I'm not sure if anyone has noticed on the Diamond Edition of Snow White how some of the features were *'ed "Classic DVD Feature." I think Disney is going to be using a lot of new bonus features for these Diamond Editions rather than just porting everything over from the Platinum Editions.

I personally like the idea, I mean, there really isn't a point in having a Platinum Edition and a Diamond Edition with the same bonus features. It makes sense that a couple of the features are ported over, but that a majority of the bonuses are new. To the people who missed out on the Platinum Editions bonus features, better luck next time.

I took out the date off the topic of the thread because I do not want anyone to get mixed up. I will add the date back once it is confirmed by Disney themselves. :)

I appreciate the idea as well. For someone who loves extra features, it's sometimes quite boring or disappointing to buy your favourite movie on Blu-ray expecting tonnes of new content but instead stuck with everything you've seen and owned on the older DVD.

It gives you an incentive to hold onto the previous DVD too...something I don't normally do anymore because I hate doubling up on titles.

i'm wondering if the imax print was not intentionally brightened for theaters because it was such a large screen that they felt certain details would be lost if they didn't (especially with the horrible lighting some theaters have). obviously when doing the 3d version they would you the same brightened one since it was already ready. i'm wondering however if the original cap files will not be used for the diamond edition when they do their "restoration" of sorts... they will most likely call it a restoration.. and looking at the clips in the newer princess and the frog featurettes.. (see the ones on rotten tomatoes posted this week) they are no longer the bright yellow-ish material (especially look at the "podcast one" and note that when belle is singing in the town with the book in her hands, the sky is no longer yellow.. it's white) we had seen before. i'm assuming that the trailer used the old imax print just because it was finished and ready. so we could end up seeing a true colored beauty and the beast on blu-ray... what those true colors are we aren't for sure but i bet that what we get on the diamond edition will be the correct colors.
Film projection uses pretty bright lights anyway, so additional brightening of the movie would only make it even brighter, especially on a big IMAX screen. I doubt they would do that for that reason.
You'd also have to wonder why that wouldn't be a problem for The Lion King and Aladdin, both of which look exactly like the earlier versions when colors are concerned.

I'm currently not making it a rule to pick up Blu-Rays for any Platinum/Diamond Editions, because I don't yet have a player, but I do believe that when the B&TB Diamond Edition is out, I'll be buying it on both formats. B&TB is my favorite film, and I'll probably have a Blu-Ray one of these days, and when I do, I definitely want B&TB on Blu, if no other Disney film. And if that trailer doesn't have me excited, idk what could do it. :D

I thought the Beauty and the Beast trailer was glorious. You could see the texture of the background art, something I've never seen before.

The only issue I have with the ad is the tag line calling it "The Most Acclaimed Animated Film of All Time". That's false. Just because 1991 was a weak year for film and Beauty and the Beast snuck into a Best Picture slot - that does not make it the most acclaimed animated film of all time. In point of fact, as the years have worn on, the flaws in the film have become only more and more apparent.

I will be so happy if this gets released in the Spring.
I liked the idea of CAPS + branching workprint on Disc 2(They'll promote the Special Edition), the original version is #1 on my wishlist for this set. I haven't owned this movie since the VHS, and I don't have a VCR anymore, so I will be really excited to see it in HD for the first time.

I think the workprint has a good chance of being the first to be left off. And if it's included, it shouldn't be branched with anyhting, but get a separate disc (like the Blade Runner set). The original version and special edition can easily be branched and put together on the same disc, they did it with the Platinum Edition too.

I don't really care about the workprint, but I'm more concerened about colors for overly-discussed reasons, and they would be different on the original and special edition. I don't think we'll be getting more than 2 Bu-rays, which reminds me that I still have to finish watching the special features on Blade Runner.

Just because something is flawed doesn't mean it can't be acclaimed.

so i saw this dumb argument on blu-ray.com between a member and another one (who claimed to be interning at disney) who posted this link..

http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/beauty-a ... beast.html

now, i had not been there, so this photo and the others may have been up, and i now it is now pushed back a year BUT i'm assuming THIS is what the colors should look like, and with the quality they are presented in, I would not be surprised if these were screencaps of the original CAPS files.

Can't wait for February 12th. I never got to see this movie in theaters.

Looks like Disney is making a gigantic leap, in the theater world.

While Disney's Home Entertainment website still has an active page that says February 12th, Walt Disney Studios website took it off their release schedule (it was previously on there) and I believe it was Don Hahn in a recent interview who said that they decided to push it back to December 2011, which is the film's 20th anniversary, to make it feel more like an event.

Also, the fact that they decided to have a trailer for the Blu-Ray release with no mention of it's theatrical outing on the Snow White Diamond Edition is a good indication that the Blu-Ray is coming out before the 3D theatrical run.

That really doesn't make sense to do that. I hope they don't push back BATB to 2011 just because of the anniversary! :(

Zany old Disney do that all the time.
Fantasia isn't being released on BluRay until it's 70th Anniversary,
with its DVD being out in 2000 for the 60th.

It only dawned on the me the other day while watching the DVD
that the Little Mermaid was 20 years old this year.

Let's hope they don't use Disney logic and wait till 2019 to bring Little Mermaid out for her 30th.

You didn't hear it from me,
but ( after Dumbo ) Alice In Wonderland is the next Plantinum Bluray
It'll be out the end of November 2010, a little after B&TB and just in time to coincide with Tim Burton's Alice Bluray release.
And just in time for Christmas!
Delightful.

Crazy old Disney, Hmmm. Crazy Old Disney, Hmmm.

Actually with regards to The Little Mermaid as it stands at the moment, it's next release should be around Fall 2013 and I can see this release being labelled "A 25th Anniversary Edition" despite being a year early, Disney do it all the time I mean Sleeping Beauty's release last year was labelled a "50th Anniversary" when it's 50th wasn't until this year!
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

Well that was expected, but yay :D

2010 will be a great release year for disney. BD: dumbo, alice, beauty and the beast, fantasia, princess and the frog. DVD: great mouse detective, black cauldron and all of the above.

I have a soft spot for four of those already.

You're right, I didn't hear it from you because it's been heavily rumored, but it won't be a Platinum Blu-Ray because the Platinum Editions are done (and it won't be Diamond Either). Just a "Special Edition" like Dumbo.

But again, that is just a plausible rumor. Disney hasn't announced it yet.
