I'm not happy about how unsuccessful Hard Candy was in the US. It's done VERY well worldwide...I think it was 2008's 3rd best global seller, but it only sold about 600K in the States. I think it came out just as that sound was dying down in popularity, but I still thought it'd do better than it did. But it doesn't matter, I still think it's a great album.
BTW, will this series ever be resurrected in the future? I used to enjoy these posts, even if I rarely participated and didn't always care for the artists. So much care was given to these posts, and I could name a few people I'd love to see these kinds of posts for, like Barbra Streisand.

So, whos excited for "Celebration"? I know I am! I don't even know why, I already have most of tracks on my Zune anyway lol. Kind of bummed "Rain" or "Human Nature" didn't make the cut, but thats okay, as long as "Open Your Heart" did thats all I'm concerned about lol. One of my friends was like;"OH hahaaha! Open your Heart's not going to be on Celebration!!" Yeah, saw the tracklisting today, what a liar pants! Anyhow, as for the song "Celebration" itself, its amazing.
I love this commercial showcasing all of her hits.

WIKI is talking about a DVD with "47 tracks," anyone know what that could be?
I'm shocked that "This Used to Be My Playground" is missing from both the CD and DVD listings. It's nice to see "Beautiful Stranger" isn't getting shafted. But, "Playground" was a bigger deal all around. Hopefully it's on (I think it is- but don't know for sure) the 2-Disc Special Edition of A League of Their Own.
I also think it's kind of fun/funny/strange that the two discs are going to be mixed up, that the tracks don't follow chronilogical order. Makes you wonder- what their process for that kind of thing is. If both discs are mixed, how do they decide what songs go on which disc? I certainly have to wonder myself.
Here's WIKI's info:
CD 1
1. "Hung Up"
2. "Music"
3. "Vogue"
4. "4 Minutes" (featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland)
5. "Holiday"
6. "Everybody"
7. "Like a Virgin"
8. "Into the Groove"
9. "Like a Prayer"
10. "Ray of Light"
11. "Sorry"
12. "Express Yourself"
13. "Open Your Heart"
14. "Borderline"
15. "Secret"
16. "Erotica"
17. "Justify My Love"
18. "Revolver" (featuring Lil Wayne)
CD 2
1. "Dress You Up"
2. "Material Girl"
3. "La Isla Bonita"
4. "Papa Don't Preach"
5. "Lucky Star"
6. "Burning Up"
7. "Crazy For You"
8. "Who's That Girl"
9. "Frozen"
10. "Miles Away"
11. "Take a Bow"
12. "Live to Tell"
13. "Beautiful Stranger"
14. "Hollywood"
15. "Die Another Day"
16. "Don't Tell Me"
17. "Cherish"
18. "Celebration"
If they really wanted to celebrate Madonna- they would have sprung for 3 CD's. To really put together a more definitive collection. And not just a bumper for a couple of new tracks. (I'm gathering "Revolver" is new)

Ah yeah I could name a few more songs that would make a 3rd disc quite nicely. I'm also surprised "Playground" didn't make it, then again lot of other good slower songs didn't either. "Take a Bow" or "Live to Tell" was definitely a given, can't imagine them not putting those two on. The weird order the tracklisting is in also makes me wonder, chronilogical order would have made more sense. It's like you jump from 05' to 00' to 91' then way up to 08' in the first four songs!
As for the DVD, I'm not sure what that is either, but if its a compilation of music videos or live performances that would be fantastic.

