The Best New Shows At Risk Of Cancellation! Please Read!!!

Post by goofystitch »

I am writing this post to inform you that the two best new shows this year are probably going to be cancelled. Both shows have earned critical acclaim, but viewership is low. The two shows I am talking about are "Arrested Development" and "Wonderfalls." If you have never seen an episode, please do. If you like it, encourage friends to watch them as well, especially if they have a Neilsen Box!!! Below is a little bit of information about each show:

Arrested Development is the Fox sitcom produced and narrated by Ron Howard. The Bluth family have been embezzeling from their own business, so when the father is arrested, the company falls into the hands of the only trustworthy member, Michael, who is also trying to keep this dysfunctional family together. The show is filmed in a very unique way and the characters are so entertaining, that your not really watching to see what happens to them, but how they react. The narrations by Ron Howward give it an extra boost. For example, in one episode, Michael's sister Lesley calls him "Opie," to which the narrator suddenly adds in, "Lesley had gone too far!" "Arrested Development" airs Sunday on Fox at 8:30/9:30.

Wonderfalls is a dramedy, allthough there is more comedy than drama. This is the show to watch if you are into creative storytelling. Jaye is a very negative store clerk at a Niagra Falls gift shop. Definatley not the person that God would want to do his work for him, but for some reason he is using her to help people. When inanimate objects tell Jaye to do things, it sets off a chain reaction that eventually ends up going in a full circle to help Jaye. Critics love the show, but audiences aren't being drawn to it in large numbers. It usually airs on Fridays at 8:00/9:00, but this week, it is airing on Thursday, April 1st, to see if ratings are better on that night. Please check it out. Fox obviousley has a lot of faith in it.

Again if you have never seen any episodes of either of these shows, please watch at least one. If you like it, spread the word. This is the only forum I visit, but I know alot of you visit more, so if you like the shows, put up posts in other forums to spread the word. TV these days seems to be getting worse and worse, and with the loss of "Friends" and "Frasier," we are going to need some good shows to watch.

You left out Neither in the poll (which would be my vote).

The only thing Fox has done right since The Tick was American Idol.

buffalobill,
If you don't like the shows, simply don't vote in the poll.
These shows mean a lot to me so I hope all of your negative opinions were formed by watching a whole episode of both. If critics love these shows so much, than they are probably good and worthy of at least one viewing before you take someone elses opinion. Shows like these don't come around often, so when 1 (or in this case 2) come along, you have to try really hard to get them to stay. Remember that "Seinfeld" and "The Simpsons" weren't as good in their 1st season as they became, nor did they have huge ratings at first. Just enough to get another season out of them and look at what happened. Both of these shows end up giving lessons about family, and I think people would like them if they opened up and gave them a chance.

A new episode of "Wonderfalls" is on FOX tonight at 8:00/9:00. Please watch it if you have never seen an episode. And if you have tivo, please record it because that also encourages companies to keep shows running. This show is really important to a lot of people. It would be a shame if it got cancelled and nobody even knew what they had missed out on.

There is a brand new episode of "Arrested Development" on tonight at 8:30/9:30 P.M. on FOX. There are only 4 episodes left in the season and it is looking pretty unlikely thay the series will be picked up for another season. Tonights episode is called "Best Man For The Gob" and the plot is that George Sr. (the father and arrested embezzeler) attempts to set up a situation to blackmail his accountant (Henry Winkler) at his son Gob's bachelor Party (he married Amy Pohler from SNL.) I know the plot's of this series are farfetched and don't sound that interesting on paper, but see how this sounds written:
An episode of "Seinfeld" where the gang waits a long time for a table at a Chineese restaurant.

An epidode of "Friends" where the gang is caught in a blackout with a strange Italian man.

An episode of "The Simpsons" where Mr. Burns is shot by a baby.

