Ok so a girl at work was obsessing about Twilight for MONTHS before the friggin movie came out so when it did I watched it online t see what all the fuss was about. I am extremely glad I did not pay to see that movie. It didn't feel like it was shot for the "big screen" - I felt like I was watching an extra long WB special. Seriously it had all the poor direction and silly tween emotions of one something like Dawson's Creek.

Although as POORLY as I feel it was directed I think the story itself has potential. It also stars two people who've given commendable performances in other movies and I'm sure that with proper direction this series can improve. I mean really - you hired the chick who directed TANK GIRL? Come on. Apparently they were working with a fairly low budget anyway - and well... it shows. Now that there's a new director attached for the sequel New Moon - I think I'll check it out online when they release it.

Overall: not off to a great start - but there's hope.

Well, considering the books weren't that great to begin with, what could you expect? My older sister is a college major and she got so bored with the third and fourth book that she actually stopped because it was written so poorly. I gave up myself. I was so bored with really all of them that when I got to the third part of the last book I completely decided to read something else. The first one wasn't so terrible, but the last three were so boring, I don't even know where to begin. She wrote like she was writing to a 5th grader and the "big surprises" could be spotted ten chapters before they actually happened. I saw Bella getting pregnant, then having the baby and then getting a house miles before it actually happened. I guess, for all the hype, there kind of isn't any point to it. I'll just give my advice: stick to something that's much better written and has a great plot (ex: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, A Wrinkle In Time Quintet, etc.)

I've never read the books but in all honesty regardless of how bad a book or story may be in essence - taking the base line ideas and reinventing them is what Hollywood's all about. There have been plenty of great movies that were based on fairly weak source material. Sleepy Hollow wasn't that great a book. I've loved the story itself but the actual writing (my apologies to Irving fans) wasn't that dynamic. And yet Tim Burton and crew came out with a bang up awesome flick. Or look at Sweeney Todd (the musical, not necessarily the movie - although I enjoyed that as well). The original Penny Dreadfulls the story was taken from were pretty bland, but with some plot twists and motivation - you end up winning the Tony for best new musical! Or Rebel Without a Cause - great movie! Original idea came from then current newspaper headlines and yet a great story and script were built around those ideas. Or the Count of Monte Cristo. Not that I'm saying the book was bad - it was excellent, but the movie was vastly different from the book. And yet that was another awesome movie - again due to good story crafting. I think that with a good script and better directing - this could be an interesting series. But I guess we'll have to wait and see what the next installment brings before we know if it's at all salvageable.

Yea, i really wish their backgrounds were given in the first book. I didnt hate the movie, but the books were a long read................and i even gave up a few times. I am hoping that since twilight made a crapload of money, they SE for NM will be 1000x better.

I wouldnt read the books again though, because i kept getting mad at Stephanie and her characters.

Has anyone seen Taylor, the guy who plays Jacob? He bulked up for the new movie and is looking pretty hot. lol my boyfriend gets mad at me when i comment on him.....

You've got to be kidding me. Twilight a long read? Hardly. At least not compared to great books like the Wheel of Time or Lord of the Rings to name three very well written and long series.

Lord of the Rings was massive. Wheel of Time? 11 Books in the series and the final book coming is well around the 900k word count from what I last heard. THAT is long.

Of course, I'm talking from my point of view. I could finish Twilight in a day if I decided to actually read it. But I won't, I skimmed the first chapter and it looked awful.

Maybe if you had all the time in the world, but lots of us have other things going on, all day, every day. Yes, they are huge books, although judging from the only one I've read, they are easy, fast reads. But I wouln't go around saying they aren't long.

Yes it was a long read. I am a full time college student and I also work full time now..so for me to actually find the time to sit down and read (any book for that matter) takes me a while to finish. I do have a life. I would be able to finish the book in a day too, if i didn't work or go to college.

Lord of the Rings took me a long time to finish and I have never even heard of Wheel of time.

Naturally, this is my point of view.

I have busy days and I finished three out of the four books all in one night. I think the time frame was around 10:30 PM to 4 AM, if I remember correctly. Months later, I finished the fourth book in one day as I was waiting around in a medical center while Jeopardy! was blasting out from all the televisions there.

You seem to assume I don't have things going on every day? I don't have all the time in world, I am fairly busy. Perhaps it helps that I don't have a full time job, but regardless despite being busy I would still be able to read it in a day.

I still say they aren't as long compared to the other series I have mentioned. Book 11 of Wheel of Time has a prologue that is about 95 pages long, compare that to Twilight.

The longest book in that series is roughly 980 pages, top to bottom print. When I skimmed through Twilight I saw some pages that end less than halfway down the page, or halway down in some cases. The book may look long but take out any of that empty space and it would be a significantly shorter.

Also directed to daydreamer as well, I never once said anything about having or not having lives. I do realize that everyone has a life and that does go into account in terms of reading. However. I simply stated that compared to other series Twilight isn't that long of a read, nor is it really that difficult as well compared to other series.

So instead I gave her a DVD of Murnau's 1922 masterpiece Nosferatu and told her, 'Now that's a vampire film!' And that goes for all of you! Watch Nosferatu instead!"

I have been reading more opinions about "Edward: The Abusive Boyfriend". I never understood how girls like his character. He's far too emo and depressing for me. And why does he fall in love with Bella? Because of the fact he can't hear her thoughts and she smells so good, he wants to kill her. He stalks Bella. Then he leaves her, knowing how much it would hurt her.
At least Jacob is safer and far more caring. Even when Jacob wolf's out, he still has a human mind. Edward can barely control himself and its only because Carlisle being there he is able to stop himself from sucking her dry. With Jacob, Bella smiles, has fun.

That's why I felt New Moon was a stronger book. A lot less, "I love you, I love you more, no I love you more, stalk me please". We actually see who Bella is. She has a personality. Still a really crappy personality, but one all the same.
