First picture of the DVD Combo Pack.
From antwsla, eBay user.

Looks really nice. The sticker is decieving with the "Includes a Blu Ray copy of the film!" ... should say that it includes an extra DVD copy of the film.
Disney's playing off these combos..
They almost want people to think it's a 2-Disc DVD +Blu-ray by that sticker.

There is no almost about it.. that's exactly what they want people to think. They basically trying to trick people with the sticker and the DVD packaging.

Yep...it's definitely misleading...should instead say "Includes a DVD of the movie".

I've always thought it was deceptive of Disney to even offer it in DVD packaging in the first place because it would confuse consumers, but that sticker on the case is really misleading. Hopefully people are wise enough to look at the price and the back of the box and realize that it's not the 2-disc DVD. Even more so, I hope stores are wise enough to place it in the Blu-Ray section and not mix it with the DVDs.

I don't even think cosumers car about the second DVD than about the film itself

Customers aren't going to want to pay for 3 discs while using only one of them. They care more about the second DVD than having the second Blu-ray for that reason.

I'm going to assume that they think they are getting a deal because they are getting the Blu Ray for free, and have a a free invesment if they ever deciede to upgrade.

Didn't Disney awhile ago decide that they were only going to do one disc because partents/kids were getting cofused by the second disc and the movie not being on it?

Stores are going to be very busy with people coming back to complain they got two blu-ray discs. Although, many families never cared for the second disc in the first place, so maybe not.

Next thing you know, Disney will push this format even further and put a 2-disc blu-ray with the bonus features second disc DVD so they can't watch the movie at all!

I think was he meant was that the majority of people don't care about bonus material, which it's been proven to be true. Sure, the fans, like us, appreciate when the studios put a bunch of behind the scenes material on the disc(s).

And you mention the whole "paying for three, but only using one" than look at what Warner Bros. did with us Blu-ray fans last year, titles like Get Smart, Fred Claus and Speed Racer all are 3 discs, with 1 Blu-ray and 2 DVD ROMs (one for a mini video game and the other for the digital copy), or what Disney's themselves have done with the Combo packs of earlier this year, which most Blu-ray owner having used the Blu-ray and not the DVD or Digital Copy discs.

But, from the average family when the go do their Sunday shopping at Wal-Mart, all they'll see is a copy of Snow White, and the price (which should be lower if Disney wants this "experiment" to work).

I just know lots and lots of people are going to be confused.. like putting in the Blu Ray disc into a DVD player wondering why it isn't working. I think Disney is going to get more complaints about it than anything. It doesn't help that the sticker says it includes an extra Blu Ray copy, because everyday customers will think the last disc inside (the only silver one) would be the extra Blu Ray..

I think this move will overall be a bad move for Disney.. and probably lose potential sales.

Some people might not know that a 2-disc DVD is coming, since if they don't keep up with Disney news like we do, they might have no reason to know, since, for what I know, Disney hasn't done any marketing for that yet.

For people who don't buy Blu-ray yet and/or aren't interested in Blu-ray and/or have no way of playing Blu-ray discs and/or want the 2-disc DVD (either they know about the 2-disc DVD and want it, or if they don't know about it, they'd want a 2-disc DVD rather than a 1-disc DVD and a Blu-ray disc that is as good as a coaster to them), it is a rip-off, since they think they're getting something similar to the other Platinum Editions that they're used to, only to realize that they don't have the bonus features (in a format that they can play), due to Disney's really crappy, misleading marketing. I'd be mad. A 2nd disc full of bonus features that they can play is a better value than a disc that they may or may not ever use.

VHS to DVD was never this confusing! :x

Here is what the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD originally look like this:

This menu has scene selection, bonus features, guided tours and set up. That's it! No sneak peeks, no Disney FastPlay icon. The reason why the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD had no Disney FastPlay? Because, it wasn't even out until the "Lady and the Tramp" Platinum Edition came out in 2006 to have the Disney FastPlay.

For those who are curious about Ponyo, I emailed the reviewer and he has confirmed Ponyo WILL in fact get a BLU-RAY release! But he said the trailer mentioned no date yet...but the blu-ray news is good enough for me, for now!

Irrelevant. This can't be defended or justified.
