Wow, I finally found them. I thought I imagined these talking Mickey and Goofy animatronics from when I was a kid, my parents told me they broke, but now I found out they really did exist. My parents must have spent a lot on these. Here's a video of them in action (Mickey's upper mouth isn't working):

And here's the Wiki page giving you the lowdown of them:

I'm soo excited to see these guys, it brings back memories. Its from the people who made the talking Teddy Ruxpin and Snoopy. Why haven't they released a more advanced Mickey animatronic yet? These were released forever ago and the tech for some affordable yet spectacular animatronics has got to be there. I always loved these as a kid because it was like a mini-Disney World vacation seeing these guys in action.

Mine is on a shelf in my room, and I suspect it still works like new (it looks like new for the most part. I have him dressed in one of two alternate outfits I had for him, the Sorceror's apprentice costume. I'm not sure how many costumes they made and separately sold in total, but I have that one, the outfit he came in, and a nighttime outfit for him. Still have tapes and books for him too. I sooo wish I had gotten the Goofy too, but I never did. I think, like many toys, there was a very short window for buying these.

Thanks, jpanimation, for posting this! It's always fun to see products you don't see anymore. Did you need the Goofy to read all the stories? I was looking at the wiki page you linked to and it describes many stories that included both Mickey and Goofy. Also, did you have to synch Mickey and Goofy up with separate tapes for them to work properly? I'm really intrigued how the two toys work together.
Also, you bring up a very good point...how come they haven't released a more advanced version? I know they have the Pal Mickey's in WDW, but they don't even move, just talk. They should bring back that technology and put it in Pal Mickey, then I'd be more than willing to pay the high cost for a cuddly, talking Mickey like that.
I never had this specific Mickey talking toy, but I did have a TV Teddy!! I guess it was the next technological step after book and tape Teddy Ruxpin and friends. I remember I got him in 1st grade for Christmas. The day or 2 days after Christmas we went to Boscovs and they had a HUGE display of the toy and I was like "Mom, Dad, look at all the TV Teddy's!" I remember they weren't surprised and in awe like I was, but upset and annoyed because the lovable talking teddy was marked down a lot for the after Christmas sale.
TV Teddy:

My cousin also had a Teddy Ruxpin like toy that was Mother Goose and you would put tapes in her side under her wing and she would tell you stories.

Didn't they have some Interactive ones at the Disney Stores some time back? I think they might have even had interactive Lady and the Tramp, and of course they have the Wall-E and Eve ones now, and a big Buzz Lightyear...
Anyway, I only have Mickey, but you can play all the tapes with just him. Goofy takes part, so it's weird that his voice comes from nowhere, ha, but so do other voices in the stories, if I remember correctly, plus the music... I think that Goofy comes with a cord that connects him to Mickey, and I'm not sure if he played tapes at all, which would make Mickey necessary. Not sure if that is at all accurate though.