Sickly & Sweet
Even at the age of 51, Madonna's work ethic would put that of the globe's youngest and freshest pop stars to shame. Her ongoing "Sticky & Sweet" world tour has already entered the record books, becoming the highest-grossing live jaunt ever by a solo artist. At the end of 2008, it was estimated to have grossed $280 million and that was before the latest leg, which is scheduled to conclude tonight in Israel. Well, it certainly looks like she's ready for a break.
New footage shot at Saturday's show in Sofia, Bulgaria, appears to capture the pop icon passing out during "Holiday", with a dancer holding her from collapsing to the floor. Madonna is also said to have keeled over as she left the stage during "Spanish Lesson", with a source explaining: "She refused to end the show or take a break after the ‘Holiday' dizzy spell. It turns out she's suffering from exhaustion. She is anaemic. She was advised to postpone the last two shows in Israel for a few days, but logistics and stubborness stopped her."
<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rkvwfQYcQhw&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rkvwfQYcQhw&hl ... 1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
This promises to be a typically busy period for Madonna, who has chosen to accompany the 85-date tour with not only the infamous, prolonged adoption bid for Malawian daughter Mercy James but also an upcoming greatest hits. "Celebration" is her third best of and features two new songs, "Revolver", a collaboration with Lil Wayne, and the title track. The full length video for the latter has now been leaked and is a Hi-NRG club thumper that sees the singer climbing up the walls and all over new boyfriend Jesus Luz. No wonder she's exhausted.

Actually, WIKI says (I suppose they could be wrong) that "Take a Bow" and "Live to Tell" are going to be on there.jeremy88 wrote:Ah yeah I could name a few more songs that would make a 3rd disc quite nicely. I suppose one thing they could do is - box up Madonna's first Greatest compilation, The Immaculate Collection, then morph Something to Remember into GHV2 (by taking out the songs that are repeats from TIC), then put a half dozen or so select hits from American Life to Hard Candy onto a 3rd disc along with what's left from GHV2.
Something that just occured to me: I don't think from a record company point of view that Greatest Hit compilations are to make the listener feel satisfied with the final selection. I can't help feeling like every Madonna compilation of singles is supposed to leave the listener wanting more. But, even then I'm reminded of what happened when Bjork released her Greatest Hits. She had 2 different versions. One was a solo disc that went into most stores, the other was a multi-disc Collector's Edition sort of thing that had songs the other didn't. (And then, of course, the Greatest Hits DVD of her music videos was released separately the next year)
Hopefully if it is a music videos DVD, it will be easy to find and not incredibly hard to get like some have been (Marilyn Manson's and Lamb's Greatest Hits DVD+CD combos being the hardest for me personally).jeremy88 wrote:As for the DVD, I'm not sure what that is either, but if its a compilation of music videos or live performances that would be fantastic.
As for her live performances... Again I have to go, "if this were a real celebration," they would find a way to get Truth or Dare in a definitive package. I guess Lionsgate / Artisan have owned it for the longest time. Which is outright bizarre since Warner pretty much own Madonna now (and Who's That Girl? the movie, right?) and Miramax made the movie (or a.i.m.?).
They did make Live Performance music videos for "Holiday" and "Dress You Up" that played on VH1 (and probably Mtv as well).

Yes, the DVD is going to include 47 of Madge's music videos. A user posted a review on Amazon, but it wasn't really a review. Here's what it says:
Also, does anyone know if the 1-Disc CD edition will include the album edits of the songs? I made a playlist and if you use the versions off the songs' albums and the Immaculate Collection, I got a run time of 1:19:16, so it fits on one CD. Here's what I got for each song:
1. Hung Up 5:36*
2. Music 3:45*
3. Vogue 5:19**
4. 4 Minutes 4:04*
5. Holiday 4:06**
6. Like A Virgin 3:39*
7. Into The Groove 4:10**
8. Like A Prayer 5:52**
9. Ray Of Light 5:21*
10. La Isla Bonita 4:03*
11. Frozen 6:13*
12. Material Girl 4:02*
13. Papa Don't Preach 4:09**
14. Lucky Star 3:38**
15. Express Yourself 4:04**
16. Open Your Heart 3:51**
17. Dress You Up 4:01*
18. Celebration 3:35***
* = original album version, taken straight off of the album.
** = taken off of The Immaculate Collection
*** = taken from the song's single (the only one this applies to is Celebration, not sure if the album version will be longer).
I'm not sure if the ones I have taken from TIC have longer edits, as I don't own the albums they come off of.
I'm upset that American Life's music video will not be included. I mean, it was pretty controversial so you would think it would sort of be a point of interest for consumers. The video for "Erotica" was very controversial as well, yet it made the track list for the DVD.Anonymous wrote: * * * * * (5 stars) Official Tracklisting, August 26, 2009

