BVHE is at it again!
So, I bought Gangs of New York yesterday. Surprise surprise--no insert! Does a film have to be Gone With the Wind for it to get a freaking insert nowadays or what? (Before all you DVD junkies correct me and say that GWTW doesn't have an insert because it is one of those cardboard cases, I'll let you know that the original DVD release is a standard DVD case with 8 page insert booklet.) It will be interesting to see if Chicago gets an insert or not, since it is a Miramax release as well.
Whew- I fell better now.

I don't get the lack of inserts. I mean, I spent 5+ years with a computer book and software publisher...I have a pretty good idea of what it costs to produce jewel case and DVD product from the cost of the disk itself to royalties and printed materials (inserts). The cost of a basic 2-sided insert (front-back) is next-to-nothing, and a 4-sided insert is a lot cheaper than you would imagine. I can't accept that cost is an issue and I also can't believe that consumers would rather not have an insert.
As an example, we produced software products that retailed at $39.99 and our cost-of-goods usually was no higher than $4 or $5 and that included casing and inserts.

That's it! I'm never buying another DVD again!!!!

I'm happy to live without inserts as long as there is a chapter listing somewhere.
It did annoy me with the local release of 'Spirited Away' (released by Madman/AV Channel, who releases almost all the anime here) that had a beautiful gatefold with slip cover, but no sign of a chapter listing!
That's all I ask for...

That's EXACTLY my point. The cost of this, in the overall C-O-Gs, is minimal. It absolutely does not impact the list price of a DVD, so I cannot understand the recent omissions. To me it cheapens the prce-point a bit because 1) we have come to expect inserts with DVDs, and 2) it almost looks like they rushed the product out the proverbial door when it's not included.Luke wrote:A booklet with notes like Columbia/TriStar and DreamWorks (used to?) do would be nice. If it's just a Chapter Listing, well I'll never use it, but I'd only favor dropping it if it lowers the customer cost (which it doesn't).
