Around the World in 80 Days (2004)

Post by goofystitch »

I attended the sneak preview of "Miracle" on Saturday and there was a preview for "Around The World In 80 Days" attached to it. I had heard of it, but didn't know anything about it. It is an adventure/comedy which looks like it's trying to be the next "Pirates of the Caribbean"-like movie. Jackie Chan is the only person I recognized in the trailor, but I'm sure there are other famous people in it. I've never read the book so I know nothing about the story line. Disney dosen't have a web page up yet, so does abybody know any more about it?

I loved the 1956 edition of this movie so much that I am a little worried to how Disney will do this.

The old one had cameo roles that can never be beaten again, just look here: Frank Sinatra, Buster Keaton, Cesar Romero, Red Skelton, Marlene Dietrich and Peter Lorre (to name a few).

I can see that Disney are trying the same, but would you think that this is the same lineup: Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Cleese and Rob Schneider?

This movie will have its premiere June 16th, so I guess we will know then.

There is a possibility that it might be good but it will indeed never live up to the original.

The 1956 movie was not the original, there was two others before that.

But I know what you mean, and I agree with you on it. :)

If you read the post about "Home on the Range" reactions, a couple people have been talking about it. Here is the link: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... c&start=20

You should really go see movies in theaters if you want to see the trailor. It debuted with "Miracle" and is now found on "Home on the Range." Go see a movie if you want to see the trailor. And if you don't want to see a Disney movie, call your local theater and ask which movies they are playing with the ATWI80D trailor.

I am not so sure after seeing the trailer.

I did not like the new twist that they made with Fog beeing a crazy inventor, and I also am a little worried about Jackie Chan ruining this.

But maybee I am to worried here. This is atleast one of those movies that I am going to see.

Yep, looks bad. One sentence:

Jackie Chan holding the socks of some guy falling out a window.

I will not be sitting through this.

I don't think it's worth shelling out $8 to see a movie only to see the trailer when you can watch it online for free. You should pay the $ for the movie itself, and the trailers are an added bonus- but a lot of people accidentally show up at the theater late or get stuck in long concession lines against their will and miss them. He just wants a link!!

Also, if he hasn't seen the trailer, there's a good chance he hasn't seen HOTR, and therefore wouldn't be reading the HOTR Reactions thread b/c of spoilers (like me!). :)

It looked interesting but I think that the original will be the better one.

Well, this new version of Around the World... is to the original story (and film) what the new Charlie's Angels movies were to the original TV series - loosely based on and played for laughs. So really a comparison isn't really fair.

I think it looks quite good. It's interesting to see how it's flip-flopped from one Disney branch to another. I guess the success of Holes was the reason for the final "Disney" labeling.

Oh, and did you know the original book of Around the World doesn't have a hot air baloon in it? It was added for the film. And yet, the story is most associated with the baloon trip nowadays.

I thought that it was always going to be Disney released, I didn't know that if had flipped. Since it's made by Walden, I thought for sure it'd be with Disney. Thanks for all the info 2099! I love the original, and hopefully I'll see the trailer when I watch Disney, er, Miramax's Ella Enchanted on Friday!

I might but I don't think so I think that it will be a poor remake. And the original is quite good.

No I'll wait for the dvd. Besides I still need to see Troy, Shrek 2, Harry Potter, Day After Tomorrow, plus the Terminal and Dodgeball open that weekend.
