Back to topic.
As far as Disney Princesses go: definitly Beauty and the Beast, the love story had so much depth and realism to it. I like how instead of having Beast push and push constantly for Belle to fall for him, the Beast had already pretty much given up and accepted his dark side by the time he met Belle. Belle had to see some form of humanity in Beast in order for the relationship to go anywhere and when she finally did, it gave Beast hope again and from their it was nothin but lovin all the way!
non Disney Princess: I guess that would have to be Lady and the Tramp. The film is all around a love story
I was gonna pick one where the romance wasnt central to the plot of the story but I couldnt think of one (they all have their flaws) so I will make note of my second place non Disney Princess couple which is The Aristocats. Weird choice I know but I loved the chemistry between Duchess and Thomas. I like how Thomas had to be more 'family-friendly' toward his approach with Duchess as she had kids present. Lol cute.
Pixar: Wall-E. No contest here.
Sequel romance: hmm...I dunno but I did like the set up in Mulan 2 where the Gang of 3 fell in love with the three princesses. It provided an interesting plot twist and made Mulan and Shang's romance even more complicated.

The Most Romantic Disney Princess Film
Cinderella actually may be the most romantic Disney film. For me it is, and in the romantic sense, the dreamy, passionate, magical sense of the word, it is. The romantic style and yes, the love itself. Not that Beauty and the Beast can't beat it with feeling more like real or deep, powerful love to some viewers, but when it comes to the word romantic, it's Cinderella, whose magical romance is powerful, too. Unless Beauty and the Beast's love is more romantic in perhaps a different sense of the word I am thinking, but I don't know, maybe I have to watch it again and really try to feel it. But I think it's still honestly Cinderella.
So, I was looking for a video of "So This is Love" to post in here, one with a very pink background, because it looked the most beautiful and romantic version of the scene to me. I was going to talk about, like 2009net said, it's more romantic than a talking teapot singing about others, being a song with the word love in it sung by the lovers themselves and how they feel. But then I found a version of the song recorded by Disney of a brother and sister who I guess were known for their voices. It was incredible, beautiful.
Their voices were more light and angelic, trying to reach heaven which is really what the song lyrics and visuals in the film suggest. Listening to it, I remembered why even this song, which kind of bored me when I was little, still felt warm, magical, and wonderful to me as a kid. But this time I also felt like I would cry, if more because I was imagining dancing with the boy I came closest to being in love with.
I'm ALL aglow...and NOW I KNOW, the KEY to ALL HEAVEN...IS MINE. My HEART HAS WINGS, AND I CAN FLY...I'LL TOUCH EVERY STAR IN THE SKY...So this is the MIRACLE...THAT I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF....
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ai0t0-diAZo&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ai0t0-diAZo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I do not mind thinking I may like that version better than the original. Perhaps instructions on telling the original voice actors to sing more floaty and heavenly would make me like the original better. But this new recording would be nothing without the original lyrics, melody, notes, and instruments, and the original visuals go best with the song. But, for the film, I still prefer the original because Cinderella isn't Cinderella without Ilene Woods and the feeling the original had.
Actually, listening again, I think the original voices sang more seriously/like it was actually happening to them, especially Ilene. The way she sings "love", she means business!
So here is the original version, which I listened to to see if it was anything like how I felt for the other one. I found one with the unrestored pinker background that sounded very old and Cinderella sounded quieter, softer, more child-like. But then I found video with the, I guess, original recording of the song in perfect audio quality. It reminded me why I love the original Cinderella's voice, so mature, so in control, and there is a bit of sexuality or sensuousness in her singing of the song. She also sings more down to earth and matter-of-factly. But once again the lyrics were wonderful, saying love is like heaven, and I once again felt the old, mystical feeling. This was a beautiful video, too. The glass slipper let her keep her love. Does anyone know if this is how the song would sound in the film's original, perfectly restored soundtrack?

Then, I also thought about this:
Cinderella and the Prince sharing a moonlit walk, playing with fountain water, is kind of like Belle and the Beast sharing a book and playing with the snow...
It's just that Cinderella and the Prince knew they would love each other right away!

I agree, Duster. There's a romantic brilliance to the film, expressed in its visuals. I also think that it has a very idealistic vision of love.
Thinking about it...
Have you noticed that the first three Disney Princess stories have the princesses and princes falling in love the minute they meet? I like to believe that this is a sign of the times. I may be wrong, but maybe in those years people had an idealistic, romantic vision of love, that love at first sight COULD happen and last forever.
Meanwhile, in the modern princess films, the lead characters don't fall in love right away. In Little Mermaid, Ariel just has a crush, but Eric doesn't notice her, and he is only infatuated over her voice. Belle and Beast, well, hated each other, until an act of kindness changed them. Aladdin and Jasmine also took a while to grow, though it grew faster than the other characters. Heck, even Tiana and Naveen can't stand each other, and have to go on an adventure to realize it.
Maybe its because nowadays people believe that love happens over time, that love at first sight is an idea, not a reality, and thus the modern princess films reflect that.
But still, all princess films get criticized for having an idealistic version of love, and people see that as being damaging.

