Disney claims that the reason for pushing it back was so that the theatrical release would coincide with the 20th anniversary, thus making the release feel more special.
The news was announced in a Variety article.

Nice to hear the 3D re-release is still coming, although I may not be as inclined to go see it as I'll own it on Blu and have watched it recently (currently I don't own it so going to the theaters would've been special). If I was Disney I would put a 3D trailer in front of the Toy Story re-releases and Toy Story 3 as they're sure to have a big audience and it would get the word out early that traditional animation can look good in 3D.

Perhaps...but as for the Toy Storys 1 &2 in theaters on the 2nd of October but seeing how that the film is probably already ont eh way to the theaters that will show it on the 2nd so i wouldn't think they have footage for a 2011 announcment trailer...I am just glad that it will be released and it perhaps won't be a rushed job on the 3D.....jpanimation wrote:Nice to hear the 3D re-release is still coming, although I may not be as inclined to go see it as I'll own it on Blu and have watched it recently (currently I don't own it so going to the theaters would've been special). Maybe we could see somthing like a teaser trailer that really during Princess and teh Frog or Christmas Carol just says December 2011....and have the song Beauty and the Beast playing in the background and it wouldn't have to be a 3D trailer to advertise it if they wanted to make a trailer just to let people keep in mind the movie....
....ITS TODAY THE TOYS ARE BACK OMG CAN"T WAIT FOR SATURDAY!!!!
BTw not to get off topic but...ITS OCTOBER 2nd TODAY THE TOYS ARE OUT in the 3rd Dimension...not to be confused with the 7th dimension...or the infamous 20th diemension or Dimension X which has turtles as enemies

It's still unknown and I'm really confused about it all. The trailer for the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition says "Fall 2010," but somebody told me that the Snow White discs were pressed 2 months ago before it was changed. Some sources say that Beast will be the Spring release, but will actually come out in May instead of the usual March. Others say it is still Fantasia in March and Beast in October. And Disney's German home entertainment division says that Beast is coming in October and Fantasia is coming in December. The fact that the card inside of Snow White says Beast before Fantasia but doesn't give dates further adds to the confusion.Cordy_Biddle wrote:At the moment it looks like Disney is sticking to the previous dates; so March is the month we'll get "Fantasia"...GeorgeCauldron wrote:so, sorry, is Fantasia out in March 2010 or not?
It would be awfully nice of Disney to just anounce some release dates to clear up the confusion.

Thanks everyone.
Yeah it is a bit confusing.
I'd just like Fantasia as i'm sure it'll look lovely.
BATB already looks lovely on its Platinum Edition,
so I don't really need that right away.
The 60th anniversary edition Fantasia does look nice, but i'm curious to see how much better it will look since Snow White looks amazing.
and as for Christmas 2010 in Europe? whats that about?
Australia's usually worse that that, but whichever country gets it first i'm importing it.

Beauty and the Beast: Next Release
Thanks goofystitch. My, how you find out things.
Beauty and the Beast in 3D is STILL ON!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But after it's Diamond comes out...that's weird. I'm glad they'll have more time to 3-D it well, but...well, it really was the best movie, it's just then I wonder how it will feel with this Diamond release now. At least we don't have to worry about them trying to put the 3-D version on the Diamond now. And so they can more focus on having the original presentation of the film (ahem) and good bonus features...

Everyone keeps making a big fuss over "When will Beauty And The Beast be released ? When will Fantasia be released ? Which will be in Autumn and which will be in Spring ?"
I think it's important to remember though that this isn't the Platinum line anymore. Nobody said they were going to stick with their March and October release schedule. They may decide to release them at whichever point in the year they feel like they can best market them. If that means one in October and one in December, great. If it means one in Spring and one in Autumn, cool.
What we do have confirmation of is that 2010 will see Beauty And The Beast and Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 released as Diamond Editions. We also know that Disney has a very good habit of letting us know what is coming at least 5 or 6 months before it hits shelves. So for now we know Dumbo will get a Special Edition Blu-ray in February and I'm sure within the next month or two we will know which title is coming after Dumbo.

