So... the other night, for the first time in my life, I was offensively called "faggot".
It was like 1 AM and my boyfriend and I were walking across the parking lot to get to his apartment and we were holding hands when out of nowhere we hear "Faggots!". It was coming from some guys across the lot who had seen us from their balcony who didn't have the balls to come say it to our faces. Of course, we didn't give a shit and kept on holding hands.
It was just weird for me. I guess I've always been lucky and have never had to deal with that sort of thing. Though afterward it did make me sad/annoyed cause we had been at the mall earlier that day and I was thinking of all the straight couples holding hands and kissing and no one says anything to them, yet here are two guys doing the exact same thing and they get harassed about it. Good times, eh?
Oh well. Like I said, we didn't care what those morons had to say and it sure as hell didn't ruin our night, but just kinda wanted to post about it.

Well that's how society is dude...you gotta get use to it I guess, as if you didn't know that you were going to draw attention/snarky comments by holding hands in public. So while I don't agree with the comments said, or feel that you should act any differently in public just don't be suprised.
Anyway I'm glad you had fun at your pride parade, my gay friends were like michael come it's fun I was like nah I draw the line there my dudes lol.

But if people just "got used to it" because that's how "society is", then society would never improve into something better and more tolerant.CampbellzSoup wrote:Well that's how society is dude...you gotta get use to it I guess

I'd disagree. It's in all nature to fear what you don't understand. A deer is afraid of you, therefor it runs away. A lot people are afraqid of the dark, or the future, because they reprisent something that is unknown. And a lot of people don't understand what it's like to be a gay, muslim, nudist, etc. and that makes them unable to tolerate the very idea that someone might be of a different religion, sexuality, or lifestyle, even to the point where it's unreasonable to oppose such things.David S. wrote:But if people just "got used to it" because that's how "society is", then society would never improve into something better and more tolerant.CampbellzSoup wrote:Well that's how society is dude...you gotta get use to it I guess
Edit: OOPS, I somehow missed the post that plinky made and misread yours. Doesn't make it any less relevant, though.

The Gay Thread
lord-of-sith, saw the Rent video. It was good, really nice way to do it. Nice singing. Are you having some other couples tango in Tango Maureen ala the film? And show Maureen during it? And boy was that guy playing Angel such a cutie. Who was that?
Sorry that happened to you Chris! But you never got called it until now, how strange, though I guess they would only know you were gay once you were publicly holding hands with a guy.
So the some weeks ago on Dr. Phil, that conservative southern actually had a show with 3 people on each side of the gay marriage issue, 6 people in all, and said he wanted to find ‘common ground”. The only thing common seemed to be when a woman was asked how a gay marriage effected her own, and she couldn’t come up with anything to say (from the brief clip of it I saw, maybe she said something later).
So Dr. Phil, apparently, seemingly, actually did something good for this issue.
But anyway, one woman “expert” against gay marriage said, “Why treat not treat things that are different differently?”
Now, I don’t know if someone on the show came up with a good argument against that, but I did. The reason is because you could say that about race, why not treat different races differently? Basically, race, and man or woman parts, are just on the outside. It’s about the inside, or souls and our love (even though I know I could never feel my love for a woman with woman parts). The love is the same.
Some guy said it wasn’t about love, it was about the children. Wow. So an answer to that is what about a family that hates each other but stays together for the children, making the children miserable? Or those who marry and can’t have kids, because gay couples could, you know, just not have kids.
That same guy also said the church would have to perform gay marriages by law, because if you allow them not to perform gay marriages, why not allow them to not perform interracial marriages? Well, the easy answer to that is two answers. One, race doesn’t have to do with the church’s beliefs, and two, their would still be a separation of church and state, Separation of church and state. Meaning the church can do whatever it wants, aside from big stuff like murder and stealing, etc.
Anyway, I wish I was on that show to answer some of those questions, but also say, what if there was just legal gay marriage, not holy gay marriage.
Because I understand how people might think holy marriage should just be for a man and woman. So why not say, all gay couples can marry legally, and then whatever religions choose to accept gay marriage do their holy marriages, but not others. In other words, Catholics could still have their holy marriages between men and women and choose not to acknowledge the marriages of gay couples, accept legally I guess.
The only other option I could see is gays fighting and fighting so hard and so much for so long they force everyone to accept their marriages, and I actually think that is wrong. No one should be forced to believe anything!
But it's okay if they see for themselves gay love is the same and should be accepted, even forced to see it, but not forced to believe something.
Other than that, people will have to turn on their own. We may see a world where gays get married in some churches, but not others. That's most likely.

Yeah, there are four couples dancing in "The Tango Maureen" (you can see them briefly in the video) but we opted not to show Maureen then, as to save her grand entrance in "Christmas Bells."Disney Duster wrote:lord-of-sith, saw the Rent video. It's sad, just sad that others can act like this and spew such bigoted hatred against others simply for the desire of loving who they want.
I always try to have faith in humanity, but examples like this just give me less and less hope. I often start to feel now like I should belong on another planet.