Oh, yes the songs from The Immaculate Collection all have longer edits. With the possible exceptions of "Vogue" and "Crazy for You."DisneyFreak5282 wrote:Also, does anyone know if the 1-Disc CD edition will include the album edits of the songs? These songs all have the following minutes cut from their original versions:
1. "Holiday" = 2:05 cut
(TIC- 4:06 / album- 6:10)
2. "Lucky Star" = 2:00 cut
(TIC- 3:37 / album- 5:37)
3. "Borderline" = 1:20 cut
(TIC- 4:00 / album- 5:21)
4. "Like a Virgin" = 0:28 cut
(TIC- 3:11 / album- 3:39)
5. "Material Girl" = 0:08 cut
(TIC- 3:53 / album- 4:01)
7. "Into the Groove" = 0:28 cut
(TIC- 4:09 / single- 4:38)
8. "Live to Tell" = 0:34 cut
(TIC- 5:18 / album- 5:52)
9. "Papa Don't Preach" = 0:18 cut
(TIC- 4:11 / album- 4:29)
10. "Open Your Heart" = 0:22 cut
(TIC- 3:51 / album- 4:13)
11. "La Isla Bonita" = 0:14 cut
(TIC- 3:48 / album- 4:02)
13. "Express Yourself" = 0:35 cut
(TIC- 4:04 / album- 4:39)
14. "Cherish" = 1:10 cut
(TIC- 3:52 / album- 5:03)
In total, that's 7 minutes and 42 seconds cut from 12 songs.
Shocking... "Like a Prayer" is longer by aprox. 0:10 seconds.

The album leaked! And I'm trying to burn an edition of the 1-disc edition, but why is it not able to fit on one disc?! I set it so there is no gap between the songs, and I even replaced some versions of the songs with versions from other sources that are only a second or two shorter (cutting out 1 to two of the three seconds of silence at the end). It originally ran for EXACTLY 80 minutes, and now I've got it down to 79 minutes, 48 seconds and it still says I will need multiple discs. WTF?!
I just want this to hold me over til I buy the two disc edition!
EDIT:
Wait, Amazon has different run times for some of these tracks, does this mean Wiki is wrong (shocker)? After all, Wiki did simply take the 18 run times from the versions that appear on the 2 Disc SE which is the one that leaked. These are Amazon run times:
EDIT...again:
Scratch that. I think I have most of these edits. Back to me buying the 2-Disc SE.

That actually would make more sense, seeing as that would probably all fit on one disc. Since this seems to be the case, maybe I'll buy the 1-Disc along with the DVD (I originally planned on getting the 2-Disc SE and then the DVD some other time). But I really do love Revolver! I really wish they would have replaced another song with that one, it's more balanced that way - 16 hits plus two new tracks! Darn. Decisions, decisions...Samples

I'm with Laz! They should release the cover as a full-size poster. I'm only a fan of Madge's old stuff, and I'd still hang that thing up!
You can for sure bet I'll be buying the album, though. I wasn't so sure at first, as I already own the Immaculate Collection. But I'm sold on the artwork. It's gorgeous!

Here are the prices I've got so far for each edition of the album, plus the DVD.
Standard Edition:
Target: $11.98
Best Buy: $11.99
FYE: $12.99*
Deluxe Edition [2 CDs]:
Target: $15.98
Best Buy: $16.99
FYE: $17.99*
DVD:
Target: (not advertised in weekly ad)
Best Buy: $24.99
FYE: $26.99*
* Note - The FYE prices are taken from their website, and I know sometimes prices differ in-store. Does anyone know the in-store prices or can anyone confirm these prices?
Anyone know if Target will be selling the DVD at all? I think I'm going there for the Deluxe Edition CD, then shooting over to Best Buy to pick up Mariah's new album, and the prices for the DVD have seemed strange to me. On Best Buy's website it doesn't even list it as being on sale. I haven't seen the BB Weekly Ad, so I'm hoping there'll be some sort of deal like, "buy both the CD and the DVD, save $____!", because I'm not sure if I can justify spending that much on a DVD full of music videos.

I don't usually embed videos anymore... But this one is worth it, Madonna's alternate version of the "Get Together" video. BLEW me away! :

I wonder if that version will be on the video compilation DVD...?
