I'm sorry, but I just think such a question is a very sad commentary on the sorry state our over-consumptious society is in nowadays. We're now discussing which piece of electronic crap is better. I find that funny, I'm sorry.PeterPanfan wrote:Seriously, a nice member of the forum was asking a simple question. There is no need for you to come in here and criticize him for that. Thanks.
What's better to have?
I dearly love my iPod, but I'm more of a TV-watcher than I am a music-listener... so I'm gonna have to say go for the Blu-ray player!
I don't have surround sound either but the picture alone is worth it!
(and Blu-rays are really cheap on amazon).

But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

Okay, well considering I am healthy, have food on the table and clothes on my body as well as friends and family in addition to a good education I don't feel like I should have to come on to such a friendly forum and ask a simple question and be criticized for it. Personally, I don't recall ever having a conversation with you, so I find it especially rude that you come in here and have a sarcastic attitude with me. You claim you can't help me? Then why post a response of this nature at all?Goliath wrote:What's better to have?
Your health. Food on the table. Clothes on your body. Friends. Family. A good education. Peace.
Oh, the question was about luxuruous crap nobody needs? Sorry, can't help you there.
Thanks, DanPeterPanfan wrote:Seriously, a nice member of the forum was asking a simple question. There is no need for you to come in here and criticize him for that. Thanks.
Do you know anything about me? Anything? Chances are you don't. Our "over-consumptious society" and a question about which "piece of electronic crap" people prefer are two completely different topics. If I had wanted to start a discussion about our society I very well could have. But I didn't. I simply wanted people's opinions on which device they thought would come in handy more. Just because I posted a topic about iPods and Blu-Ray players does not mean I find our "over-consumptious society" less important. Thanks.Goliath wrote:I'm sorry, but I just think such a question is a very sad commentary on the sorry state our over-consumptious society is in nowadays. Now then, I would like to thank everyone who had something to say about this and was able to help me in a kind manner.
It's still a toss-up for me. Many people are saying the iPod, and as much as I love my music I find myself watching TV quite a lot! There's a great chance that I'll go for the iPod, since (like people said) Blu-Ray players and discs will go down in price. Heck, if I get that job at Big Y I'll get money, and maybe I can find a player on sale for cheap either on Black Friday or during an after-Christmas sale!

I think it would be wise to consider the type of forum this is, as it specifically revolves around Disney DVD's and now Blu-Rays as well. And given that many iPods play video that can either be ripped from these discs or pulled from a digital copy, this forum seems more than an appropriate place to ask such a question.
Maybe it seems our society is quick to take the things we need for granted, but there's really nothing wrong with wanting to indulge in a few "unecessary" extras when we can afford them. This is basically a site that revolves around these specific indulgences so I really don't understand why such a criticism was made here.
