Our 2009 Non-Disney Vacation........

Post by dvdjunkie »

Since we have been to both Disneyland in California and Disneyworld in Florida so many times, we decided to take a "trip back in time" and go to a little town (518 population) called Weaubleau, Missouri for our vacation this year. It was a vacation and a chance to meet some people that we have talked with on the internet and never met in person. In fact, we had so much fun that we are going to do this every year.

I am a contributor to another website that talks about old movies, all the way back to the silent era, and the same with music and other items that people have in their collections. The site www.Larrys66Diner.com and everyone is welcome to visit and if you like it, join up and you too can be with us next year at the Second Annual Larry's 66 Diner Reunion.

We are over 100 active members strong, over 200 have registered, but well over a hundred participate almost on a daily basis on the threads. They have a great game department, and it is truly a user-friendly, family-oriented site, and they don't tolerate profanity, or abuse in any way, shape or form.

Would like to share just a few pictures of our wonderful vacation at the Weaubleau Motel, which was built in 1940 and sits just off US Highway 54 about 40 miles from the Kansas-Missouri border.

This is the marquee that greeted us when we arrived, it says the same thing on both sides, and if you look you will see that the "u" is missing on this side of the welcome sign:

This is our cabin - #4:

A view from the back of cabin #9 at the huge area behind the motel:

The beginning of the Saturday night bonfire:

The game room, which features video games, an oldies-filled jukebox, and this beautiful pool table. That's Larry and my wife, Beverly:

A beautiful skyline - except my fat belly got in the way:

On the way home, we stopped in Fort Scott, Kansas:

And then there is the town in Kansas:

The town of Gas must have a great sense of humor, they have a Taco Bell and Drug Store right next door to each other, and the First Baptist Church of Gas, Kansas is on the other corner.

Hope you enjoy these few pictures. The Weaubleau Motel is truly a step back in time, no telephone, no internet, but they do have nice spacious cabins (9 of them) that range from single queen-size bed to a two-bedroom cabin with four beds, two queen and two double beds along with a beautiful kitchenette. So you don't feel to left out, they are the only Motel in the area that offers DirecTV with their televisions in each cabin. But we spent so much time outside having fun, I don't think the television was turned for more than 30 minutes total, while we were there.

Sorry for the late response, but this was lovely! Man, it seems everyone I know is on vacation or went someplace for vacation, and I didn't go anywhere this year! :(

Instead of going to Colorado for Labor Day Weekend this year, which has been a family tradition, the whole bunch of us are going back to the Weaubleau Motel for Labor Day weekend this year. Should be a lot of fun, and I will post more pictures.
