I think it can easily be denied, because its not the final product. We all know Disney's reliability on its before and after comparisons and pre-release clips is somewhat sketchy.

Again, wait until you see it for real. Remember all the fuss about the new Sleeping Beauty restoration after the on-line video, which didn't match the actual release colours?

Compare:
IMO its worthless trying to evaluate the content, until you actually have it - not some third rate copy (and that includes on-line videos hosted by Disney)

I should have realized that. Every DVD I upgraded had more color information on the Blu-ray. So it makes sense that the flash video would be a (massive) misrepresentation of both formats.

I like it too, shows how washed-out the PE was.

The PE looked horrific and overly bright, way too saturated reds, which made Snow White and the queen look like clowns.

The new restoration looks 5 times worse and has NOTHING to do with Disney anymore.

Walt Disney: "I deliberately toned down the colors of Snow White, because THAT'S how I want it".

They should change the title of the film from "Snow White" to "Strawberry Red"......

And why did they remove all the details in het hair? It's one big black patch now. Oh, I forgot, that's part of the "restoration" process, remove all the details and recolor big patches.

The photo you are complaining about is from the comparisons that Disneykid did and if you read his post, you would have seen this:

Also note that some of the caps are off by a frame or two, so don't panic about any altered animation or something melodramatic like that.

That is exactly the case here. When you watch the film, you will notice how the white accents in Snow White's hair is chalked on and it occasionally flickers because it wasn't put on every cell. The two images are a few frames apart. And like many others have stated, you can't go and blast the new restoration because of a 1-minute flash clip. Wait until you have the DVD or Blu-Ray in your possession before you do that.

I just realized the Limited Edition Collector's Set is only on Blu-Ray. I was asking this as my Christmas present (along with a lot of other DVDs coming out ) until I just realized the only version on DVD is the plain old 2-disc edition. Wtf?

I have a question.. Am I the only one planning to get the 2-Disc DVD version or is there anyone planning on getting it? I feel like the odd one out here since everyone else appears to not be getting that version..

You're not alone, I'm also getting it. I don't have a Blu-Ray yet, so I don't really have a choice.

You can say what you want, but I think Blu Ray is way too sharp and takes you out of the whole magic experience of watching a film.

ESPECIALLY when watching animated films.

The extreme sharpness is tiring for the eye and films don't look "filmish" anymore.

For anyone who wants the 2001 edition either for the restoration or because of any bonus features that might not get carried over, don't give up hope - I see the 2001 from time to time in used retailers like FYE. In my experience, the likelyhood of finding it is likely to increase as the relase date gets closer and especially right after the release, as some people who buy the new edition sell their old version.

Also, many online vendors like Amazon sell used DVDs. I don't have experience buying used online, but I probably will soon as I attempt to fill in some gaps in my OOP Treasures collection (which rarely show up at FYE). As for things I've bought used at FYE and other physical stores, I've always been allowed to have the clerk open the DVD or CD so I can check for scratches, make sure the booklet is inside the case, etc.

Really? I think sleeping beauty and pinocchio look amazing. I don't think they look digital or unnatural at all. They remain film-like to me...

There's a difference between acceptance and not repeating the same thing to the point that no one even cares.

Well, that's because some of the studios assume that those willing to shell out the money for a gift set actually have been able to afford a blu-ray player whether they have HD or not, and that they'd be big enough film buffs to future-proof their home theater or tv.

Besides, it's more advisable to wait until the set starts being sold used for the price it's actually worth: $75.

The gift sets have always seemed to be more of a device to get big fans of the film to jump to a new format. If you think about it, Disney rarely did big gift sets for VHS, but in the 90's many Disney classics got gift sets on laserdisc, including Snow White. Then when DVD came out some Platinum Editions got gift sets, but only with the DVD, not the VHS which was still being released. And now that Blu-Ray is out, we are seeing Disney do gift sets and special bundles, but only with the Blu-Ray. It's the same thing. I personally made the switch to Blu-Ray last year the day Sleeping Beauty came out and have already pre-ordered the gift set.

Yep...the first movie I got after my Blu Ray player was "Sleeping Beauty".

Actually it's one of those strange cycles. Back when I first got into DVD, "Snow White" Platinum was one of the very first titles I ever bought; and now in 2009 it's coming to Blu, the same year that I'm getting into the whole BD scene.
