in the Disney archives from Babes in Toyland, but I have no idea what else they have. While Disney never did any big auctions the way MGM and Warner did, it's hard to know what has survived the years and the lack of an archive at the time the film was made.

When I met Dave Smith, he told me a story of when he first started archiving props and costumes. One thing he had been looking for that he absolutely couldn't find was the snowglobe that Julie Andrews held during "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. He assumed it had been destroyed or taken during production. A few years later, he was called into somebody's office at the studio and he noticed a snow globe on their shelf of the British Bank that Mr. Banks worked at. The person didn't even know that it was the snow globe from Mary Poppins, but they found it sitting on top of a trash can at the studio years earlier and rescued it because it was pretty. So there unless Disney releases a list of exactly what they have, we may never know what else survived from Babes in Toyland.

I am not sure what other props the studio may have from the Babes in Toyland movie. So many props were destroyed or lost after production, even from the most classic Disney Films such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I do know that the Yellow Dress that Annette wore in Babes in Toyland was offered for sale on Ebay a number of years ago as was repoted in her fan club newsletter. It didnt get any bids and to my knowledge has never been relisted. It wasnt being sold by the studio so its hard to know just how someone from outside the studio did end up getting their hands on that. Like Goofystitches fantastic story proves....before the archives started collecting and documenting such things.....anyone could get their hands on anything and it could be just thrown out very easily. Dave Smith is a very nice man and im sure if you would write him about this he would be happy to fill you in. I would sure like to know what happend to Annettes Wedding Dress. For those who dont know.... Annette loved the wedding dress in the movie so much she asked the man who designed it if when she got married if he would design her Wedding Dress....and he did.

It didnt get any bids and to my knowledge has never been relisted. Since she wore the yellow dress through the majority of the film, there were probably several made. I'm not sure how the eBay person got a hold of one, but I would be shocked if the archives didn't have at least one of the yellow dress in their collection. When I think of Babes in Toyland, that's the image of Annette that pops into my head.

I did the math. It's much, much, much cheaper to buy this set than go through all of the sellers and collect them all. And it's also much cheaper buying them together than if I had bought them when they were originally released.

Yes that is correct. To quote from Annettes Autobiography A DREAM IS A WISH YOUR HEART MAKES : "As promised years before, Bill Thomas created my wedding gown of satin covered by imported French chantilly lace, with a five foot long cathedral train frosted with crystal beads. The headpiece was adapted from the one I wore during the wedding scene of Babes in Toyland."

Thats true...I bet there was more then one made. After all she even wore that yellow dress on Disneylands BACKSTAGE PARTY. That would be a lot of wear and tear for one dress. I also think of Annette in the Yellow dress mostly when I think of her in Babes in Toyland but I think my favorite dress is the bluish one she wore with the flowers on it. it has great detail ...even has little flowers on the shoes. It looks more like a dress I would picture Mary Quite Contrairy from the classic childrens storybooks wearing.

I just ordered the D23 membership along with the 54-disc Treasures set (which was up for pre-order and will become available on December 8th) and my credit card was charged immediately for the whole price. My questions are: 1) Why was my card charged before the items got shipped? 2) In case the Treasures set runs out by the time my order is shipped, how will I get my money back?

Don't worry - it's just a pre-authorization ($700 is a lot of money they want to make sure you can afford it). It won't become a charge untill it ships.

I decided to cancel my Treasures set because I run into an emergency and needed the money. I want to cancel my D23 membership too since the only reason I ordered it in the first place was for the Treasures set. Does anyone know how I can do that? It hasn't shipped yet, so theoretically I should be able to cancel it.

There should be a cooling off period for the membership. I'd get some cheap Skype credit, call up the hotline and start from there. Don't get off the line until you get a resolution or somebody is crying. Only if for some reason you fail, then get onto your bank and chargeback. Tell them why it's misleading.
