Girl, don't be quick to throw down the cards! Both Whitney and Mariah have still got it!!! From Oprah's own tweet last night:

In search of ceiling repairmen. Cause Whitney just BLEW THE ROOF off of Harpo. Grown men & women weeping in the aisles.

GMA was a one-off bad performance, and apparently she even said on Oprah that she wanted to postpone the gig but they refused!
Y'all gonna see come 15th sept!!!!

And, yeah sure both artists aren't at their peak, but they still be head and shoulders above everyone else, wether it was brought on by drugs, lack of care, or merely deterioration through age. THEY STILL GOT IT!!!

oh and I agree with the deterioration of age comment Beasty (Mimi always takes vocal rest and looks after her voice, it's not like she's abused it!

). Yes, they are both head and shoulders above some so say "vocalists" (if you can even call them that

)

What do you mean by "they both did it to themselves". I agree that both of their voices have deteriorated over these recent few years but Whitney's was mainly through drug abuse but what's Mariah's excuse...?

On Mariah:
I meant mostly due to constant promotion in the 90s (which we're seeing the result of today), lack of continued vocal training, possible nodules from overusing the vocal chords and not letting them recover, etc.

On Whitney:
I hope that Whitney's Oprah performance is fantastic. I have to add though that Oprah is not to be trusted in relation to her show. What is Oprah going to say, "Whitney was on, wow she is not a great singer anymore!," no Oprah is going to say "Whitney just blew off the roof of Harpo!" She's got a show to promote. I mean, she probably put a call out for the biggest Whitney fans, and that's why they were "weeping in the aisles". I hope GMA was really just one bad performance. I have faith that she pulled it together and did IDKMOS justice!

and I just want to post that even if it sounds harsh, my criticism of both comes from love and not haterade, I just want the best for both of these LEGENDS!

Let me just tell you that the spirit of God was in the place tonight. I just got back, and I have to unwind a bit. So give me a few moments to gather my thoughts together before I give a review. And yes Whitney was there. oh and let me say this. SHE TORE THE STAGE UP! The voice is definetly still there. She sung IDKMOS better than the album version.

Whitney is was preaching and teaching. She has a story to tell. I mean omggg the presence of God there. Everyone felt it. Pat was there. I mean at one point Pat was just staring at me from across a few rows. It kinda scared me a bit. This was before whitney came out and suprised(not me) everyone. Both of us were just staring at each other. Eyes red from crying. I pat if Whitney was there. She made a face bascially telling me yea. So when the curtains were pulled back, and whitney was standing there in her black dress and red heels. I flipped! Think I blacked out at one point. For like a second. She came down the steps singing IDKMOS which was EXCELLENT! But she wanted to do again. And the second time was EVEN BETTER! GUYS LISTEN TO ME!! THIS WAS HER BEST PERFORMANCE IN YEARSSSSS. Not a single sour note AT ALL. NOT EVEN ONE! She also did an improtpu performace of ILTL. Which happens to be the best live version of this song ever too. I've seen her sing this song many times, but this time was absolutely incredible! Y'all just don't know. Whitney was just singing. She was testifying. She even mentioned that preaching is probably her ministry. I got my spirtual breakthrough that I needed. You guys will see me shouting on Monday. sorry for the errors. I'm just trying to write everything down while it's still in my head. Any questions just asked. Don't ask me about bobby though. Not right now..."

And W fans are the most critical!

I was going to buy the album until I watched Good Morning America and Whitney's sorry attempt to sing again. She has lost her beautiful voice, although she still looks wonderful. I think she should be a good example of why you don't do drugs, and you try to maintain some semblance of a real life, even though you are married to a wife-beating, drug dealer like Bobby Brown. I think she made a lot of wrong decisions in her life, and the major one was her involvement with Mr. Brown.

I own all of the pre-Bobby Brown albums of Whitney and will listen to them more each day, but unless someone just gives me a copy of the new album it will not be in my collection.

I'm really glad Whitney's back, even though I'm not really excited about this album. I previewed it and the songs just don't exactly thrill me. I can't wait to see her back in the full swing of things though and back to her true form.

Just my opinion.
