Post by Mickeyfan1990 »

I knew it was only a matter of time:

Universal Home Video has announced DVD ($19.98 ) and Blu-ray ($29.98 ) editions of Army of Darkness for the 19th May. The new "Screwhead Edition" will include commentary with director Sam Raimi, star Bruce Campbell, and co-writer Ivan Raimi, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, additional footage, a Men Behind the Army featurette, and the theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray release will also include additional production photos via its U-Control mode. Stay tuned for the official package artwork.

Good. This is one of my very favorite films, but with the confusion of so many versions out on DVD, I made due with the VHS (the one that included the alternate ending). Now I can skip DVD and go right to Blu-Ray! I still need Evil Dead 2 on disc, but I still want to get the Book of the Dead edition. I have that one of Evil Dead 1.

Not really "new". Just the same content as the Anchor Bay DVDs, but now released by Universal.

Here's hoping they used the better transfer from the R3 Hong Kong DVD.

I never even liked the film much to begin with.

I might upgrade from my bare-bones DVD. I thought Army of Darkness was amusing at parts. I still need to watch the first two Evil Dead films.

Ok, they need to stop. There have been like 143817562871525397 different releases of Army of Darkness and Evil Dead in the past like two years alone. Hopefully this will put an end to it.

I never really cared much for AOD or ED2. The first is the best out of the series, IMO.

What happened to this release? I have been looking since its release date and I cannot find it anywhere. I assume they cancelled it for some stupid reason.

It has probably been delayed. I got a hunch we MIGHT see it in Fall '09.

It would be more appropriate to release it around Halloween.

Blu-Ray.com has news!:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3097

"Universal Studios Home Entertainment has re-announced the Blu-ray release of 'Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition' to September 15th, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Originally announced with a May release date, the title was pulled off retailer lists for unknown reasons. Technical specs have not been changed, with the title coming on a BD-25, with 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Special features for this release include:

Creating the Deadites
Alternate Ending
Theatrical Trailer
U Control - Production Photos
BD Live - Basic Download Center"

Still no word if it will include both cuts.

So. the artwork for the blu-ray is now the same as the old dvd, but with "Spider-Man" and "Drag me to Hell" replacing Darkman on the "From the Director of" banner.
