Perhaps a more annoying issue with the Peter Pan DVD is its baffling softness. I remember it looking soft back when we still had our 29" CRT TV. Goodness knows what it would look like now on our 50" Plasma. I'm not looking forward to find out.

I agree with goofystitch! The colors on the Peter Pan platinum are just fine the way they are, and probably more accurate than we've seen in many years!
By the way... back on the subject of the Snow White DVD... does anyone know if we're getting most of the same bonuses that the Blu-Ray got?

somehow i kind of like the soft look.... anyhow thankfully i dont think this will be a problem with the blu-ray as shown in the SB blu-ray.

Back to Snow White: the dvd only version comes out in australia on wednesday (14th). So you guys should be able to know what bonus features are missing if any by next week... actually isn't the dvd-only version available in other places around the world?

Apart from the delay in the States, I believe the "Snow White" BD and DVD versions are being released together in all other countries.

I thought that was the case too until yesturday, when I realised that the Blu-Ray was being released on the 2nd whilst the DVD isn't due for release until the 9th (of November that is!)

Agreed, if I do pre-order (rather than waiting till later to purchase-I will either do one or the other) the Blu-Ray that will come 7 days before the DVD, so I think because I don't even own a BD Player I will watch the DVD version of the movie and any bonus features that are on the disc. Then I will probably re-watch it when my 2 Disc DVD arrives a week later and then I will be able to investigate the Disc 2 Features which I'm looking forward to doing!

I wouldn't take it personally, Margos. It's just whenever the topic of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs comes up, there's endless questions about it (usually from Deco King ), so at this point in the year, any further questions will likely be met by annoyed responses.

As far as we know, the DVD version will likely be a direct port of the Blu-Ray, minus the Blu-exclusive stuff (DisneyView, BD-Live games). If they were to drop anything, I would think it's the "Classic DVD Features" section ("Disney Through the Decades", "Animation Voice Talent", "Heigh-Ho Sing Along", and "Dopey's Wild Mine Ride"), as it would be redundant for anyone who has the Platinum, and I can see Disney wanting to promote a new release (even if it's a quiet DVD release seven weeks after the Blu-Ray) as having all-new material. And given that "Snow White Returns" and the two deleted scenes aren't on the first disc of the DVD in the Blu-Ray packages, those are either being moved to the second disc of the DVD, or possibly BD-exclusives.

I'd hate if any of the material in "Hyperion Studios" were dropped. Altogether, it's a little over three hours (that's counting all the featurettes and bonus shorts), so if "Classic DVD Features" were dropped and "Snow White Returns" and the deleted scenes are included, the total runtime for disc two would be about 200 minutes. Too free up space on the disc, they could drop the bonus Silly Symphony, Mickey Mouse, and Pluto shorts, as those total up to about 68 minutes.

I've got nothing against the shorts ("Steamboat Willie", "The Skeleton Dance", and "Music Land" are some of my favourites), it's just that if I buy a DVD about a movie like Snow White, I'd prefer if the special features included are directly related to the film, rather than it having a semi-connection. After all, as great as the short is, would one really need to watch "Steamboat Willie" in the Special Features simply because a soundbyte in the featurette says it was the first animated short with synchronised sound? I mean, yeah, I get how the whole idea of the "Hyperion Studios" section is to trace the evolution of the studio and how it all led to the creation of Snow White, but I don't see the need to watch "Music Land" because Albert Hurter's visual style was used in the development of Snow White. I'd actually rather see some of the WWII material that feature the Dwarfs (like "Seven Wise Dwarfs" and "The Winged Scourge") as they're more directly related to Snow White than "Playful Pluto".

It's like buying a "Doctor Who" DVD and getting a documentary about the use of blood in different cultures, just because the story has blood in it. (DW fans will know what I'm talking about ).

I really couldn't care less about Dopey's Mine Ride, but I wish they would keep as much else as possible intact...

Don't get me wrong, I like them too! I especially loved when Disney included the animated short that played in theatres before the film for DVDs like Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, etc. In the "Hyperion Studios" feature, though, half the shorts included seems like filler to me. If I were to pick a few that seemed *essential* to the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, they'd probably be "Babes in the Woods", "The Goddess of Spring", and "The Old Mill".

I *loved* "A Diamond in the Rough". It's probably my favourite Disney DVD documentary (well, documentary plus ancillary featurettes).

Yep, I'd have to agree with that. If they did have to remove some of the bonus shorts for the DVD release, these are the three that I would choose to keep as well. The others aren't quite as relevant.
"The Goddess of Spring" and "The Old Mill" are two of my favorite Silly Symphonies, so I would be rather upset if they weren't included!

The german release date of all (DVD- and Blu-ray-)versions was the 8. october and finally I found someone who bought the 2-Disc-DVD instead of the Blu-ray. The german DVD is missing the whole Hyperion Feature except for "The One That Started It All".

Hmm... I wonder if the menu system on the Hyperion Studios feature was too hard/impossible to replicate on DVD? That is the only non-evil reason I can think of why Disney would leave it off.

hyperion studios was also dropped on the R4 dvd only release.

to be fair, barely any of the PE bonus features appeared on the VHS.

Kinda wished that the blue-ray would've added the silent film verison of Snow White as a honorable bonus.

the R3 2disc is out and is identical to the german dvd minus the german rendition.what a letdown

This kind of puts things into perspective as to why the dvd-only version is released 7 weeks later and why it is merely labeled '2-disc edition' rather than 'diamond'.

the least this new 2 disc could do is slap the original 'making of' from the previous PE instead of the worthless disney through the decades. now this new 2 disc feels obsolete.