I forgot to post this in the original thread, but this is what my"best friend" said about gay people.
I tell you the truth, God created all of this world and everyone in it. I know that life is hard and full of people who are hypocritical. I know ALL people sin. I know that ALL people will one day have to stand before The One and True Almighty God. He will judge them for their sins and their life according to what they have done, and weather they have reserved him or not.
I am not God, I am a sinner, I have received his love. The fact is that it is impossible to get into heaven with sin in your heart. God will take away ALL that hurt and pain.
The thing is that sin is sin and the bible is clear. You cannot live a
homosexual life and not be in Sin. Living a homosexual life is Sin. The thoughts you have that may be gay or strait or perverted or sinful, lustful. They are not sin unless you dwell on them or act on them. It is hard to change from something so tough. The thing is it is fine to have the "gay temptation", but not ok to act on them. When you act on them or dwell on them then they become sin. For that matter, ANY temptation is not sin it is when you ACT on that temptation. I am not God, I cannot tell you weather anyone is really born heterosexual, or homosexual, but I do know that ether way God, God made us. I completely believe that you can be deceived to believe that you were born gay and will struggle with those thoughts through your whole life, but again it is about temptation. You can live with those temptations your whole life and say "no" to them and be received by God. God wants to give us his love FREELY, why do we ignore it?
I don't believe one word in this rant he wrote and I am extremely offended by it, and yeah he's a hypocritical Christian.

This is what I hate. I'm straight, I'm Catholic, and I'm a republi....(well we won't go there =/). Almost all my life I've attended Catholic School, and gone to church on Sundays. Despite all this, certain Christian views really disgust me. All my life I've been taught that God is loving and caring and as a Christian it is my duty to be a friend and neighbor to everyone- to accept everyone. It absolutely boils my core when i hear the church go off on their anti-gay crusades. The Church needs to wake up and realize that discriminating against people is not what God wants.kenai3000 wrote:I forgot to post this in the original thread, but this is what my"best friend" said about gay people.

The Gay Thread
kenai if you signature is "Gay is not a sin" I think it's fine, if that's what you believe.
I would say to your friend that no, the Bible is not clear. Maybe even ask him to explain everything the Bible means (maybe you could find something rather hard to understand and ask him what it clearly means).
I mean, "thous shalt not lay with a man as you do with a women". When anyone was little, did we really know what that meant? And how come they say it means to lay with them sexually, when after all, the Bible also says you can't do certain things like mix certain cloth together, how are we supposed to even know it means sex and not lying down, or that it doesn't just mean when we lay with a man we just have to do a different position? And since I'm gay and have never slept with a women, what if it just means I should choose to lay with only men or women, sinc ei can't lay with one like the other?
Also, why don't you remind your friend the Bible says even thoughts are sinful! Even the straight ones. Lusting after another women is already adultery and all that.
Anyway, notice that this guy isn't being a gay hater, he's just saying you may not really be gay, and if you are, don't act on it. He's not going to gay people and saying "God hates you!" He's saying "You shouldn't be gay" as he might say "You shouldn't lie". If you think saying "You shouldn't lie" is discrimination...um, ok.
As I keep saying, sometimes I do wonder if the Bible is clear, and maybe I shouldn't be gay, but I don't know why I would want to stop being happy for a God that won't let me be me, and would hate me if I did so. The Bible has been changed over time, things have been added to it, how do I know it's all God's word, all him? Of course his word is in there, but how do I know all of it is him, and some of it isn't the work of men? Or it's a mis-translation? Well, I have to believe and feel. And I believe, and I feel, God wants me to be happy, and I would be rather sad being without some guy who loves me.
On another note, I wanted to say I hate it when you tell someone you're gay and they say they don't care.
It's like they are ignoring a part of you. It's like it's a bad thing, so they ignore it, like if they were to ignore you went to prison or something. But gay is a positive thing for those who accept they are gay, and not something to be ignored. A friend should care about all the things about you.
Well, I dunno. I just felt that and wanted to say that.

It depends on how it's said and why. Sometimes, people just mean it as "your sexuality has nothing to do with why I'm friends with you." But if they mean it like "Well, I like you anyway," then I could understand the anger. On another note, I wanted to say I hate it when you tell someone you're gay and they say they don't care.

The Gay Thread
Sorry I took that from you!
I do wanna say that currently the voting for gay rights ain't bad, but the best thing would be the government to make gay marriage legal no matter what. On that Dr. Phil show, they were talking about how the government would decide it, like they decided other things, and I think interracial marriage was one of them. Of course, even within the government it still counts on voting!
I must admit, if I thought gay was a sin and holy marriage should only be between a man and a woman, I would think God wanted me to vote aginst it to keep marriage sacred. But if it's only legal marriage and not church marriage, I don't see how it's destroying the sacredness! That's what I want to explain to people, churches wouldn't be forced to do the marriages, it would just be legal marriages, not holy ones.
And what you said about the whole "I don't care thing", thanks. The way you explained it was really good and I think you're right, even though I wish they would say something like "that's fine with me" instead.

The problem with the Bible is that it contradicts itself way too much. It tells us that God is good and very wise, yet there's a sentence that says "My God is a jealous God". Isn't envy one of the seven "deadly" sins?
Being Gay isn't a choice, just like being autistic isn't just something you do for an hour a day.
