lol, I didn't think anyone really noticed me in the first place. I just sort of drifted away and got caught up in other things and have mainly just been reading the main page. I'll be on here more now I think.Escapay wrote:Oh my god, LUCYLOVER!!! Where have you been for the past year??!?!?! Are you gonna post on a regular basis again? For new releases, no. But for rereleases, that sounds pretty good. And it should make more today, since Friday is a school day. The Nightmare Before Christmas made $12 million in it's second (and much wider than first) 3D theatrical release in 2007, which was also over a 2-week run. I'm going to bet that Toy Story makes more than that by the time its done next week.ajmrowland wrote:Not very strong when you think about it.

Yeah, plus, the thing is 3 hours long, so there are fewer showtimes. Plus, most theaters equipped with 3D only have 1 3D theater, so that makes even less showtimes. So, for a rerelease that's 3 hours long, very well done Toy Story!goofystitch wrote:For new releases, no. But for rereleases, that sounds pretty good. Yeah, my threater is only showing it just 3x a day because its so long. Well, as you can tell my by username, I'm for sure seeing this. I'm going tomorrow. It's fitting because I'm going to the same theater I saw the first Toy Story back in 1995, and then again where I saw the second in 1999 (and you can bet, where I'll see the third in 2010)

I just got back from the 3rd and final showing of the day. The 3D was about as good as UP's: Not too gimmicky, but still noticeable.
My only real gripe is that it seems my theater intentionally lowered the volume. My Home Theater, while still lower than most cinema levels, beat this one out and I could hear ever subtle sound made in the audience, and most was not direct film-reaction.
On the plus side, the Intermission was well worth watching. Sure, much of it is on the DVDs and I've seen them a million times, but it was nice to see some fun facts, character design sketches, 1992 test, and some of the tv interstitials on the Big Screen. The Interstitials were boxed within an area of about 1/10th of the screen, give or take, and I realize they are SD content not meant for 2k resolution. However, there was cute 2D and shadow-puppet animation interspersed throughout. Definitely more effort went into this than into most intermissions. [/END SPOILER]

Forgot to mention that last night my brother and I went to see the double feature with a couple of friends.
It was a bit surreal to be seeing the movie in theatres, especially since I was 10 years old when I first saw Toy Story (at the exact same theatre too!) and now it was 14 years later and I was seeing it again, in 3-D to boot!
We all enjoyed it a lot, though during the Toy Story credits we rushed to concessions to get some food, and missed out on the first couple minutes of the Intermission part.
But watching the movies in 3-D was so much fun! It's much more natural than I expected it to be, and after awhile, I wasn't even focused on the novelty of it being in 3-D anymore, I was just having fun watching a familiar movie. Laughing at all the right places, "oh!"-ing at all the right places, making catty comments at all the right places. And the best part was, it was a theatre of people doing it too, not just some family members in the family room.
