Family Guy - Disney Drawn Universe

That was amazing, best part of the episode for sure. I loved how it looked like Andalasia, and how all the characters moved and that Meg was an octopus.

I have to admit, that was my fave part in the episode! ^_^

After all, I always wondered what the FG characters looked like, Disney-fied. :D

The animation was pretty good. Granted, not Disney quality (some floaty-ness), but on a television budget it was fantastic. It hurt to have to go back to the static body where only the head/mouth moves with an occasional arm gesture in a pose to pose manner (although it sometimes works in favor for comedic timing).

Of course they pull an anti-semitic Disney punch line. I think they've done this joke before, as so many other people have and its quite annoying (actually ruined the segment for me so I'll skip the end upon rewatching). There's no proof he was racist, just some occurrences of racist remarks/jokes which was common at the time, but no proof he had any kind of resentment/hate for anyone of Jewish descent.

JPanimation - where's the joke you're talking about? Is it here in this clip?

Mort Goldman shows up at the end and they beat him bloody. Then Stewie and Brian look at each other and neutrally agree to leave the dimension.

That was fantastic!

What I find ironic, however, is that even though this segment is making of Disney its the best animation the series has EVER displayed.

Yeah, this segment and the dancing with Gene Kelly segment from Anchors Aweigh really hit it with me (even if the latter is just rotoscoping).

I also suspect that deep down, Seth McFarlane must be a Disney fan. He has made numerous references to Disney. There was the Minnie posing nude gag in one episode, the anti semitic joke in the Stewie movie, the Disney romance joke in the episode in which Quagmire gets married, and now we have this whole segment which is designed to look like a Disney film.

Really, I doubt someone that hates Disney would go through this much trouble :p .

The feel of the animation somehow reminds me of Rover Dangerfield and A Goofy Movie . . . at any rate, it's just really, really cool. 8)

Holy, wow Im impressed... Ive always hated family guy's animation. I admit I watch the show when I cant find anything else on, but I always saw the horbible animation quality to be a huge turn off. the animators seemed to be total hacks, using stock poses and evenly spaced key frames, but this shows they could produce something quite decent. and this is just one segment, it would probably improve if they put their minds to it.

I wonder if this was outsourced though. Im also curious what the budget was like. If its reasonable and practical enough, what exactly is stopping them, or someone like them from attempting something like this in todays cartoons?

He used to want to work for Disney, as he got older he started to look down on it for what ever reason. Heres one interview where he brings it up.

Supposedly this was animated by two veteran Feature Animators, Darlie Brewster and Sandro Cleuzo, right in LA and then sent off for cleanup, in-betweens and coloring in Korea. I can't confirm this but here is their IMDB page and blogs:

Darlie Brewster
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0108268/
http://totald.blogspot.com/

Sandro Cleuzo
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0166461/
http://inspectorcleuzo.blogspot.com/

Darlie particularly makes sense because she worked on Rover Dangerfield and both of them worked at the Don Bluth Studios of whos styles you can pick up on in the segment.

I'm going to try to confirm this but either way, I'm impressed with the final product

I know you said you cant confirm, but what are you basing these on? I dont see family guy listed on those imdb pages, and I dont see anything pointing to family guy on those blogs. did you just hear it from some one else in the know?
