Incidentally, with respect to the lack of features on the Blu-Ray that were on the DVD, I can't imagine it being done out of an intention to pull a double-dip as much as I feel that Disney probably honestly does not think that there is a significantly enough audience out their for their products that care about these special features. Snow White was a fantastic Platinum Edition but it seemed that the Platinum Editions got worse (special features wise) with each installment (perhaps with the exception of Aladdin). Perhaps Disney honestly doesn't think enough people care.

I know I'm probably alone in this, but I have to confess that my interest in picking up the Snow White Blu-Ray today has slightly less to do with the movie itself as much as the few Silly Symphonies cartoons included in full HD. "The Skeleton Dance" and "The Old Mill" defined my childhood and so I can't miss the opportunity to see them in HD.

Don't quote me on this, because I'm not 100% sure but I would say no. The only reason being that they seem to have different covers, though the actual content of the book itself could be the sameThe Little Merboy wrote:I was wondering the same thing.MikeyMouse wrote:Does anyone know if the book contained in the $40 combo set is the same or different than the book included in the uber-expensive ultimate collector set?

I know they look different from their photographs, but I'm curious as to whether or not the contents are the same. The Little Merboy wrote:I was wondering the same thing.MikeyMouse wrote:Does anyone know if the book contained in the $40 combo set is the same or different than the book included in the uber-expensive ultimate collector set?
I would also like to know wether it's the same book as the book I got with my Platinum Edition, though the cover (and from the looks of it) and size is different, it was called "Snow White: An Art in the Making" and features concept art and production stills from the movie

Picked it up at Best Buy today, $3.33 was my total
Seriously, if you pre-ordered it just for the steelbook, but had no intention of picking up the Blu, pick it up anyway. You can't beat that price and I'm sure you'll get double or triple that on eBay! The case is the same sized one Pinocchio used, I really like the small one Sleeping Beauty came in as it felt more solid, but this one is fine. Testing out the magic mirror as we speak.
All I can say is
Queue KISS song Lick it Up but replace lyrics with PICK IT UP!!!

Just came back from Toys R Us and was so excited to post how much I paid but jpanimation beat me!
So the next time Toys R Us states, "FREE gift card with pre-order", it actually IS free. My total came out to 6.31 and I got a gift card too. I asked the lady if I could use the gift card towards my purchase but she said no.
I only wish I pre-ordered two copies to sell one in the future!

Well, I didn't include the $7.50 I paid to pre-order it because I just counted that as paying for the steelbook. You got a great deal too and I'm sure everyone else is getting a great deal. Nothing to complain about there. I was just saying that if they pre-ordered it at Best Buy for the steelbook, then they can pick the movie up for $3.33 (pricematch, coupon, pre-order). Even if you already bought it somewhere else and only pre-ordered for the steelbook, for that price, buy a spare or eBay copy.

Thank you for such an in depth review; it was a joy to read. Job well done
I did want to ask though ... and sorry if this is already a known fact ... will there be a review of the DVD release of the film ?
I have just been doing a bit of research on the DVD over here in the UK, and as far as I can tell, what we are getting is still called the 'Platinum Edition'. Now, is this a typo by all the major retailers ? Or is the Diamond Collection exclusivley for the Blu Ray line ? (Again forgive me if this is already a known fact). It does seem as if we have two different covers for DVD and Blu ---- is this the first time Disney has done this ?
And sorry for the ammount of questions !

I'm not sure if it's the same as over here in the U.S., but over here the Blu-Ray is being labeled as the "Diamond Edition" and the DVD is simply branded as a "2-Disc Set".atlanticaunderthesea wrote:I have just been doing a bit of research on the DVD over here in the UK, and as far as I can tell, what we are getting is still called the 'Platinum Edition'. My mom bought this today at Toys R Us and she was really confused as to which product to buy--and she wasn't the only one. She told me that just about everyone in the store who were purchasing it were confused as well. Luckily, I told her beforehand that she would probably get confused and to have her call me if she didn't know what to do. Of course, she called me and we got it all sorted out, but I think Disney really made a bad move on the two different packaging for the film. I watched about 20 minutes of it and it looks pretty good; I had the Disney View on it, and I don't know if this is what caused it or not, but in some parts of the film it seemed a little out of focus. Maybe I'm just seeing things but the animals in the first forest scene looked out of focus. It sounded great though, so no complaints in that department (I only listened to the 7.1 mix, though). I also watched Snow White Returns and it was a nice little feature. I hope to finish watching everything during this weekend cause I'm really busy during the week. Hopefully it'll be good, though I highly doubt it will be better than the Platinum Edition.

Don't see what all the confussion is about, now I haven't been in the store yet to pick up my copy: All most people should worry about, unless they're avid Disney fans and want bonus material, is which one has a DVD version of the movie, which is both versions. Some people might also want to know if there copy will be "upgrade safe" for when the time comes and they get a Blu-ray Player, which the answer again is any of the releases today. Now I don't know how Disney played it with the store displays and such, but all they really need to say is: All the releases are the same, they all contain a DVD and Blu-ray copy of the film. At the time, the bonus material is exclusive to Blu-ray. And both of the main releases are the SAME with different packaging. But I'll wait and see how it is tonight when I pick up my copy on my way into work (although I'm going to Future Shop, which caters mostly to the same market of people who already know about Blu-ray and High Def)
Now, my only confussion of the day is the stupid coupon, from Disney's website doesn't want to print. Anyone else having this problem.

I am. I'm hoping my boyfriend will be able to print it on his computer for me, because it didn't print the first time I tried it, and now it keeps saying I already printed the coupon and won't let me do so again. I've had problem with Coupon Printer application before. It's really more trouble than it's worth.MrIncredible wrote:Now, my only confussion of the day is the stupid coupon, from Disney's website doesn't want to print. Anyone else having this problem.

My copy of the Limited Edition Diamond Collector Set just came. I know somebody already posted photos of the German set, but I thought I'd share pictures of the US version.
Here is the unopened package front and back:

Here it is with the shrink wrap off. The box is lined in velvet with gold embossed writing:

This is what you see when you first open the set:

The envelope on top contains the certificate of authenticity and the 8 lithographs:

Here is the pin set:

The book is wonderful! It's 160 pages and is the real centerpiece of this set. Here it is next to the Blu-Ray so you can see how big it is:

The book is divided into three sections. They are The History, The Story, and The Legacy. The Story section is nicer than I thought it was going to be. It uses a mix of storyboard and concept art as well as stills from the film to tell the story. The Legacy is really neat as well. Here are some pictures from inside the book:

Overall, I'm really pleased with my decision to fork over the extra money for the collector's set.
