Yes, I'm pretty sure it's back to Oct. I think that's a wise decisionDisneyFreak5282 wrote:I guess I'm in the minority here when I say I like the new cover better. I feel like it would stand out more on the store shelf with the green and all, but who knows. I may pick this one up, but we'll see. P.S. - Is the album back on for the 13th? Amazon and Wiki still have it listed as (or changed it back to) October 13th. I know the earliest it will be available is October 9th in Germany and a few other countries.

If you guys don't mind, I am going to use this thread for Shakira discussion...
While I love Shakira, and hate to be a cliche, but I honestly liked Shakira better when she was this young folksy singer who used pop rock melodies to express sincere lyrics.
My first Shakira album was "Donde estan los ladrones", or "Where are the thieves". The first single was the catchy and captivating "Bruta Ciega Sorda Muda" (which means "Dumb, Blind, Deaf, Mute"
):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/opoOlBSVRvo&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/opoOlBSVRvo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I just love how it has a folksy feel to it but its extremely danceable. Its also quite a silly song in its lyrics. The video, as Shakira recalls, is about a city banning "fun", and capturing anyone that expresses free will and happiness.
Off the same album, she released "Inolvidable" ("Inevitable" in the english version):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/za7xpU8oEA0&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/za7xpU8oEA0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This song, once again, mixes pop rock melodies with the sincerity and humility of her lyrics. Its quite awesome.
Then there's the melancholic "Eres Tu" ("It's you"), a love song interpreted in Shakira's unique style:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EuyD5ngfi-4&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EuyD5ngfi-4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Even though it has lyrics like "I give you my hips and even my bones" the song is quite sad. It talks about a young woman wishing for her lover to stay with her, but exaggerates her feelings by saying that she will give him "the little cells I have left"
.
And finally, there's the single that pretty much turned Shakira into what she is today; "Ojos asi" (Eyes like yours)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DAlTlcXGGe4&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DAlTlcXGGe4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This is, pretty much, Shakira's signature song, in the same way that Michael Jackson had "Thriller" and Madonna has "Material Girl"
. I think that while this song pretty much created Shakira as we know her now she was still subtle and pretty much "Country Shakira".
I think after this album she changed drastically. Her music became a bit more American pop, her looks changed and there was a lot more focus on sensuality. I know some of you like her that way, but me I prefer Shakira when she was this young Colombian girl that sung songs with oddball lyrics but with a lot of heart in them
.

That's understandable, and not judging your love of Shakira. Just stating that she was a different style of singer back in the day and that's how I know her best.Nick Bryant wrote:I guess the reason why I prefer the "newer" Shakira is because before "Laundry Service" I didn't know who she was. In my country her music wasn't mainstream or that accessable (so to speak), so in my mind I've always known Shakira how she is today and that's what I'm more used to. I got into her with her first English album "Laundry Service", I love "Objection (Tango)" and "Eyes Like Yours" is a great track toopap64 wrote:I know some of you like her that way, but me I prefer Shakira when she was this young Colombian girl that sung songs with oddball lyrics but with a lot of heart in them.
But I still think she is an amazing artist, so whether she is humble and sincere or sensual and fiery she will always deliver.

According to the show’s creator, Silvio Horta, the singer is set to appear on Ugly Betty — as herself.
“We’re huge fans of Shakira,” Horta tells PEOPLE. “We had a very memorable moment in the third episode where Betty has a makeover that goes wrong and she struts down the street to ‘Hips Don’t Lie.’ We’ve mentioned her several times over the course of the series and have always wanted to work with her. She’s an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit.”
As for her plotline: Shakira will be the key to helping a Mode photo shoot get back on track when the magazine is on location in the Bahamas in an episode titled “The Bahamas Triangle.”
