I first learned about Light Magic in one of my Disney books (I think Disney the First 100 years) and it had one picture from this "parade." It was of Mickey Mouse in pajamas with some weird fairy creature thing shaking a kid's hand. I didn't really understand the concept and read how it really bombed when it was supposed to be a spectacular entertainment event to take over the Main Street Electrical Parade (which let Disneyland to go to WDW).
(You can read more about the show in Yesterland at http://www.yesterland.com/lightmagic.html and in an article from MousePlanet.com written on the show's 10th anniversary http://www.mouseplanet.com/7292/Light_M ... ears_Later)
Anyhow, while watching old Disneyland commercials on YouTube, I came across a very well filmed recording of Light Magic from some sort of local television station:

I must say, after watching the "parade," I can understand why it brought on such negative responses since it was a rather odd new concept for a parade, but the design of the floats and the characters (the fairies, not the pajama wearing Disney characters...White Rabbit looked like he escaped from jail) were quite whimsical and stunning, especially when compared to the simple designs of its predecessor. My biggest surprise with the show was how AWESOME the soundtrack was! Though it was short, the celtic-riverdance-y medley of Disney songs was incredible. I really enjoy Disney medlies AND Disney "covers" and musical arrangements, so I enjoyed Light Magic's music quite a lot. I did some searching and the main theme to the show was actually released on CD several years ago on "The Official Album of Disneyland/Walt Disney World." http://www.amazon.com/Official-Album-Di ... B000001M3X
Does anyone have this album? If you do, would anyone be willing to trade mp3's for the Light Magic track? I would REALLY LOVE YOU FOREVER if you do!

Sorry, Kram. The only version I have is on cassette tape somewhere on an official album from back in the day. I was lucky enough to see Light Magic in '97 and loved it. Of course, that was long before I learned how to be critical of anything Disney! Oh to be 14 again!

I have source-quality audio from that parade. It's not "official source", but you would never know the difference. it features the entire parade/show and the theme. I have to go look for it, but I'd be more that happy to PM it to you if you're still interested!!!Kram Nebuer wrote:I first learned about Light Magic in one of my Disney books (I think Disney the First 100 years) and it had one picture from this "parade." No worries, pinkrenata! Thank you for trying though! And yeah, I totally agree. 14-year-old-me would've loved it, too! Then again current me loves it, haha, well mostly the music, haha.pinkrenata wrote:Sorry, Kram. The only version I have is on cassette tape somewhere on an official album from back in the day. Disney Villain, OMG yes I totally would love it!!!! I'm going to PM you right now!! But no rush or anything if you're busy. I don't know how soon I'll be able to get to a computer again since we're actually still away on vacation at (believe or not) Anaheim, CA. =)Disney Villain wrote:I have source-quality audio from that parade. In David Koenig's Mouse Tales, he said that naysayers to the parade called it "Lite Magic" and "Light Tragic". After watching a little snippet of the youtube video...I can see why now.
