Peanuts 1970's Collection Vol 1!

Post by David S. »

From the UD Homepage:

On the heels of this summer's 1960's Collection, Warner has announced the release of Peanuts: 1970's Collection Vol. 1 on October 20th. The 2-disc set ($29.98 SRP) will hold the seventh through twelfth animated specials: Play It Again, Charlie Brown, You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown, There's No Time for Love, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, It's a Mystery, Charlie Brown, and It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. Play and Mystery are new to DVD. Bonus features will include the all-new featurette "Woodstock: Creating Snoopy's Sidekick" and a digital download of two songs.
This is awesome news for Peanuts fans, as it looks like Warner intends to roll out the entire series of Peanuts TV specials in chronological order!

I'm excited for the DVD debut of "It's A Mystery, Charlie Brown" because I remeber it being a favorite from childhood, probably because it prominantly features Snoopy and Woodstock, my two favorite characters. I'm excited for the Woodstock bonus featurette, for the same reason!

As always, thanks for the info, Luke!

I'm getting ahead of things a little since Vol 1 isn't out yet, but I was just looking at a master list of the Peanuts TV specials here and noticed there is exactly 6 more that were made in the 70's, which should work out nicely for Vol 2, assuming they keep the same format. If so, Vol 2 would be the long-awaited DVD debut for Snoopy's role as an Alaskan sled dog in "What A Nightmare, Charlie Brown", and the set contents would look like this:

1970's Vol 2 (Tentative)

Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown
You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown
It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown
It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown
What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown
You're the Greatest, Charlie Brown
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas

Yeah, I bet that lineup is a given for early 2010. And then the '80s will slightly have to up the number of shorts per set. Warner really shouldn't force these to be 2-disc sets if they can fit on one (as they could on the '60s).

I've been behind on my Peanuts collection (I just have the Deluxe Holiday Collection, "This Is America, Charlie Brown", and old Paramount Christmas DVDs), but I can't wait for the first volume of 1970s Collection! I always loved "It's A Mystery, Charlie Brown" and can't wait to see it again!

I'm still a little peeved that the existing extras made for the Remastered Deluxe Editions aren't ported over, but I'm such a completist that I'll likely be buying both (the RDE's and the Collections).

I'll likely still hold on to "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" as it has the Whoopi Goldberg-narrated making-of for "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

I am excited for this. I was made when the 1960's collection was announced because I had recently bought many of the shorts, but I think I may sell those and collect this series instead. I don't think I'll ever watch the bonus docs on the other releases again, so I don't mind losing those in favor of a chronological release.

I was a real fan of Peanuts growing up. I'll have to keep an eye on bargain prices for these sets!

This sounds like an amazing way to pay tribute to the PEANUTS series. :)
