Snow Dogs DVD

Post by Goofy Luv »

Today was a lazy movie watching day, so my husband, little boy & I laid on our bed & watched Snow Dogs for the first time. This was one of the $10 DVD Disney Store purchases from a while back.

From just a DVD point of view I'm really disappointed. Not providing the OAR on any movie is wrong, but I felt cheated out of a lot of Snow Dogs. For those who haven't seen it yet, 98% of the film takes place in Alaska. There should've been some beautiful landscape shots, but instead have been cropped. One thing that never made sense to me either is adding a DTS track to a full-frame presentation. Give me the OAR & a dolby digital track any day.

Now I have to admit we all enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Unlike the theatrical trailers portrayed, the dogs don't talk (well, except in one little scene). That's why we steered clear of this film in the first place. It looked like a cheesy dog-talking film. But I do stand corrected. It's a lot of fun.

Here's a question for those who have seen it already. Why does Sisqo's character crack his neck at the end of the film? SPOILER SPOILER Were the filmmakers jokingly suggesting that he is Cuba Gooding Jr's brother?

I don't know if this helps anyone out, but if you have a multi-region player, the R4 version (Australia) is presented in 1.85:1 and is 16:9 enhanced and has a DD 5.1 track on it.
It also has the same features available on the US version (i.e. commentary, featurettes, deleted scenes).
Hope this helps someone :)
I have not seen the movie (doesn't really appeal to me), but a good review for the R4 version can be found here.:

I find this site useful as it compares the DVDs of different regions, mainly R1 v R4.

And due to the current exchange rate, Australian discs are extreamly cheap. Even though most R4 and R2 discs are identical (most actually being coded for R2 and R4) I often pick up Australian discs to save money (they're often half the price of UK discs, even when you pay to have them shipped half-way across the world!)
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I saw it about a year ago, but I don't really remember this. Sorry.

I thought it was dumb to advertise it as a talking dogs movie, but then it did pretty solid box office business, so what do I know? And of course, Kangaroo Jack modeled its misleading advertising after it.
