For those of you that haven't been able to catch the performance (this one was recorded by an audience member, it won't actually air until Monday, I think):

a) It aired this past Monday (was filmed this past Sunday).
b) Disney basically had nothing to do with the performance (it aired on Fox).
c) She sang "Party in the USA" ("Ice Cream Freeze" is a Hannah song).
d) Thanks for posting that video, enigmawing- I recorded the show but still have only watched the last 20 minutes.
e) Like what enigmawing said above- there really was nothing hoochie about Miley's performance- all the pictures are just of that second of Miley dipping.

f) Miley doesn't lipsynch live.

She did use the pole to land in that specific position. She was dressed provocatively. And she was surrounded by at least two other girls dressed similarily. You can bet there was a choreographer behind all this and it was carefully planned.

Maybe I'm biased, but since it isn't lacey and is less revealing than a bathing suit, I don't find the clothes provacative. I also don't think the target audience will be able to see anything sexual about the way she danced; it's the less innocent that will make the stripper pole comparisons.

But once again, maybe I'm biased, even if I'm not so innocent.

My first post since coming home-

I must say, I haven't seen anything "bad" about any of the footage I've seen. Even more surprising, I actually like "Party in the USA" (which shouldn't be possible since I listened to it non-stop during a 12-hour trip). This controversy just feels like an excuse to report on something other than town hall meetings.

Well, I don't think that's the issue. It's the intention behind it. I see this as a clear way to prepare Miley for her shift from 'tween star' to an 'adult' actress. You know, the way Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan have shed of their 'innocent images'. It's getting tiring to hear all the tween stars saying they want to do nude scenes or do kinky dances or dress provocatively because they want to be 'taken seriously'. (Emma Watson being the most recent I've read about.) Well, what about keeping your clothes on if you want to be taken seriously? Who teaches them that they have to be like this to look mature? ... Oh wait, WE do!

I figured this was the most appropriate thread to add this in . . .

As I was browsing Wal-mart the other day, I noticed a shirt in the girls' clothing section that felt out of place. And when I say girls' clothing section, I'm talking about grade school girls. And upon further inspection, I realized it was part of the Miley Cyrus line.

Really, I know it's just a print on a shirt, but does this really feel appropriate for little girls to wear? Is it something you'd buy for your eight or ten-year-old daughter?

There are a lot of sick people out there... And this shirt sends the wrong message...

Disclaimer: this doesn't mean I think a girl/woman *ever* is to blame for whatever sexual abuse she has to suffer. I'm just saying it's not appropriate.

Well, it's a boustier (sp?) printed on a shirt for tween and teen girls. A boustier is a piece of lingerie...so printing undergarments on a t-shirt for kids...is a bit wrong.

I still like Miley, and she's not the only one working making her clothing line, so it's not all her fault. Definitely poor judgment on the part of someone. The real question is, will parents by it for their kids?

To be fair, I did glance through the other clothes they had under the Miley line at Wal-mart, and I'd say most of it is stylish, cute, and more than appropriate.

I'm no prude by any means, but there's definitely something wrong with this particular shirt. Printing undergarments on a shirt, in a design that attempts to accentuate the breasts? That doesn't belong on a shirt intended to be worn by preteen/prepubescent girls. I'm not blaming Miley either, but I agree it sends the wrong message and that somebody definitely made a poor judgment call here.

Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore are circling the English-language remake of Gallic smash "L.O.L.: Laughing Out Loud."
Mandate Intl. is handling international sales on the project, which original helmer Lisa Azuelos is set to write and direct. Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films are producers. Romain Le Grand and Nathan Kahane are exec producers.

Pic tells the story of a 15-year-old girl who, dumped by her more sexually experienced boyfriend, sets her sights on his best friend. At the same time, her 40-year-old divorcee mother is struggling to move on with her life. The fraught relationship between mother and daughter provides the film with its narrative backbone, along with the younger generation's obsession with instant messaging.

French version, released last year by Gallic mini-major Pathe, was a sizeable hit, grossing more than $20 million.

In that version Sophie Marceau and Christa Theret starred as the bickering mother and daughter.

CAA packaged the project, set up the financing and is handling North American rights.

I have a very weird love-hate cycle with Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus. When the show came out, I was deadset on hating it and I think I suceeded for about a month before I caved and watched the episode when Oliver had a girlfriend and was trying to hide it (haven't watched the episode in forever, forgive me if I've butchered the premise LOL). So, I feel in love with the show right around the time I gave in and watched High School Musical (easily my favorite DC franchise for the past few years, though Wizards and Sonny are starting to overpower it).

I really loved the show in the beginning because it was funny and Miley was still cute and I was actually still in love with Disney Channel. I bought the CDs and sang along with the songs and my friends thought I was crazy.

Jake Ryan was probably my favorite character and I hated it that he wasn't a regular. He's so cocky and annoying, but I love it. And his relationship with Miley/Hannah is just so hilarious and could be the best part of the show if Disney would just pay attention to him for once! Geez.

I think my least favorite characters are Rico and Oliver. Rico keeps pissing me off because of the way he treats Jackson and Robbie Ray (both of whom are great and hilarious) and Oliver lost his magic with me a long time ago. Though, I did love the little songs Rico and Jackson sang during the He Could Be the One episode.

Lilly is the best because she's developed so nicely despite the stupid plots with Miley being so self-centered. And Emily Osment is so beautiful compared to Miley and her extensions and mouse face. But Emily should avoid the singing because she's about as bad as Miley.

Regarding Miley's Wal-Mart line, I actually really liked the clothes the two times I went and saw the stuff and I wish I could have bought a dress that was part of the new editions. I really do commend her for putting her stuff in a place where lots of girls are shopping at thanks to the recession and that the prices are truly affordable compared to Abbey Dawn and Candie's, for example.

My final point to make is that I despise the short blonde wig. It makes Miley look even uglier and the promo images are so badly touched up compared to the ones from when she still had the longer wig. And the costumes are even more ridiculous now whereas the old stuff seemed actually marketable.

I guess I'm just happy the show's coming to an end officially and that Wizards and Sonny seem to be the two shows DC's focusing on. Sonny With a Chance is amazing and it gives me the air of the love-then-like-then-hate-then-love relationship Miley and Jake had with Sonny and Chad and Chad is just so awesome.