Disney reflected all those ideas in the film "Enchanted" and they created a princess which leaves her world of fantasy to enter the real world and find out that love at first sight is not real...or maybe the message of the film is that both ways of finding love are possible...because the prince marries nancy at the end, and that was love at first sight...pap64 wrote: Maybe its because nowadays people believe that love happens over time, that love at first sight is an idea, not a reality, and thus the modern princess films reflect that.

And about disney´s most romantic moments, I must say that for me the most romantic scene would be the "if never knew you" musical scene from the film Pocahontas...that scene is very powerful and shows very well the intensity of the feelings of the characters

I agree with "Cinderella". It's quite simply the most romantic Disney movie of them all. Disney Duster summed up the main reasons why, so I don't have to go back into that. The romance nicely carries on through "Cinderella III: A Twist in Time"; that scene on the boat where the Prince manages to rescue Cindy just as she's being deported is simply lovely.
I'll also put in strong cases for "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid".

I must admit that I'm a sucker for the couples who have to work to be together, it doesn't just fall into their laps. I loved Cinderella 3 because of this, she had to work to be with him and him with her.
Beauty and the Beast would be my favorite love story, they became friends and eventually fell in love. It wasn't love at first sight, she saw him for the man he was inside, not out and it was beautiful.
I also adore the love story in Brother Bear 2, it's just really pretty and I felt the chemistry on screen in their voices, weird I know, but it works for me.

Yeah, I have to throw in my vote for the talking teapot sequence, if we're talking about "romance" from the point of view that it means the "most fanciful," etc.. That song attaches the whole "soul mates" or star-crossed lovers idea to it, which is the reason so many people found that part of the movie romantic, I think.Cordy_Biddle wrote: I'll also put in strong cases for "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid".
Also, Mrs. Potts is reflecting on the way love is/has been through history and how Belle and beast are experiencing it for themselves now, which ultimately makes the song romantic. And then the kiss of true love makes the happy ending--very romantic film in that sense (even if it is in SB and SW, too).
Though, thinking about it, the colors, mood, sound and scenery to "A Whole New World" would make it a serious contender.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

The Most Romantic Disney Princess Film
Thank you pap.
OMG PAP I just realized you wrote, "Real love also involves sacrifice, whether it be changing your personality in order to appeal to your loved one". WHAT? Isn't your personality who you are?! Or is personality something different that is not all of your soul? I actually never thought your personality was all of your soul but certainly a big part of who you truly were. Maybe not. But that's why I have a bit of a problem with Beauty and the Beast. The Beast changes so much and then she loves him...but he was said to have kindness in him underneath all along.
Back to what you said about idealistic love in the 50's, it's really nice to think that in the 50's people really were, or thought, that romantic.
By the way, I feel that Ariel and Eric could have loved each other from the start, but maybe you're right, and I did wonder if the three days they spent together formed real love.
I like to believe that love at first sight can still happen in real life. If you must, I could understand seeing people, and feeling something, and then when you meet and talk and get to know each other, then you fall in real life, but the first sight was the start of it.
I suppose working for and developing love over time can be more romantic than falling in love already at first sight, but I do not think disliking each other or feeling nothing for each other at first meeting is romantic at all! I know many real lovers may not like each other or feel much at first meeting but it's certainly not the most romantic!
For the record, Cinderella and the Prince do not declare they are in love until after a while of dancing, though they do feel something at first sight and it could have been love right away, but I just realized this: Aurora did not love Phillip at first sight, it was after his singing her song, playing, and being persistent. In fact, Snow White ran away from her handsome prince at first sight, it wasn't until he sang his love that she fell for him. Both of these princes watched or heard what the princess was doing before they declared their love, and then the princesses fell for them after what they did. Okay, I admit, they could have been feeling love all the while they moved away from the princes after seeing them, which...I would love...
Divinity, I would like to know what in the lyrics of Beauty and the Beast suggests they are soul mates or star-crossed lovers (by the way, I read that star-crossed actually means star-thwarted, as Romeo and Juliet were thwarted by the stars, though I also thought crossed meant they were put together, but think of double-crossing).
By the way, if that is the kind of thing that is romantic to you, falling in love at first sight because you are meant to be, you are star-matched soul mates, make more sense to me than not liking each other at first when you are supposed to be soul mates! But I know he had anger and spoiltness thrown on top of his soul...?
To me the song is powerful because, I dunno, just the music and visuals and feeling and also the stuff about how they learn and bend and the sun rises and stuff. Now that I think about it, can it even be a love song when they don't know they love each other until afterward...?!
As for A Whole New World, I see similarities between that and So This is Love, visual wise...it made me wonder if it was homage.

When I first read the title of this Beauty and the Beast came to mind. But then I thought about it. It is romantic but it's not the most romantic. I mean think about it. It's a girl who is so scared of this man/creature that she runs away and only over time does she finally change him enough to become good enough for her. Sure it was inside him all along but it's just not that romantic (at least from a guys point of view). I personally think Aladdin is the most romantic. Aladdin falls for her as soon as he sees her, but only for her looks. Then he really gets to know her and realizes she is beautiful inside and out. After that he finds out she is a princess and deems himself unworthy, but she doesn't care. She loves him for who he is already. He tries to change himself to be with her, but he learns that he only needed to be himself all along. That's who she fell in love with. I think that's romantic. Loving someone so much that you try to change. But love doesn't need to change. Love breaks all those moulds. I truly think Aladdin is the most romantic.
