In the very short trailer for the the forthcoming release Snow White's voice sounds far less shrill than in previous versions , I wonder if Disney's sound guys have somehow moderated it for modern audiences?

I am looking forward to the CD Soundtrack which I hope will contain more musical cues : in the last veersion the Witch's flight up the mountainside was completely missing!

It's probably just casual dubbing for the trailer. The DVD trailers for Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and probably numerous others were the same. I'm sure that the original film has been left untouched. :p

Any news on whether this DVD still happening? Disney seems to forget that this release is even happening. I hope we'll get some sort of bonus's/exclusives for it. There seems like a lot already but there really isn't since they all have the same Snow White combo/release in it.

Believe me, it is still happening.
Disney is just pushing Blu-Ray down our throats. The lack of the DVD advertising is on purpose...

This is almost exactly how they pushed the Platinum DVD at the expense of the video back in 2001. The DVD is still 100% happening but Disney needs to devote more time to their flogging of the Blu-ray first.

How many think this DVD release will be better than the previous DVD release? Anyone planning on keeping the 2001 version even after buying the upcoming version?

I was at the Disney Store yesterday, and the trailer came on, and the voices definitely were not the proper ones! It got on my nerves! Are they trying to fool children into thinking that the films have "modern" voices or something? I mean, a lot of people here make fun of Snow White's voice, but what about in a case such as Cinderella's?!? Why bother changing the voices (and I like Snow White's voice, so I don't think it was necessary). It just frustrates me!

they did it with the sleeping beauty tv ad too - i think the original voices just too soft spoken for the world of tv commercials.

The trailer that has been on the Blu Ray/DVDs promoting the film have all been her voice unless you guys are talking about another trailer.

You don't have to get rid of your old Platinum Edition. Disney's offering up a $10 upgrade for the Diamond Collection release, if you're a Disney Movie Rewards member. All you have to do is enter in the UPC code of the 2001 DVD or VHS releases like a original DMR code and it'll provide a link to print out a coupon good for 10/6/09-10-20/09. (You can only print out two coupons, you can't print out more than that.)

A better alternative than the mail-in offer Disney did last year, I think with Sleeping Beauty and National Treasure 2.

I don't think Disney dubs their character voices on trailers as some sort of elaborate hoax to convince kids to want the DVDs. I think the reason is that, when editing the sound on a trailer, you need separate vocal, music, and effects tracks. On the older Disney films, it may not be possible to separate those layers for editing and remixing purposes (for example, the music-only track to Alice in Wonderland no longer exists, which is why the official soundtrack is filled with soujd effects). If you want further proof of my theory, watch the Pinocchio Platinum trailer. Even with the new trailer music, you keep hearing actual film score fading in and out in the background from each piece of dialogue included. It's a lot easier and smoother for Disney to just create their own trailer soundtrack from scratch, music, vocals, and all.

The UK trailer for the "Sleeping Beauty" Platinum is so badly over-dubbed it's scary...

I've been wondering this for a while about Snow White's vocal soundtrack... Is it possible that the vocal soundtrack has deteriorated in such a way that what we have now isn't even what was originally recorded? I know that many on UD joke about Snow White's voice being extremely shrill, myself included, but is it really her voice of the actual physical track she was on? Now that the film has been restored again, and I'm assuming the vocal soundtrack has as well, do you think she will actually sound better than in previous releases?

I doubt it. If the separate layers don't exist they can't fabricate a new multi-channel soundtrack.

He/she means rerecording the dialogue esclusively for the trailer.
