Shanghai prepares site for Disneyland

What would you like to see changed or added?

They should definitely fix up Fantasyland. Why DL got an overhaul in 83' and not Magic Kingdom I'll never know. I recently look at the Magic Kingdom map and I still see some available space they can used to expand it and make look better. For one, fix the Small World. It's the only park that does not have the famous facade on outside.

Also it's also only one without a Pinocchio ride. and Fantasy land should get rid of those tents facade. The Bavarian village facade is much much better.

Actually there's already plans for an update of WDW's Fantasyland that's already underway and expected to open in 2011. The plans call for the entire demolition of Mickey's Toontown Fair and expanding back to there and the old 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Lagoon. The Barnstormer is rumored to be themed to Alice as the Cheshire Coaster, with mini sub-section lands dedicated to Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pixie Hollow, and Dumbo. The Cinderella, SB, and Pixie areas will be themed meet and greet sections to the worlds from their movies, Dumbo will be a circus themed area with two new Dumbo attractions, the Little Mermaid section will have a duplicate of the dark ride that's being built in DCA, and BatB will have a new table service Be Our Guest restaurant, along with a Gaston's Tavern. Supposedly when that expansion is done, phase two will go into redesigning the existing Fantasyland and they'll completely rebuild the facades for Peter Pan, Snow White, Pooh, and Philharmagic.

I like their ideas for the expansion, though with the expansion there's likely going to be a lot of work going on backstage (since the expansion is on the backstage area where most of storage is, including the computer systems for all of Fantasyland, IIRC).

I feel bad for castmembers who're used to the bus stop behind Toontown. It'll either have to be moved elsewhere or they're going to have to hike all the way to the Fantasyland one to catch a bus to West Clock. The bus itself might also have to be rerouted to accommodate the construction, making transit time even longer.

HOLY SHIT! Why haven't anyone brought this up before?

So I'm assuming that there will be no toon town in Magic Kingdom. Will this Fantasyland will be re-theme with the Bavarian village theme? Any news on Small World? If they able expand the land for new stuff they could easily make Small world have it's own facade section like all other parks do. I see on the blue print the new stuff stops at where Pinocchio restaurant is at, there still more room west of it if the knock down that old Small World place and rebuild it like the original one. So I guess no Pinocchio ride eh? Wish it did since Pinocchio is a great fantasy story.

Also I would give Alice the Alice in wonderland ride. I dunno but I think that ride would be cool edition to WDW

But damn 20,000 leagues under the sea returning?? That's mega awesome!.

I don't have too much of a problem with this, but I do agree that they need to focus on the other parks, rather than create a whole new one.

So no more mickey or minnie houses?, that's kinda sad. Although this new fantasy land does sound 10x better.

Come on, I wanna see London Disneyland (come on, it'll be in the UK!) or Disneyland Australia, as that will make a possibly awesome visit even more amazing.

But you can always take the 15min plane to Paris.
Europe is a small place, I don't think it's a good idea to open another park there. Disneyland Australia would be a great idea, or maybe one here in Dubai , it could be the most Aladdin-centric park of them all.

I would be happy seeing anything other than Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. To me there is no point in simply cloning the parks. I think it would invoke more initiative for fans to visit them all if they were all a lot more different and original.

I don't know. I can see arguments for a new park anywhere, really. I mean, it would be pretty cool if they could spread out into other continents and regions. However, right now, the US is the only country with 2 Disney parks, and China has a much greater population than we do. So if anyone else needs two, it should be one that is very large and densely populated (aka, China).
But yeah, it would be cool if they could spread into new regions. Or even put one in the American northeast (no it's not that neccesary.... but I'd bet I'd get to a Disney park a lot more often that way!)

I think for the Chinese people and on a business standpoint this is a great idea. Hong Kong Disneyland has been extremely popular, and there seems to be a huge demand for another park there.

However, I also agree that Disney should also look into more regions. I don't want Disney to have too many more parks though, since this might cheapen the ones we already have, but a park in a place like Dubai would be perfect. Dubai is only going to get bigger and Disney should key in on that now so they can ensure that they'll have the space they need for it. Dubai is basically turning itself into the ideal world-wide vacation spot. Other than Dubai, I'm really not sure where else would be a great spot. Unless they were to design an Australian park to be specifically unique I don't see it actually attracting that many people outside of that region. I guess my overall opinion of the parks is that they should appeal for people world-wide. I don't believe in cloning the parks or making them only pleasing for the people around them. They really should be a one of a kind place.

I would love to have a Disney theme park here in Canada. The closest is Canada's Wonderland, which is kind of crummy, even more-so since it became independent from Paramount.

I know Walt Disney had wanted to build a park in Canada, but then decided against it when he realised that the massive snowfall in the winter months would not lead to a yearly income like with California and Florida.