You should give "Arrested Development" a chance because it is so creative and allthough the plot sounds weird and crazy, you have to see the characters and how they react in these kinds of situations. If you had never seen "Seinfeld" before, would you have watched an episode labeled on your guide as "group waits for table at oriental restaurant?" I wouldn't have.

It is official. "Wonderfalls" is cancelled. Producer Tim Miner (of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" fame) said that he is going to attempt to get the whole series played on another network, most likely a cable channel, and is also begging Fox to give it a DVD treatment. I hope he uses the live action "The Tick" as an example at his pitch. "The Tick" had a similar run to "Wonderfalls." Less than half of it's episodes where aired when Fox decided that the Neilsen ratings werent high enough. What they didn't realize was that the live action version had a huge fan base, just not many with a Neilsen Box. "The Tick" was produced by Sony and after being flooded with leters to get a DVD release, they agreed to it and where surprised to find that it sold extremely well. I hope Fox realizes this and releases "Wonderfalls." Anyway, I know that not many people here are fans, but if you are, there is a petition you can sign (http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/wonderfalls)
and you can vote for it on http://www.tvshowsondvd.com

Arrested Development is awesome. I sure hope they keep it going. It takes and episode or two to get into it and understand the style and humor. I missed the marathon they did on FX a couple weeks ago. It would have been nice to catch the shows I've missed. I definitely recommend the show to everyone.

This is a reminder that there is a new episode of "Arrested Development" on Fox tonight after 90 minutes of Simpsons reruns. It airs at 8:30/9:30. I hope it does well against NBC's "Homeland Security." And I really don't know what to think about ABC's "Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey Variety Hour." Tonights episode is called "Whistler's Mother" and here is a synopsis from tvtome.com:
When some money is unfrozen by the SEC, Michael(Jason Bateman) must face everyone in his family asking for a share of it. Meanwhile, Michael chastises Lucille(Jessica Walter) for being too coddling with Buster(Tony Hale). Gob(Will Arnett) and Tobias(David Cross) are trying to come up with a legitimate investment opportunity for the company. Also, Lindsay(Portia de Rossi) decides to protest the war to boost her self esteem and ends up in a cage dancing in a wet t-shirt.
The best part of "Arrested Development" is watching the characters get themselves into tough situations, and then try and get out of them. As you may know, the Bluths are an extremely disfunctional family trying to cope their way through tough times. This show takes some getting used to, so try to watch a few episodes. Paul Feig, creator of "Freaks & Geeks" has directed two episodes of it, and he had this to say about the show in an interview:
I didn't have a desire to direct television, but that show's so funny. It's exactly what television should be, which is a great cast of really talented, great actors. And the writing's really heads-up. And then the way they shoot it is really cool — it's different, it's not like a sitcom.

On http://www.tvshowsondvd.com, "Wonderfalls" position is 0. That means it is the most requested show on DVD. This is so exciting. I hope Fox sees this and not only releases it on DVD, but brings it back like they are doing with "Family Guy."

Yes, FOX save the great shows!!!
Also FOX made some big changes in their schudule.
I guess FOX wants to keep the better shows so they could get better ratings.

My suggestion at this point is to give up on television. Any shows that you actually get into and like, they will cancel before they are over or will end poorly. I'm getting a bit sick of that sort of thing, aren't you?

I didn't watch Wonderfalls, but I'm told that they mentioned Amy Grant on an episode, so I was rooting for it :P.

Arrested Development... I saw it once or twice and thought it was funny, but not funny enough for me to keep watching.

Sadly, the best new show of the year, which starred the best actress out there has been cancelled... "Whoopi." :( :( I'm very bummed.

Nice! :D
I am so glad they made the cut. Now all we need to do is to get more people watching it. It is a hilarious show. Hopefully they will run another marathon so people can catch up with it. It runs like a soap with story lines continuing week to week. It takes a couple episodes to get into it (much like "The Onion" which is hilarious as well; www.onion.com) .
Please give this show a watch when it's on again.
