I'd really like to redo that F&TH rip one of these days. Maybe if I ever get around to picking it up on DVD. I think I missed Amos Slade's short song when I did my rip. (To be fair, it'd been many moons since I'd last really WATCHED the movie, and I wasn't watching it then either.

I remember like the closest thing I heard to a legit recording of Amos' song was on a book-on-tape I used to have. I wish I still did, because I'd like to have that again.

I've toyed with doing it from my DVD, but every time I tried, it ended up just sounding a really lousy audio rip... am I right in remembering you split up audio channels for your version? I can't do that, is my problem. Well, I mean, I could if I had the equipment or something, but I'm not too sure how that's done.

No, I've only split up audio channels on a very few rips - most of the time, it ends up sounding completely lousy. I did a Freaky Friday (original version) rip a while back and was able to get a good result from splitting up the channels, but that was lucky - for the most part, no dialogue, sound effects, or anything came through on the rear channels of that mix, so I could get away with it. I tried to do that a while back with Beauty and the Beast, but a lot of the dialogue and sound effects still came through, so I just scrapped it.

I have done a lot of encoding MP3's in mono though - mostly either because the source material was damaged in one channel, the stereo separation is horrible, or because I know it's in mono. A 160 KBPS mono MP3 is the same quality as a 320 KBPS stereo MP3, but with half the filesize.

Any more news on the new edition? I expected a late August/early September release too, but with it begin April and no press release from Disney or hints from the BBFC can will still expect something for this year?

Yeah, as a rule of thumb there are three months before firm announcement and street date (less if it's a new title and the street date has an embargo attached to it). So we've still got 6 weeks at the very most if Disney is planning to debut it in the window you rightfully suspect.

Has anyone heard anything new about a new edition of this movie possibly getting a release soon? I still have yet to buy this on DVD as every year I'm hoping something better will come along and yet it never ever seems to happen :(

Doesn't look like it's happening this year, unless Disney was to put it out really close to Halloween and that is rather unlikely. I guess it's "maybe next year" once again for this and Ichabod & Mr. Toad.

Well, in any case, it's not OOP at my local Sam's Club. It's the same release, but does include a Disney Movie Rewards code. (Sam's is selling it for $8.88.)

I also noticed the OOP Disney release of Something Wicked This Way Comes (repackaged with a Halloween candy bag) alongside it as well. Same price too, so if you guys are hunting for these DVDs, they're pretty cheap.

DMC has a version out for Halloween that has a new cover or slip cover that they are offering on their website for club members.
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

I purchased Something Wicked this way comes and Watcher in the Woods at Costco with a trick or treat bag last week. They also had Hocus Pocus with the bag, but I already had that movie. This week I didn't seem them anymore.

Also, they came with DMR points.

Has anyone spotted Something Wicked This Way Comes on store shelves in Canada? This is one title I want to add to my library but it keeps eluding me, even on the DMR website. I saw some Disney titles wrapped with trick or treat bags at Walmart (like Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad), but haven't seen Something Wicked in amongst them.

I just ordered it from Amazon.com and they told me yesterday that it shipped.

Hi there, had this thread on bookmark for about a year! I finally registered because I can't believe this movie does not have a special edition or bluray out yet!!!!! I heard it was supposed to come out last year and didn't. I assume this year is a "no go" as well. I wonder what the hold up is? A rights issue perhaps? I keep hoping every year that a special edition will finallllly emerge. I have tweeted Kathy Najimy and Bette Midler hoping they could help but never get a response.

The new "sleeve" that was made last year, was all the same stuff on it? Just "repackaged?" Same menu as the other hocus pocus dvd etc?

That's splendid news! :)

And it seems Pete's Dragon is getting a release as well soon. Surprisingly before Bedknobs and Broomsticks AND Mary Poppins... :?
