PUT THIS KIND OF STUFF ON THE NEW DVD DISNEY!
If Disney was smart - which I very sadly doubt these days - I'd love to see Omri Katz, Thora Birch and Vinessa Shaw reunited for a featurette or even audio commentary. Now that would be very fun for the fans!
I find it so odd they used that trailer for the VHS. I know they often make trailers before the final cut of the movie, so sometimes scenes get cut that may have been in the trailer, but the movie was finished, released to theaters and going to home video, you'd think they'd edit a new trailer to reflect that, but I guess not. Either way, it would be nice to see the full scenes.
When the film came out, I bought the junior novelization which was written based on the script, so it includes all of the deleted scenes, such as the witches at the school pool and a scene where they try to lure the children with candy and fail.
I remember lots of featurettes being played on Disney Channel to promote the film with great behind the scenes glimpses, including the three witches getting hooked up to their flying rigs. What I'm getting at is Disney has lots of archived goodies that could easily be put together as bonus features without even making anything new. Their lazyness with Hocus Pocus astounds me. I know it wasn't a hit in theaters, but it has built up a huge following through TV and video.
Hopefully they aren't waiting to make it a 10 year anniversary edition... 2013 is too long of a wait. I still have this on my PVR that I recorded off the Family Channel three years ago which unfortunately is P&S. Until this movie gets the proper treatment on disc... that'll have to do.
"According to information dispatched by Disney's Customer Service, there are tentative plans for a new, 16:9-enhanced DVD edition of Hocus Pocus to arrive in 2010. The 1993 Halloween comedy has been a perennial strong seller for Disney since coming to disc in 2001."
From the main page today.
Let's hope Disney remembers that people like bonus content on their DVDs now a days. I wonder if the title is such a good seller will we get a Blu-ray release too?
I heard that director Kenny Ortega wants to remake 'Hocus Pocus' with the HSM kids. Ashley Tisdale will play Winnie, and Lucas Grabeel is in line for Sarah.

I would pay to see that, providing Alyson Reed co-starred as Mary.
Additionally, I really hope that next year's release is on Blu-ray as well. I'd love to have an anamorphic cleaned-up edition, but I sure as hell am not going to buy the next DVD release then the Blu-ray two years from now.

Yah. There's no way I'll upgrade mine except for a Blu-ray.
Me too... just a good anamorphic transfer with maybe some behind the scenes features. I remember watching a behind the scenes featurettes about the special effects in the movie in my junior high library in the late 1990s.
Since this obviously won't be a two-disc set (*sigh*), I hope the new Hocus Pocus gets the same quality treatment as Newsies did: new commentary, trio of featurettes (two old, one new), storyboard-to-film comparison, and trailers. I wouldn't mind seeing the deleted scenes (since some are featured in the trailer), but I won't pull my hair out if if they're not included.

Trailer? I doubt will get that.
Maybe Disney will release a bare bones DVD, but a Blu-ray with director's commentary, deleted scenes and so forth to encourage HP fans to go to the new format and force everyone here to continue the circular debates about Disney's vile Blu-ray practices.
I picked this up at Best Buy a few weeks ago for $5.00 on DVD - just to get the vintage Snow White poster - and I think the only way I would buy a new version of this would be if they released it on Blu-Ray.

And let's not forget the all-important Digital Copy. And the standard DVD version, so that they can announce the three-disc "Hocus Pocus" release.

And a concurrent Blu-Ray release would be nice as well.
Anything new on this release will be gladly accepted (given the fact the last and only release was bare bones) and I hope something is added that concerns the movie such as the deleted scene and behind the scenes and hopefully not anything the way they did to that involves Wizards of Waverly Place the way they did with Bedknobs and Broomsticks re-release earlier this year (although I wouldn't hold my breath or put it past Disney that's what they are planning or considering)
