My first reaction was OMG YES! After all, this event of one of my favorite television events ever while it was on.
However....
After seeing the line up, I became dismally disappointed. When I envision Divas I think of the original '98 line up. Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, and Gloria Estefan were all musical legends when they performed. The '99 show being under the same influence by having Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Cher, and Brandy. This years lineup is Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Adele, and Jordan Sparks. Paula Abdul is hosting the show. Granted there are two more Divas that haven't been announced yet, but this current line up disappoints me greatly. When I envision a Diva none of these artist really come to mind. I don't feel that they have been around long enough or have the same credentials to support the title of the show.
My hope is that the final picks are Mariah and Whitney. They both have new albums out this month, and they are both sensational musicians that have achieved things in the music industry some of the artists on the current list will only dream of. It only seems appropriate for them to add some bigger names.
Aside for my bitterness I am still excited for the show and will definitely tune in! Hopefully it's a hit and it can raise a lot of money for Save the Music!