Acutally, my only concern is that Fantasia has not been available to buy for the last 9 years. 10 if it comes out next year.JDCB1986 wrote:Everyone keeps making a big fuss over "When will Beauty And The Beast be released ? So it should be first for re-release I should say.
BATB has had a 7 year rest, so why does Fantasia deserve 10?
It doesn't.
BATB came out in 2002, yeah, but Fantasia came out in 2000.
Even later in Australia. We got the DVD Febuary 2001.
We had Fantasia 2000 in cinemas January 2001.
That makes alot of sense doesn't it? Releasing it a year later here?
Since the movie is called Fantasia 2000....a bit silly...
So it's only fair Fantasia be re-released first.
Also, in Australia we didn't get the nice tidied up 60th Anniversary DVD release that the US got. No no. We got the 'looks like its copied straight from video' edited 85 minute version, not remastered and disgusting to watch.
Luckily, I imported the Region 1 Anthology which is un-cut (except for SunFlower) and remastered. Comparing the two is like comparing a dead cow to a supermodel.
It's not really a question of marketability either. They could have, and should have, released it again as a Disney Treasure. As Disney Treasures are for the fans.
You don't see 4 year olds running around saying
"Ooh I want the complete Silly Symphonies on DVD",
you see 55 year olds saying
"Oh, I remember that, that would be a good collectors item, I should buy that for my grandkids"
And i'm not 55, I just appreciate art when I see it.
If they had have made an overly collectible Disney Treasures release of Fantasia in a nice tin with commerative booklet, art cards, the works and charged $50, the truly appreciative would have bought it.
But no, they didn't.
So that's what i'm concerned about.
I want Fantasia. A proper Fantasia.
And since this BluRay is apparently coming, I'm interested to know when it will be available.
It's no longer a question of "when".
It's now a question of "why has it taken so long"

Beauty and the Beast: Next Release
George, there is a rumour that Fantasia getting pushed back will be used to allow Disney to do better, longer work on the restoration. Beauty and the Beast doesn't need any restoration work at all.

Unless they decide to make the colors more correct and the picture sharper and the sound better.Disney Duster wrote:George, there is a rumour that Fantasia getting pushed back will be used to allow Disney to do better, longer work on the restoration. No need for color correction if the original caps files are used like on Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, Mulan, Pocahontas, etc...

The only thing about the film itself that will need to be done for the Blu-Ray is a new audio mix because Disney seems committed to doing 7.1 surround mixes for these films. Otherwise, the previous versions of the film (work in progress, original theatrical and special edition) all exist in a computer somewhere and simply need to be transferred in 1080p. Although if it's a 2-disc Blu-Ray, there won't be room for that many versions of the film without using seamless branching, so the original theatrical version will most likely have all of the animation and color adjustments of the special edition.
That's not true.goofystitch wrote:Although if it's a 2-disc Blu-Ray, there won't be room for that many versions of the film without using seamless branching, so the original theatrical version will most likely have all of the animation and color adjustments of the special edition.
Pinocchio (which is only a couple of minutes shorter than Beauty And The Beast) took up approx. 22 GB of it's 50GB (actually about 46 GB) disc.
They could easily fit two versions of Beauty And The Beast on disc one and the third version on disc two, without using seamless branching and there would still be 90+ minutes of HD space left on the second disc.
Another option would be to put the Theatrical version and the Work In Progress version on disc one with seamless branching to save space and the Special Edition on disc two.
They could put all of the HD features on disc two since there would be more space left on it and put the SD features on disc one.
So in case anyone is confused...
DISC ONE
- Theatrical version (23 GB, give or take)
- Work In Progress version, using seamless branching (9 GB, give or take)
- SD special features
DISC TWO
- Special Edition (23 GB, give or take)
- HD special features
Only time will tell though.

You're forgetting that Pinocchio had black pillar boxes, Beauty and the Beast will likely fill the entire screen. So that will give it a bigger size. And of course they could seamless branch the two different versions. There's only a couple of different things. It can be done, if they want to.JDCB1986 wrote: That's not true.
