What do they want...to prove that people can be blinded by too bright of a picture of a movie..... I mean 1080p...thats good enough..you know some concern of people might lose their hearing at concerts....now they don't even have to go to see Jonas brothers live to kill their hearing...apparently they can do that and kill their eyes by watching the concert on blu ray and if they come out with 2160p...I think we will have people eyes falling out and people going tone deaf instantly....isn't 1080p good enough...god now I see what my mom means by technology is going to be the end of us.....

CampelzSoup, the 2002 DVD's new colors have even made the film so light the Beast is already clearly seen before Belle asks him to step into the light!

Albert, when I said "Duh", I thought I wrote something so obviously true, everyone would agree. I thought people would read it and say "well, yes, Disney should respect their fans. That is right, that is better." I actually don't see how that statement could be false in anyone's opinion, unless someone's opinions are like...the better thing to do is whatever you want without any regard for anyone else, or something. But I just don't see that as opinion. I see that as clearly right.

It really sucks that it is hard for me to convey what I mean in just text on the internet. As I have said before, it's great that everyone thinks differently and uniquely, but then it means we don't always get what everyone means.

Maybe you misinterpreted something? I don't have any negative feelings concerning Musker/Clements or any of the animators, and I didn't say they don't put their "soul" into their work. But they are forever tied to the corporation--and the corporation makes all the final decisions. Hence there being no surprise that 3 princess films will be shot out in a row (TP&TF, TB&TB, Rapunzel). Ultimately, they will have their moments, may even be great. But the intention is based on financial, not quality, reasons.

And are you honestly saying Musker/Clements or any of the animators have never worked on projects they don't care for? Or is animation one field of work where employees never feel unsatisfied, or ultimately keep working for a paycheck even when they aren't happy?

Had a speak to Don Hahn about the film today. First things first, the IMAX edition ain't going anywhere - Human Again and other modifications are here to stay.

Secondly, they had nothing to do with the colours on the studio end and put it down to either the difference in film stock in the time or a fault on the DVD. The presentation I saw today defiantly looked correct, so I am going to trust the man and hope that the BD turns out allright.

Ok....so a fault on every single DVD is the reason why the colours got changed? Sounds like a pretty weak excuse, when I'm sure Hahn and the rest of the creative team had the final say on how the film looked before the movie was prepared for Platinum in 2002. Or were they totally sidetracked by the IMAX version?

I can't wait until they actually go to the negatives/CAPS files (which I'm sure they did in the IMAX) and then people still say it's wrong. Can you imagine if Disney releases FOUR cuts of the film this time:

Exactly, more will never be enough for some technology-fetishists and Blu-fanboys. It's not about the films or quality for them.
It's about the neverending need for new materialistic things.
They just can't cope with the fact that 1080p will soon be obsolete and exceeded, so the urge for more is already taking over their minds.......sad really.

I wonder what they are going to do about it, post on fora that people with 1080p material are stupid and old fashioned and just don't understand it?

In the case of BatB, I see why many are upset with the 2002 release. Overall I'm with you on that. The thing is, the change really isn't as drastic or detrimental to the overall film as I think a lot of people are acting it was. Are some of you seriously telling me that you are incapable of enjoying the film because some of the colors are off? If thats the case how did any of you ever survive the time of VHS? I'm in your corner in that I wish the 2002 release was darker, but from what it sounds like the new release is going to be a lot closer to the original so what is there left to complain about? What else is there really to post over and over and over again other than what you originally said but rephrased? I just think it's time to get over it since there's nothing to be done about it. I also think it's wrong for any of us to pretend we absolutely know what the original intent of the artist was. It's incredibly ignorant for any of us to speak for these artists and the direction in which they want their film to go. Yes, you may love the film and like to watch it now and then, and have as much merchandise as you can get your hands on. But to imply that the people who made this film their passion in life, the ones who spent years in development, the ones that are essentially pouring their souls into their work trying to meet the demand of shrinking deadlines, stockholders, and a public to match past work all of the sudden have absolutely no ownership or say in that films future past it's initial release... well that's one of the most ridiculous claims I've ever heard on this site.

It's just about getting the original version, without any alterations. Yes, filmmakers can do whatever they want with their movies but if they have just a little bit of common sense they always include the original versions. Why do you think there's so much fuss about the Star Wars original versions? Because they're not released properly. The French Connection was altered too, and that also caused controversy. I can't understand what's wrong with having the original version of a movie?

You're confusing resolution with sharpness or brightness. Even a regular film has more information than Blu-ray. when you go to a movie theater, do you cry out that your eyes hurt? I doubt it.
A higher resolution for home viewing is superfluous, but that's only because the screen you need to fully benefit that would be a lot bigger than the televisions available now. And there won't be a lot who would buy that.

idk...watching the colors in the live action Cat in that made my hurt in theaters....I don't even wanna think about it in HD of any kind of formatsame thing with burton's Charlie and the chocolate factory....

I guess the kind of tv you would need is bigger than the jetsons...

and so now blu ray is going to be oboslete in 5 years? Then why are they selling it to us now....oh boy it will be a blu ray combo with clear way discs......idk....my house is not big enough for a tv bigger than the jetsons...so until I win that lottery I don't play i'll be happy with hd 1080p

idk...watching the colors in the live action Cat in that made my hurt in theaters....I don't even wanna think about it in HD of any kind of formatsame thing with burton's Charlie and the chocolate factory....

I guess the kind of tv you would need is bigger than the jetsons...

I must say Divinity that Rapunzel seemed to be something Glen Keane wanted to do all by his own desire, and then Disney said yes to it because it happened to be a princess story, but it needed to be CGI, but they allowed him to try and make it look like hand-drawn and some paintings.

VHS didn't go out over night, they still produced them up untill like, last year

I still considerd them obsolete though the second dvds released, just as I do with dvds now that blu ray is out. I dont see how its debatable, there is better product out, the older inferior one is now obsolete, period. it doesnt matter how long it takes for the general public to make the transition. they eventually will, either by their own doing or being forced into it further down the road. (and by forced I just mean it'll be the only way to get new movies/tv shows, as far as physical mediums go)

I like VHS over DVD for some movies It's more to do with atmosphere than quality.

Lady and the Tramp and Beauty and the Beast has always been more fun on VHS to me.
